Eating could be better - I've been splurging a lot. I just love multiple slices of white pizza too much.
Activity-wise, running is going very well. I ran a 5K at Giants Stadium on Sunday - the last tenth of a mile was across the field! It was really cool. Not a PR, but surprisingly close to it - still a sub-9:00/mile pace. It was unexpected because the sun practically killed me the whole race (Garden State my ass, they need trees around that stadium), and I wasn't sure how fast I could go given that my pacing during training has the marathon in mind, not this 5K. But I learned that higher weekly mileage helps more than anything else! DH and his sister were calling this the C. Family Death Race - they were competing hardcore to see who would win. DH won by a whopping four seconds because he sprinted at the very end and SIL's mistake was running the first mile too fast so she had nothing left at the end. Luckily they're doing this race again next year but during Draft Weekend; late April weather should be better than this week's weather!
Eating = going well, minus gorging myself on cake pops and apple whiskey at the wedding I was in last weekend.
Exercise = meh, but I signed up for a 7K this weekend. I'm not all that prepared, but I think I'll be able to run all/most of it. Though yesterday I had a really shitty run and fizzled out halfway through.
I fizzle through training runs but races just bring out the best in me; I feel like there's no way I can just stop. You'll be fine despite the fizzling out, and take walk breaks whenever you need to.
Go Marie! Keep it up and take advantage of this awesome weather.
Brookles--I've never heard of a 7 k. I think I like that kind of distance.
As for me--eating's been okay. I've been tracking (mostly) again, though a guest last night became an excuse for too much lemon merengue tart and ice cream. I've been doing yogurt in the morning and fruit as a snack for three days now. I went to Powerstrike yesterday and surprised myself in my ability to keep up, until I chatted with the instructor afterward and he said that this was a level one class. It HAS been a long time. I'm going to Zumba today!
I honestly think I got myself physically addicted to sugar during and after my pregnancy. Since I've been trying to cut sweets, I've gotten headaches. My solution for that yesterday was an iced mocha If anybody has any tips for making the withdrawal any less unpleasant, I'm all for it.
Eating has gone off the rails a bit this week because we've been away from home for dinner for the past 3 days in a row. Last night we didn't eat until 9:30 and resorted to Wendy's. Luckily a had snacks in my purse or else that could have gotten ugly around 8:30. (we were car shopping)
"Ran" a 5k this past sunday. It was a charity one that my friends and I do every year, and we signed up for it months ago. I didn't train at all outside of doing a lot of walking, and it was really hot. But walking 3 miles isn't even a bit of a challenge, so I did run some of it. Came in around a 13.5 minute mile. I guess I'll take that as a measure of my base level fitness and be happy. Except that's the same thing I said about this race last year...and somehow I didn't get any better in the intervening year. *sad trombone* Oh...and then I ate a reuben for brunch.
But at least we're done driving around visiting car dealerships and test driving stuff in the evenings, so we can actually get back to our walking and decent dinners. Onward and upward.
Marie, that sounds like a really cool race! Nice job!!
Shirley, unfortunately the best (worst) thing to do for sugar withdrawal is to just go cold turkey and suffer through a couple of days. When I cut sugar I think it took about 3 days of headaches and feeling like crap, but then it was a huge and much better difference.
Eating for me has been so weird since my race Saturday - I go through most of the day just not hungry, eat dinner, and then at 10pm I'm starving. It's odd. I feel like I almost have to force myself to eat, so my calories have been way down.
As for my race...
That's me, coming in 3rd place in my first ever race. I feel so damn bad ass and proud of myself. I got a big huge medal too, which is currently hanging over our kitchen sink. I am ready to do another race asap. It was so much fun.

YAY everyone!! I am on week two of South Beach and am down like 5 pounds. Guess I really had a bad sugar problem before. I never really liked breakfast before so having low fat Greek Yogurt for breakfast every morning suits me fine. I realize lunches were really my downfall. Bringing my lunch has really helped me out.
Congrats Emily and Marie! And yay for signing up for a 7k, Brookles...what part of Cinci? Mer-congrats on the South Beath success!
Eating=meh. I got my bridesmaid dress on Monday, tried it on and discovered that the band under the bust is just wide enough to get me right at the top of my waist. Which is fine for my long, lean sisters but not for their short waisted big sister whose remaining extra weight is hanging out in her waist/stomach area. My current plan of attack to deal with this is Spanx, but Cincinnati in August sucks and I don't WANT to wear spanx in that kind of humidity...so starting today (was supposed to be yesterday but I had one last binge on the snack machines at work) its diet lockdown for the next 7 weeks. I'm back below 150 lbs again which helps my cause...I was hoping to get back down to wedding weight (140) but am not 100% convinced that's going to happen.
Exercise-running is going great, despite the heat. I got my ass out of bed for a killer ladder workout this morning (2x400, 2x800, 1x1600, 2x800, 2x400 with 1:1 rest in between...I skimped on the rest in the name of saving time) since it may be our last coolish morning for a bit, and with temps in the 90s and pushing 100 for the rest of the week anything after today is going to be about survival mode. Or running inside, which I hatehatehate when the weather doesn't suck.
Plus, I got my butt back to yoga on Sunday, and am hoping to go Friday. In addition to the TWO yoga groupon/livingsocial deals I'm trying to use up, I snagged another one for a yoga/spin/TRX place on my way home from work but am planning to use that one strictly for TRX (okay, and maybe spin class) to help me work on some strength training and hopefully tone up before this damn wedding. Oy...7 more weeks.

