I keep having all these people tell me "you never get to eat at your wedding, you're too busy" so I'm in the middle of a standoff with my catering manager about getting some meals left in the room because the fiance is going to need to eat at some point, and I'm worried he won't get to.
So, are people just being histrionic biddies with this "you never eat at your own wedding" business?
I made damn sure I ate at mine. The food was too good to pass up. We did stations and the staff actually served us first while people started to go to the stations. We got to eat a fair amount before getting up and talking w/ people.
Plus, I knew I wanted to have a few drinks, and I was NOT going to do that on an empty stomach!
I ate, but it wasn't what I normally eat. My dress was tight. I was excited. People kept coming up to talk to us. Then before you know it you are being buzzed away to cut the cake or dance or something.

We didn't. We greeted tables instead of a reception line. Some catered will box the food for you if you don't finish your plate. Ours cleared out, next course! Luckily we were on a college campus and grabbed pizza.

Hell yes I ate at mine. Food was our biggest cost and I was going to enjoy the amazing food we paid for! Everyone kept throwing wine at me to, so I was plenty full and drunk.
I ate at mine. We did a buffet and H and I got to go get our food first. So we chowed down while everyone else was on line for theirs. Our wedding planner even went up and got us seconds because H was so hungry lol. My nephew ate my cake though, little turd, so I didn't get to enjoy dessert but I think H did.

I ate at mine. I never really understood that line either. But I think some brides and grooms sit down to eat but then jump up to start making the rounds visiting the guest tables.
I didn't eat much. Between dealing with my MOH, people coming up to me every 2 minutes, and listening to everyone give 30 minute long speeches, I just didn't have a chance really. Which sucked, because the food was apparently delicious. Lol.
We made sure we ate at ours precisely because of the horror stories I had heard, and the HIMYM episode where Lily gets wasted at her wedding. I ate a few appetizers while chatting with cousins who didn't care that I was stuffing my face. We then specifically asked the waitstaff not to clear our dinner plates because we were planning on doing table visits. We never specified an end time and the plates were sitting there at the end of the night. Ooops - better sitting around too long than missing out on prime rib, though!
I chowed down at mine! We ate quickly, and then went around to the tables to talk to people, but I made it a point to eat. I also ate my cake because I don't ever NOT eat cake put in front of me.
You're paying for your food, you should get to enjoy it!
I ate. We set up a special table on the stage (we got married in a theatre) specifically so that it was harder for people to get to us. It helps if you have a cocktail hour and can do table visits then.
One thing that I did that seemed appreciated by the bridal party was arranged to have a fruit tray and meat/cheese tray with water (and beer) arrive during photos. There wasn't a piece left
I drank a lot less than I normally would though. We were too busy visiting to drink much.

H and I ate at ours. A good tip someone told us, only visit the tables who you won't see on the dance floor. Hot those tables first. Everyone else you will chat with and see on the dance floor. That helped cut down on the rounds. We had a good amt of time at those tables and had a fun time with the others on the dance floor. It worked great and we talked with everyone :-)
I ate. I hadn't eaten all day, and our reception didn't start until 7:30pm, I was STARVING. i ate a ton, and didn't care at all. Plus, we had an open bar, and I knew I had to eat if I wanted to drink, which I did.
Unfortunately I didn't get any cake. Someone ate the piece that was in my place at our table

We didn't get top eat and we were starving. It was a holiday wekend and everything was closed. Luckily we have a 5 lb challa bread left over that we could bring to our hotel room.
Definitely plan on getting a meal sent to your room or bring something to eat.
