Don't be scared! I swear, the prep was much easier than I was expecting. I went a lot, but I had absolutely no pain or cramping. Which was actually an improvement on a regular day! I wasn't too hungry either. The actual procedure is easy. I was very nervous - my blood pressure was high the whole time. They understood.
As for the results, that was my fear too. Even if you can rule things out, that's a step in the right direction

You can do this and it will be worth it to find out answers to your issues, since they wouldn't recommend someone doing this just for funsies.
The prep was definitely harder for me than the procedure (since they knocked me out) but after what I had already been through before the prep steps, it wasn't truly as bad as I imagined it to be. The hardest part for me was the not eating anything and having to chug all the stuff within the time frame. I found using a straw helped me drink it faster than not using one, and I chose to mix 2 different liquids the 2nd time since I burnt myself out on the same liquid for all the mixture the first time around.
Let us know what else is freaking you out, those of us who have done it were in your same spot and if I hadn't been in so much pain then I would have been tempted to cancel as well. You will be fine, I promise!
I've had four (maybe five?) colonoscopies and lived to tell. The prep kind of sucks, but it's not really worse than not being able to eat anything but plain white rice for months on end without your entire digestive system going haywire.
The procedure itself is the easy part since you will likely be knocked out. I really hope the procedure answers some questions for you. Good luck!
Starting tomorrow, switch to a mostly liquid diet. I never have cramping, never have pain, and never ever have to finish the entire prep because I don't leave too much in my system to flush.
Honestly, with the stuff you deal with daily, this is no big deal. Really. And if they find nothing, it means you can check a few things off the list of possible diagnoses. So still worth the effort!
do not cancel - it is really nothing! I got a little hungry the second day of fasting but I was able to still go to work/school like usual--I wasn't even late. eat light on Wednesday - I think that's what helped me out. each time I took the prep I just stayed near the bathroom for a couple of hours then it was over.
and finding nothing is still telling you something. I just went in for a colonoscopy and it came back clear - that is GREAT news. if you're still on the hunt to finding your problem, ruling out your colon means you're one step closer to answers. you will not get answers if you cancel the appointments you need.

Were they not able to tell you exactly what they are checking for? Sometimes it's to check for inflammation, scar tissue, blockage, fissures/fistula, ulcers, and colon cancer, just to rule out or discover the causes.
I understand being worried (I had my own worries, but I won't even make it worse for you by sharing them) but if you are currently in pain and things aren't normal, then your main concern should be about finding the cause rather than what "could happen" during the prep and procedure.
I'm sure I was grouchy the day I was fasting (I wasn't even allowed breawkfast, I didn't eat for over 30 hours before my procedure) and even made my husband go out for dinner that night so I didn't have to smell his food. He understood, everyone gets a pass for being grouchy when having to deal with things like this. I totally feel you on the concerns, but feel like it was all worth it to at least have a clear diagnosis and see what we were dealing with in my case. This was the procedure that answered my questions and lead my doctor to getting me on the right treatment plan.
You can do it! Remember that even if the results come back normal, at least you've eliminated more options, which means you're on your way to a diagnosis!

I see, and I truly think you will feel relieved after it's all over and all this anxiety will be worth it, at least to see if there is a reason to be concerned. If they end up finding nothing, then you would be one of the lucky ones (I only wish they had found "nothing" during mine!), so don't let that be the reason to stop you from getting a checkup and confirming whether or not you fall in line with that unlucky family history.
Honestly, the anxiety leading up to it and the worry about going through this for the first time was pretty overwhelming for me, too, but in my case it just needed to be done and prolonging or avoiding it wasn't going to help anything. If you are in the same boat, just hang in there and the next couple of days will go by eventually and will be past you before you know it, and hopefully will give some guidance for the reasons you are needing doctor's help in the first place. Let me know if you have any questions or other concerns at all, I'll do what I can to help ease your mind about it.

Good luck, carrots. Hopefully the day goes by quickly and you are able to get some sleep before your procedure in the morning. Hope everything goes as smoothly as possible for you.

I am so sorry you weren't able to get through it.
I also got sick towards the end of the first prep I did, and I was using the miralax mix, but I think it was from how much of the liquid I had to get down and not so much that it tasted bad. I totally know that feeling and was worried about not getting the last 1/3 of the mix down, but I didn't worry about it. I don't think I puked as much as you did, though.
I truly hope the next go round is much smoother, and hopefully you can find an alternative prep that won't make you so suck. Sorry to hear that, carrots.

I'll cross my fingers and send good vibes that you feel better STAT and hopefully figure out what's wrong without having to go through this again so soon... but if you do have to get the scope done, we'll be here if you have any concerns. Definitely ask about the duclolax/miralax option. The second time I did it, I just alternated fluids to mix and it helped me from getting sick (I didn't even drink the last 1/3 of the final mixture and was fine).
Glad you are feeling a little better for the time being.