If I had to pick one thing that has seriously helped me lose weight and maintain weight, it's packing my lunch. No doubt about it, it has been really helpful (and eye-opening). Also saves me a ton of money!

It's the Hyde Park Blast (in Hyde Park, obv). I've only ever done 5Ks so I figure a couple more will be a good challenge.
Also, 7 weeks is definitely enough time to tone up. You can totally do it!

Oooh, fun! I did the Blast in 2009 and the crowd support is fantastic...plus the post race cocktails aren't half bad either It definitely wasn't an easy race-I had done the Pig half six weeks prior so I figured hills on the Blast course would be no problemo. WRONG! I should have known better since I wasn't a complete stranger to Hyde Park, but oh well. I would totally do it again but it seems like I have stuff going on that weekend every year
Good job harpy! Are there places with really good gluten-free product sections near you?
Yes! We have Whole Foods nearby, plus if I'm willing to actually venture out a bit, there is a hippie co-op. There is a cupcake company downtown that regularly does gluten free cupcakes. There is actually a whole gluten free company in town, plus a really good pizzeria has gluten free crust available. I think that Milwaukee's reputation as a rust belt city means its crunchy granola people presence is totally underestimated by outsiders.
Also, y4m and a college friend gave me some good tips.
I'm really debating signing up for the last race in the series in September. The only problem is it will be a month after I have surgery. Which is probably a bad idea, and even if I felt good enough to do it would mean I would come in dead last...but it was so fun and I don't want to wait until next year to do another one. I'm so torn on what to do. *stamps foot*
I already ate my lunch sandwich. I'm ravenous. The crazy this is that Wednesdays are my off days for exercise, so I got to sleep in and therefore ate breakfast a bit later than usual. Ugh.

It's taking everything in me to NOT go chow down on my lunch right now...and I just had a snack. I know this is because I ran this morning, but still. MUST.EAT.NOW.
Marathon training starts this week! I'm running the Marine Corps Marathon. It's going to be a long, sweaty summer. I'm limiting my weight lifting to once a week on my cross training day.
I ate pretty bad over the weekend since it was my b-day and DH made a yummy cake and ice cream. But the cake and ice cream are gone now so that's good, although there is a huge tub of frosting in the freezer (recipe made way too much!).
I'm chowing down on my lunch now (Butternut Squash and Pear soup).

this problem is why I switched my lunch food around to just be a constant stream of snacks. I pretty much eat something every hour from 10 till 3.

Emily - way to kick serious ASS! Congrats to everyone on their accomplishments, small and large.
Exercise - Yesterday I decided I was not going to continue Crossfit and even found a new kick boxing gym to try out and everything. Was dreading going last night and looking for any possible excuse not to go. So dragging my feet into the gym and ended up having a decent work out. So now I am back to trying to decide what to do.
Food - Still struggling. I made those protein muffins posted last week. I can't say I'm a huge fan. However, since I can eat one in like three or four bites I'm eating them. All I had was chocolate protein so maybe that's where I went wrong? Today, I ended up eating my lunch for my morning snack and am still starving. Don't know what I am going to do about lunch now.
ETA: I want to try a 7k - sounds like a fun distance!
Okay, I'm getting back on the wagon. Eating is going well, swimming is going well. I couldn't do my run/weights yesterday morning because of a work meeting, but I tend to view my workouts as a whole week rather than each day, so I'll just make it up on Sunday.
The ILs are coming to town this weekend and since I've adopted my new "I don't give a shit" approach, I plan to do a brick on Sunday and a long swim on Saturday. What's that you say? You mean, without me around, DH won't be able to help MIL get FIL around because he'll be busy lassoing our two unruly children?
Don't care. I got a date with my running shoes suckaaahs.

Look at you guys, with your races and awesome finishes!
I've been doing pretty good, I think. According to the scale I'm down 1.4lbs and frankly, I was really surprised to see it. Happy, but surprised. I've been trying to make it a point to do *something* every day, even if it's just 10 min of yoga. I figure something is better than nothing.

I didn't step on the scale this morning. I was up until 3 am working and I just about got myself out the door, nevermind, remembering to do that.
I'm on week 2 of my 1/2 training. Last nigtht I ran my 5k workout. I ran the whole thing. I felt good and my knee wasn't bothering me. I also ran without my phone so I was all about a regular watch. I swear it helped me focus to not have music.
Tomorrow I am doing a charity 1 mile race. :0) My kids are going to Gramma's for two days so I am going to enjoy the time to myself. DH is on nights so I get the house ALLLLL to myself. :0)
My eating is sooooooo shitty right now. I hate summer because I'm home all day and have no self-control. I've gained 4 pounds while increasing my running mileage. WTF?
Running is going well. I'm tired and could use a break, but it will have to wait until fall, apparently, or I'll gain another 10 pounds. I have a half on August 11 up in the mountains and maybe a 5K on July 4th.
