I agree, 5'8" seems on the short side for a man. Isn't there some formula, like twice the height at some age is projected adult height? Only, I thought it was younger than 5. Off to google.

Doubling the height of a two year old is supposed to give a reasonable estimate if their adult height.
My H is 5'7". I consider him to be on the shorter side, but not short, if that makes sense. My dad is 5'10" and I think he's pretty normal, maybe on the taller side. I think 5'8" is probably just about middle of the road. Perhaps on the shorter side, but no so much that it's going to really impact him.
I was always in the 90th percentile as a kid, projected to be 5'9'. I'm 5'5". My brother was projected to be 5'10" and is 6'3". Projections are almost worthless, imo. Ha.
my G's projected height is 6'7". since we're talking about it.
Holy fuck.
See, I was thinking avg man height for 20 year olds in 2028 would be like 6 ft 2.
These days Americans are not getting taller. Average heights have held steady for about half a century now.
Current average height for a man is 69 inches according to the CDC. But average is more of a range than an exact number, so 5'8" definitely falls into average. I'm 5'6 1/2" and I think of myself as on the taller side of average. Just because I'm not exactly 5'4" doesn't mean I'm not in the range of average. (I'm also the shortest woman in my extended family)
Oh and my mom is short and married my dad because he was tall (lol), so that she could have tall kids. My brother is 5'8" and married a 5'11" woman, much to my mom'a desperation. A short son really is her worst nightmare come true. Lol
I guess I was exaggerating the generational height increase in my mind.
I'll be thrilled if 5 ft 8 is average for his peers. And again, I didn't think I would magically make a tall child. I thought that I would make a shortish child, and was surprised when the pedi called what I thought was a shortish height "average".
