Brought to you by a detour we had to make after a broken water main .....I've never been a fan of two story columns on the outside of houses but square two story columns almost drive me over the edge

2 story foyers/cathedral ceilings Dark kitchen cabinets Island in the kitchen Gas ovens and electric stoves Gold/brass hardware Tile anywhere but a kitchen or bath Detached garage
You mean two-story houses with a front porch and no upper balcony?
words are hard.
So I'm not very techy but when I googled and this image came up I was all "well, those look pretty nice"....I mean columns that are on the front of a two story house that go from top to bottom but are square.. I dont know why but they rub me wrong!

I could go on...lol.
It must have been difficult for you to find a house here!
Garage doors at the front of the house. I don't want gigantic garage doors to be the main focus of my facade. Hate hate hate them.
ETA: Funny all the hate for detached garages! I would also never want an attached garage. I love my detached garage which is in back of the house.
Side loading garages are the best. Builders need to make more houses with those. I completely agree that garages should not be the focus of a house. I don't like detached though, bc it rains too much here in Portland for them to be practical.

We actually don't have any of the things I listed except for a detached garage (which isn't really that bad) and a gas oven (which I cannot stand), but we're just in a little rental for now. Whenever we are house hunting I'm sure there will be compromises to be made!
After viewing about 20 houses this month, a lot of things bug me.
Carpet Stucco Rock landscaping in the front "yard". Split level ( or whatever it's called when you walk in the front door to stairs going upstairs and downstairs) Gas fireplaces. How useless.
" Novelty" hardware on cabinets (like when the pulls look like forks, and spoons)
" Decorative" Plate or Switch Covers
3 Seasons rooms with dirty windows & astroturf flooring
You have seen this before in real life? wtf
Oh you have no idea... Our first home was purchased on a tiny budget, I have seen LOTS of wacky things. Also when we rented our first apartment the flooring in the bathroom was carpet SAMPLES over the sub floor. DH laid down laminate in that one.

I never knew about this hatred for attached garages. I though attached garages were the rule rather than the exception. They are around here anyway. I would HATE not having my garage attached to the house.
Master suites on one floor and the rest of the bedrooms on another.
I hate this! I understand the reason why it sometimes ends up this way, it lends itself to a larger master suite but I hate first floor masters w/other rooms upstairs. Give me my own wing but don't leave me next to the kitchen! lol

Vinyl (or aluminum or composite) siding. When we replaced our cedar shingles we hand-dipped Every. Single. Shingle. in natural stain. We have the only natural siding in the neighborhood and I love it.

Imagine the bacteria living in that carpet
Yup... Nasty.
At least in the apartment, I knew that no one had lived in there with the carpet down before us. (It had been vacant for years, and the samples were new )
DH still laid down the laminate that first week we lived there... cause EWWWWW
The only things that really bother me are structural, the things I cannot change. I like houses with separate rooms, and really dislike big open concepts with massive foyers. I mostly dislike new houses, unless they're custom builds that are to specs that I like. I'm not a fan of the new style of landscaping with mostly rock and desert plants. (@guyonabuffalo), this is huge in your area, I guess because of climate? Plus, are you moving?)
