I hope to have good news tomorrow about but definitely not counting on it. Even exempt employees will be paid retroactively so thank goodness for savings...just a crappy thing to need to spend it on. My H just came out of the bathroom and was all "ready for the collapse of civilization?" LOL
Time for the Poor Poodles and Booze For Federal Employees thread?

Where did you hear this? DH heard back pay is unlikely....

Work bulletin stated that exempt employees will be paid retroactively. Non-exempt employees will likely not be paid at all. We were supposed to get paid next week, and even exempt employees probably won't see that check for awhile.

I just read this to DH. I'm thinking exempt and non-exempt in traditional employment terms - salary and hourly. You're talking about furlough-exempt. Yeah, DH isn't exempt that way.

I'm sorry It's gonna be a tough month for a lot of us while all of this gets sorted out. I guess all there is to do is just be patient as information about the final language in the approved appropriations bill is put together and hope this all gets resolved quickly.

You guys. I will shit another brick if we have to go another week unpaid (already did 6 days this summer during which I shit one brick, just ask Angelaa).

Man, I really hope they pay you guys retroactively. This is such bullshit.
Yup.
Although bullshit might not be strong enough of a word. Fuckery. Asshat fuckery.
(2) such sums as are necessary to provide pay and allowances to the civilian personnel of the Department of Defense (and the Department of Homeland Security in the case of the Coast Guard) whom the Secretary concerned determines are providing support to members of the Armed Forces described in paragraph
Okay, that's what I read it as too, but that just seems like such a broad categorization. I guess that would explain why only about a third of the work force at H's location is getting sent home, if the rest can't be as indicated by the language in 2a(2).
Not all DoD civilians are exempt from furlough, only certain ones who are considered "essential", which a lot of them aren't.
No idea how this is going to effect me and my husband. I'm assuming I'll get paid either on time, or eventually (active duty military), but he's a substitute teacher with DoD schools. I'm pretty sure regular DoD teachers are considered "essential", but not sure about subs like H. I mean, he's already committed to teaching a few days this week and next week, and will almost certainly get called to teach a few more days. Just hoping he will eventually get paid for those days, but nobody has really told him...

"I was thinking about getting off on demand, but it sounds like I should be glad that I didn't"
Well I googled, but I see that they are protected, and some have stepped up, and said that they will forgo paychecks. It just seems that if their decisions are hurting federal workers, their paycheck should be taken as well.
