I think I'm right here. I've unforch been off my AD's for a few days cold turkey and this week it turns out is the absolute worst gd week for this I have such sadz between the poor SUV driver incident, the shut down and all the families effected, and now this. I think I need to curl under my covers and suck a binky or something
Capitol Police sent out the following advisory to staffers:
"SHELTER IN PLACE. Gunshots have been reported on Capitol Hill requiring all occupants in all House Office Buildings to shelter in place. Close, lock and stay away from external doors and windows. Take annunciators, Go Kits and escape hoods; and move to the innermost part of the office away from external doors or windows. If you are not in your office, take shelter in the nearest office, check in with your OEC and wait for USCP to clear the incident. No one will be permitted to enter or exit the building until directed by USCP. All staff should monitor the situation. Further information will be provided as it becomes available."
The House and Senate went into recess after the shooting.

I pray no one is killed.
I'd prefer to wait until the "facts" are known (as much as we will ever really know them) before deciding on my own any info regarding the legality of the gun.

I kind of regretted leaving DC (where H and I were both Hill staffers, I worked in Hart), but this week I am so, so, soooo glad I don't live there anymore.
I have no idea what this stuff is: annunciators, Go Kits and escape hoods
Me neither. At first I was shocked that they even had anything like that. But then I remembered the shooting in the 90s when Clinton was president. Two officers were killed

All congressional offices have supplies in case of emergency. I don't remember exactly but I think the annunciators are walkie talkie things staffers use to keep in touch with Capitol police. There are two kinds of hoods, one for smoke and one for chemical/biological warfare. Offices also have a shit ton of bottled water and some non-perishable food in case people get stuck there long term.

Me neither. I'm guessing escape hoods have some bullet protection or explosion protection maybe? Go kits, while sounds like a good version of kit kats are probably more likely to be ready made packs with like extra id's, maybe food type things, etc. Annunciator, maybe a ealkie talkie type thing or one way communication to get info as it is learned?
You know what's funny? Ten minutes ago, that shooter was likely a law-abiding "responsible gun owner." And now, he's a CRAZY OUTLIER. Bitter lol.
YES. God, I'm so tired of this. Every time there's another accident or another shooting, everyone's all, "Oh, well, THAT GUY clearly wasn't responsible; he doesn't represent us RESPONSIBLE gun owners."
ughhh.
Well it doesn't. That guy does NOT represent me. I own firearms but that certainly doesn't mean that I'm liable to go and shoot up a public building or anyone for that matter.
I'd really like to know how one group of jerkwad motorcyclist doesn't allow you to assume all motorcyclists are jerkwads but one crappy person with a gun automatically means all people with guns are crappy.

Ditto although technically I'm not the owner of the firearms but dh is and I can assure you the only way he would use them (other than firing range practice of course) is if he HAD to use it to protect his family from harm.
Really, believe it or not, some people, dare I saw most people with guns, will never do what this guy did. I can assure you

We stopped for dim sum in Chinatown and were discussing walking over to the Capitol when Moe told me to stay safe. Plans changed. Heading the other direction for the evening.
