If I have a girl, I am building her a tower to protect her from the shitty job other parents do raising their sons. And if I have a boy you can bet I will teach him how to be good and respectful. Wtf is wrong with people?!
I know this sounds martyrish, but, when I read things like this I sometimes feel guilty I brought a child into this kind of world. The kind where 5th graders conspire to rape and murder other 5th graders for being "rude" to them.
I am so fucking horrified by everything I read lately. I just can't. I want to lock my girls away and protect them from everything.
This exactly. It is super scary having daughters in this world
I know. But honestly, reading this makes me not want to have boys either! I'm so glad we're done with 2, I don't think I could handle the added stress of sending more kids out into the world.
I know I'm going to sound bat shit crazy but I keep telling my Husband that when we have children, I AM homeschooling them. Why? Because of shit like this. It gets younger and younger and worse and worse.

I have thought the same exact thing. I voluntarily brought these 2 innocent people into a seriously messed up world. I feel like I'm going to need to apologize to them a lot as they grow up. I just truly hope I can raise them "right" and keep them from harm.
I don't even want to think about what is going on in these childrens' lives that taught them these things. One of the boys took a .45 caliber pistol AND ammunition from his brother and made it to school with them. Someone needs to investigate the home lives of these two as well.
Question - can children like this be rehabilitated? I recall an interview with a professor / psychiatrist after the Newton shootings. Essentially, this guy was arguing that we had it right in the 50s when we were willing to (sometimes) permanently institutionalize people. When a kid is this damaged already, does it make sense - for everyone's safety - to essentially write them off?
I can almost unequivocally state that these boys were likely not a product of society, but a product of unspeakable parenting.
Sadly, I don't think we can ever escape being a product of both.
I wish I could just write them off as psychopaths and be done with both culture and home life's role, but they're not. They're being fed hate and ignorance from a lot of different places, I'm sure.

I honestly believe it depends what caused them to do this..is it some kind of social disorder, like attachment disorder, or is it learned behavior? I know there's a difference psychologically between planning and actually carrying out, but I don't think kids that young can commit such a horrific act with no remorse without having some kind of attachment disorder..if that's the case, it takes very extreme rehabilitation and often many years to grow the conscience they would be lacking. And even then, not every case will. If this is merely the product of unspeakable parenting and learned behavior (as sexual abuse in children most often is), then I believe it's possible to turn them around with a different environment and TONS of time and therapy.
