The initial salary is a no budge, but I can get a raise in three months. But since I'm a moron and can't do math, the salary is considerably lower than I originally thought. Even after the raise it would still be a pay cut from my current position. With the expected $300 a month bonus, only then would I make more.
It also only has 5 vacation days to start, and 10 after three years. There is free parking (a plus, given the location).
I have a couple of follow up questions, but at this point I'm thinking it's a no go. Frankly, I think this is worse than not being offered a job. This place is getting so terrible, and it's a sinking ship. I'm afraid if I don't leave, I'll end up unemployed and won't have the luxury to be choosy anymore.
The funny thing is, I'd heard this is a great place to work, they treat their employees like real people, etc. So to only have five days is pretty shocking.
The good news is there are three other jobs posted that I am interested and potentially qualified for.
Whaaaa? This was a high tech place, right? Does not compute. What a bummer!
It is! Which my marketing mentor used to work in, and she's astonished. We found me a new one though, and it lists 3 weeks vacation in the job description.
I get 10 days right now, and would be getting 15 days in another year and a half. Vacation time is way more important to me than a salary number, especially since H has around 15 days a year and doesn't work Friday's 8 months out of the year. Only have 5 days would be a real problem for us.
Boo. Money is one thing, but quailty of life (vacation and feeling appreciated) is another and they are both important. I hope one of the other jobs works out for you.
yeah when a company gives that little vacation time it really tells me that they don't give a shit about their employees, especially if there is no separate sick bank.
I asked if there was the possibility for unpaid vacation time, and to clarify if the sick time (which he said was PTO) was a separate pool from vacation time.
Negotiate. I always negotiate vacation. I say X days in current year (assuming that I join mid-year) and then X days per year. You don't get what you don't ask for.
Five days is insanity. Is the job in PR? I do PR for an association, and I LOVE it. The benefits are fantastic and the pay is higher than I thought it would be.
That vacation time is shitty. If definitely pass based on that alone.
Another thing Canada has going for it- require a minimum 2 weeks vacation (or equivalent pay). Most professional jobs have 3+ weeks standard. Plus we have loads more stat holidays.
