You need training and a license to drive a car. Your ability to drive can also be revoked if you are irresponsible or prove to be mentally or physically incapable of doing so.
Guns do not have those same restrictions in place. When you have to pass a certification class, background check and get a license that must be renewed on a regular basis, then we can talk.
I get people like guns. I don't understand it, but if that's your thing then fine. But there HAS to be restrictions.
There are limitations in place already. There are limitations on motorcyclists. Following your logic, if the motorcycle gang had injured that child, then that would mean that we should not be able to get a motorcycle because you can't tell if they will be a responsible rider or not.
I think that the root of the issue is not with whether or not people can own guns. I truly and honestly believe that there is a much bigger problem in this country with getting people the mental health care that they so desperately need. It just doesn't make sense to take away people's rights because someone else can't play by the rules. There are so many things in this world that someone can use for evil and we can't ban them all.
And I'm getting really irritated by your continued use of "responsible". I am responsible with our firearms to a T and then some. But honestly, I don't think this conversation will really get anywhere because I'm not changing your mind and you are not changing mine.
Yeah, you can. It's called a driver's test. The thing you have to take before you can legally drive a motor vehicle anywhere in the US.
I could have gone to the gun show at the state fairgrounds last week and purchased a handgun without having to show anything other than an ID. IF that. I'm just saying. Regardless of your view on guns, if you don't think there are at least SOME loopholes (like the gun show loophole) that should be narrowed or closed then I don't know what to say, I guess.
Hell, you can just buy one off the internet. Why leave the comfort of your home?

This is not a loophole. That is illegal unless they already have a conceal carry permit. Those vendors should be getting in big, big trouble.
I do agree that there should be continued recertification for gun permits.

Police chief is not confirming shots fired by the lady in the car (he said shots may have been fired). They are investigating and he's going to update the press in half an hour.

I'm in MA I think the laws are far more strict here. Again, as a non gun owner and as a person without a license, I am not entirely sure of the process here, but I know with 100% certainty that d had to go through classes, training, and pass the cert test before becoming licensed. And has to re-certify.
Maybe it's much more lenient in other parts of the country. Here it's auto jail time if caught (caught is the key word I guess) with firearms without a license. This could account for being more of less afraid of them. The isn't a fair around here where someone can just go buy a gun, it's not like that here at all.
If I lived where anyone can just walk in to a fair, buy a gun (and I assume bullets are as easily accessible?) and that's that, they aren't checked, etc, yeah I'd be a bit more afraid, no doubt. I don't know that I'd want to live in a place like that, because that is where I could see more accidents happening, where the laws are less strict.
I 100% agree those states need stricter laws. I'd really never heard I that being possible. I've been told before that I should leave the north east to see how the other parts of the country work. I think this helps reaffirm my choice to stay here. At least in the short run.

Oh and the separate paragraphs that Don't always belong Etc are a result of shakiness due to meds and I 100% post from phone so that's why No hidden agenda Just sickness Sorry!
The obnoxious pro-gun people also so often seem to gloss over the fact that cars, knives, and hammers, etc. all have alternate functions and purposes. The PURPOSE of a gun is TO SHOOT AT THINGS.
I am genuinely surprised this is just now happening. I honestly thought there would be riots on Day One. I'm glad there wasn't, though. My heart is breaking for that poor kid. I can't even imagine how scary that is.

Excuse me, I call bullshit. I post from a tiny ass dumb phone and take a fuck ton of meds just to function. Please to be not making up reasons as to why you post like a bad poem.
I think I'm right here. I've unforch been off my AD's for a few days cold turkey and this week it turns out is the absolute worst gd week for this I have such sadz between the poor SUV driver incident, the shut down and all the families effected, and now this. I think I need to curl under my covers and suck a binky or something
Um, no, I don't mean I have the "sadz". I mean I was in the building in the Navy Yard for the shooting two weeks ago, and seeing the words "active shooter" pop up on my screen made me unable to breathe and my brain freeze up in panic. It was probably not the best decision, but I shut down my computer, left my (temporary) office, walked as fast as I could back to my car in the Navy Yard, and drove home. All I could think about was getting as far away as I could. So you, know, I actually couldn't process what I was seeing.

birdy maybe we don't have the same sickness or aren't on the same meds?
I'm not sure what "please to be making up reasons as to why you post like a bad poem" means. Like, did you mean you are pleased to be making up things? I'm sorry, I don't think we are on the same meds at all. Mine aren't to function per se, just function a bit better. I trade the shakiness And I haven't given up coffee which told could help reduce the shaking Mines not a tiny ass phone, it's an iPhone that auto corrects such bullshit ways that sometimes it's too touchy as well. (One thing I think the droid was better at but that's for a different topic of course)

So your shakiness only affects the "return" key?
Well it's right under the back space on my phone so sometimes I'll be trying to back up to fix something etc, and it'll hit return on account of the shakiness and I just leave it since it's just a message board, I'm not writing my dissertation etc. But if effects a lot more irl but typing on my iPhone, basically yeah, it's mainly the return key Or the space bar as it's below the entire bottom row so occasionally I'll have an unnecessary space due to that
I'm posting from the app. Text wraps automatically, no need to hit enter or tab or whatever at the end of each line.
No, I know there's no need to hit return, I accidentally Hit it from the shakiness I meant And I use the app on the iPhone not my iPad so I just use my this not have full key typing I'd probably have less incidents like that using the iPad but it's too big most of the time

I wrote out this terribly long thing, but you know what? Just... no.

Yeah, because you can take out an entire classroom of kids in a matter of seconds with a knife.
I've never tried such a thing and don't even want to think about how long it would take but I imagine it doesn't take as long as one might think.
The point is, which u clearly know, you're just being an ass, is gun aren't the only way a "mentally ill" person can hurt someone if they want. You only chose the one example of knife and the one example of a case we doubt could be accomplished with a knife, and paired them up.
The SUV/motorcycle incident didn't involve guns and I'm pretty sure those motorcyclists were sick fucks, so terror and harm can be accomplished without a gun. And you all know it. I do understand it's easier to live in a world where it's so easy to just think that way, but sometimes reality is just that, reality
JFC, has anyone told you lately how fucking dense you really are?
Your argument here is outrageously flawed, and its pretty apparent to me that you have little, to no knowledge of the facts surrounding the incident you're attempting to use as leverage for your vacuous claims.
Because I have actually paid attention to the details of the case you're referring to, I can inform you that the fact that motorcycles were present at the time of the assault against the driver of the SUV is completely irrelevant, as they were simply hunks of metal laid out on the asphalt at the time the assault was taking place.
Also, motorcycles, cars, and knives serve more than one purpose. People don't frequently purchase vehicles for the purpose of killing or injuring someone or something. Guns, on the other hand...
