Pictures. I'd grab our external hard drive (lol) in the event of a fire. My grandmothers china that she bought in London in the 60s would be a close second.
Theres nothing else i can think of really. I can think of things that will be my most valuable possession ( my grandmothers engagement ring for example), but my grandparents are all still living so all family heirlooms - jewelry, serving pieces, etc - are still with them or my parents/aunts and uncles.

Ditto! We got a fireproof-safe just because I could never figure out if I should take the external with on vacation to have it with me or leave it behind.
Also the necklace DD made me for Mother's Day. It's a painted clay heart threaded with yarn. I wear it a lot, even fancy places, though I may replace the yarn with something more substantial. Hands down my favorite piece of jewelry.
1908 Baby Grand Steinway Piano. When I was 6 I told my Grandma I wanted to play the Piano so she bought me this. Took her 10 years to pay for it.
This is the sweetest thing I will read today.
I'm actually not sure how to answer. I have so few material possessions that mean that much to me and so I'd probably have to say my external drive because it has all of my kids' photos, contact info for everyone that matters, various documents of import, etc..
Or my iPhone, which basically has become the single most utilized object in the history of my life. Email, phone calls, reading the news, googling everything, this board, etc.. As a SAHM, it's my link to the rest of the (grown-up) world.

My jewelry. When my Mom died I inherited all of her jewelry, which includes my grandmother's as well. Their recipe collections would probably be my second.
Probably a toss up between an antique butler's table that I took from my mom's house or a teddy bear that my brother gave me. Yes, I am 30, and yes, I said teddy bear. But my big brother gave it to me!

My pictures I think, I don't really have much in the way of family heirlooms. My 2nd would be my dog competition ribbons. They represent a lot of hard work and are a sense of pride for me.
Pictures for sure, but other than that, probably the pearl necklace that was my Grandmas. She passed away in Jan and wanted me to have it. I also have her china, but the necklace is just extremely special for some reason.
My blankie. Its in a nightstand next to my bed. I slept with it until H and I moved in together. Sometimes when I'm really upset I still take it out for hugs.
As the oldest great granddaughter, I inherited my great grandma's tea set from when she was a little girl. It's bone china, stunningly gorgeous and it holds many great memories of my great grandma. She was 103 when she died (I was 20), and she was an amazing woman. She didn't get married until she was 30! She was just awesome in so many ways, and one of the coolest ladies I have ever known. We all called her "Mom." I still think about and miss her every day - she lived behind my grandparents and I spent a lot of time there growing up b/c my mom worked at the family business located on my grandparents' land.
I still tear up when I think of her... it's crazy because I think all of us in my family try to remind ourselves that we were lucky to have her for so long (hell, she lived in 3 centuries, lol - born in 1898 and died in 2001), but there's a void in our lives now that she's gone - even 11 years later. She is so missed. I wish my kids had been able to know her the way my cousins and I got to.

Awww! I'm eagerly awaiting my first set of macaroni jewelry.
Non living is hard. My yarn or my phone, I think. I have a lot of really nice yarn.

This, except mine is hidden in a guest room where DH can't see it and make fun of me for still loving it. My external hard drive is what I would save first in a fire though.

Paintings by my aunt who passed away - she was a landscape artist from Maine. And some family photos that I got as the new family historian along with my DAR paperwork/binder.
Or my iPhone, which basically has become the single most utilized object in the history of my life. Email, phone calls, reading the news, googling everything, this board, etc..
So much this.
And in all seriousness probably my wedding ring, it was my great-grandmother's anniversary ring and my mother's first wedding ring. Now I just need to de-fatten my fingers so I can wear it again.

Lol!
I agree about the hard drive, but we haven't organized ourselves well enough to have everything important on one. Note to self.
Besides that, I'd grab our ketubah, or maybe my teddy bear from when I was a baby. DH had one exactly like it when he was a baby, too.

this "candle holder" (babyfood jar covered in glued on tissue paper) that grace made us for christmas a couple of years ago. not only did she make it and not tell us about it, but she snuck upstairs while opening her own presents to get it and sneak it under the tree. she was 3. i cried hard that year.
and my e-ring. it has some baggage on it (the stone was my grandmother's and she died young. then my father gave it to my mom and they divorced but i still love it.
