Yes, and the parent deems that the best interest for their child is to be brought into spiritual communion & covenant with God as they exercise their religious freedom under the protection of the law. Their best is not your best and vice versa.

See I see that as imposition.
This is why the last sentence is necessary. And, so far, protected by law.
"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."
Sorry to have posted and run - it was midnight and I was falling asleep. I was a little hesitant to butt in because I am not American and I have never had sex with a circumcised man. I have never known a small boy who had foreskin trouble because he was not circumcised.
I do believe that Germany would be the last country in Europe to vote a law where the Jewish community would be targeted. They have the strictest anti-discrimination laws.
But another poster had a point in saying that extreme right parties are a growing concern in Europe. Most of their hatred goes towards the Muslim community however and the Roma's. It makes me really sad.
well if there can be no religious exemption for, say, something 'cosmetic' like circumcision, there can be no religious exemption for vaccines, either.
AGREED. But I am 100% pro-mandatory vaccines for everyone.
I have a possibly stupid question that may have already been addressed and may or may not be important to this discussion. If you aren't a Jew and circumcise, then why are you doing it if not for cosmetic purposes?

this is why i said (back there somewhere) i was curious as to why lhc circumsized, as she said it was not cosmetic. but she inferred it was a choice she/mrlhc made, which to me signals that it was also not medically necessary.
[and i'm not singling out lhc, it just so happens that she offered up that info -- i'm sure this question ould be directed at a number of people here who don't believe they chose it for cosmetic reasons].
For the same reason they circumcized almost everyone back in the 70s. They just do it, because they think it is cleaner or something.
The link I posted a few pages back says that over 60% of american baby boys are circumcized, whereas it is 25% in Canada. So my guess is a lot more american doctors encourage circumcision, even though there is no scientific backup for it.
And the truth is, you can teach your son to clean himself and emphasize how important it is, but kids can be gross and they aren't in your sight at all times (think of sending them to summer camp at age 8 or so). I have been an overnight camp counselor and kids at camp can be beyond disgusting, no matter their habits at home.
Maybe this should be in a flameful. Religion is such an easy cop out. It's crazy when god tells someone to commit crimes in the name of their religion but not crazy when he tells people to cut off babies skin? what a crock of shit. Cause both acts are seen as ways of being a true follower.
I hate when people attempt to justify (or ok, or rationalize, or whatever word you want to use) circumcision by saying that babies dont really mind having a piece of their body cut off because they only cry for a second. I need to find the journal article that showed that some babies stopped crying because they were in shock, not that they werent feeling pain. Sugar water can only do so much. Or the cleanliness excuse. 8 year olds at camp are dirty period. They dont even wash their hands properly, but we dont cut them off.
I just had twin boys in a large US city. The NICU didn't tell us what to do, but after we said no to circumcision, the team said they preferred when parents don't. Our pedi said she is seeing an increase in noncirc'd boys. None of them could provide a medical reason to do it.
