I've been gone for a few months (was deployed to Afghanistan, again) but now I'm back. I recognize a lot of names, and see some new ones, so figure I'd re-intro..
h! I'm Villain, 32, H is 34. No kids, but we're TTC (miscarried last year, and we are just back to TTC again now that I'm back). We're stationed overseas now (UK) but will be moving back to the states in about a year. I also post on International, GP, and Mil Families.
Hobbies include running, reading, and sarcasm. Huge fan of BBT, HIMYM, and anything on the History Channel. Oh yeah, and Duck Dynasty because Uncle Si makes me laugh.
Holy shit, like my third week there I found a centipede in MY RUNNING SHORTS. I yelled like a girl. Then I took a photo with my iPod and put that shit on Facebook. Then I called pest control. Priorities, yo. O yeah, somewhere in there I googled centipedes and realized that I probably could have died if it had bitten me. Oops.
Edited to add: I was not wearing the shorts at the time, they were in my laundry pile.
I remember your name. Is your H military too? Was he deployed as well? I have no idea how these things work, as I know nobody IRL that is military.
H is a civilian, so he stayed home. A lot of mil women are married to mil men, but there are some of us who have civilian husbands. My H is pretty cool and deals with it really well, so I'm very lucky!
I used to take violin lessons with Jessica Lange and Sam Sheppard's daughter, and they came to all of our recitals. A few years ago I met Don Shula and Bradley Cooper on a USO tour. They were both really really nice.
Thank you for your service and Welcome Back! Is your H with you in the UK now? Where in the UK are you?
Yep, we're both in the UK now, in a tiny little town in Norfolk....basically the middle of nowhere! But we really like it.
I'm glad your H is with you! It's hard to be apart. I had friend stationed in the UK with the Air Force for several years about 10 years ago. He loved it there!

Being apart is definitely the suck. I think the person who stays at home has it a lot harder than most people realize, especially when "home" is a foreign country away from friends and family.

Welcome back!!
The guy that does the "World's Greatest Father" pics - his wife is in the military and is currently deployed. I think she's coming home soon.
Are you in as a career or will you get out soon? If you're retiring, how much time do you have left? If you're not retiring - how much time do you have left?

I haven't seen those pics...been living under a rock :-)
I haven't decided if I will stay in for my whole career or not. I've been in for ten years, and have fulfilled my commitment, but I plan on staying in as long as it works for me and for our family. Who knows what will make sense when we have kids? There aren't really any civilian jobs in my field though, so I would have to think pretty hard and have a solid plan before I would think seriously about getting out. Retirement is ten years away, so I could easily have a second career after I get out.
What made you join the military? And why did you chose AF over the other services?
My grandfather was in the Air Force, and I've always been interested in flying, When I was looking at college I learned about ROTC, and I actually ended up getting a scholarship. If it hadn't been for that, I might not have been able to go to college at all, so it definitely pushed me in the right direction.
