FWIW, I'm 5'7", H is 5'11", and it's predicting my 3 yo son will be 6'.
It predicted 5 ft 8 too!
(Gavel)
Obviously, there will be variations, but it correctly predicted my height and was only one inch off for my dad. For example, my sister has the same parents but is four inches shorter than I am.
It is now weird to me to think that my son will be that much taller than me.
I guess I was exaggerating the generational height increase in my mind.
I'll be thrilled if 5 ft 8 is average for his peers. And again, I didn't think I would magically make a tall child. I thought that I would make a shortish child, and was surprised when the pedi called what I thought was a shortish height "average".
I think he'll be fine :-) Not even "shortish."
Many guys who are are under 5'10" round their height up so it sounds like the average is taller than it is. There are a number of guys out there who claim 5'8" or 5'9" who are shorter than me.
Aren't they saying the population is increasing in height over the past few generations? Too lazy to Google.
the population average might increase but this is one child born to a real short lady (sorry stellas) and an above average man.
Oh, totally, I have seen the pics of them on here. I just was answering the question of why the "generation" point was being brought up. Maybe we can assume he will be taller than if he were born to Stellas and her DH a generation ago, or is that a stretch? (No pun intended).
Nope. That happened in the early 20th century but things stalled out a while ago.
Good to know. Maybe it's puberty and general development I was hearing about more recently.
Oh yes. Early puberty rates have risen but early puberty actually does the opposite. Women usually stop growing a certain amount of time after they start their periods. Early puberty means you often stop growing in height at a younger age.

I'm 5'6, H is 5'10. Ds1 is 4'2, he turned 5 last week. His pediatrician doesn't do size projections but I'd like the other 4 inches I was told I'd be getting. Your son is darling so I wouldn't sweat it, somehow I doubt you are anyway.
Oh and my mom is short and married my dad because he was tall (lol), so that she could have tall kids. My brother is 5'8" and married a 5'11" woman, much to my mom'a desperation. A short son really is her worst nightmare come true. Lol
This was my plan! I'm 5' even and always said I would only marry someone 6' or taller so my kids would have a chance at average. Dh is only 5'10". Damn him for seducing me with his sweet dance moves. Sorry, kids!
She's in the 46th percentile for height at 6 months, which surprised me since I am taller than average and my H is average height (6').
Measurements at 6 months can really vary. At that point, DD was still at the 2% for weight and 30% for length. Once she started eating a lot of solids, she shot up. After that initial growth spurt she settled at 75% for both by 15ish months. At three she's still at that same rate.
I've never gotten a prediction for Ben's height. It never even occurred to me to ask. Huh. He's the tallest and the youngest in his class, so I guess that's good?
I had to convert to be sure but yes, that is short for a man IMO. (I'm 5'5'') Though it's apparently the average height of belgian men too, so clearly I don't know much.
Pretty sure my view is coloured by having a 6'4'' husband and a 6'1'' dad. To me 1.80-1.85 (let's call it 6') is average for a man and you don't get to be called tall until you reach 1.90 (6'2''). Totally arbitrary, I know.
My parents are the exact same height as you and your DH stellas.
My brother, sister and I are all exactly 5'7". Not great for my brother, fine for sister and I.
I just feel bad for my brother because he was always short but so was my Dad when he was a kid. My Dad told him he would suddenly shoot up some day. He didn't.
I was projected to be 5'7" and I'm 5'1 on a good day. lol. I don't put any stock into those predictions. My brother was always petite as a kid but now he is suddenly 6' and still growing.
That being said, there is nothing wrong with 5'8" if it turns out correct.
I don't either...my brother was always on the 'low end' of those scales as a kid...he is either 5'11' or 6 foot now. Both our parents were 5'7' and our heights are 5'9", 5'11" and 6 foot...
I think it depends on the people around you. To me, 5'8" is short because most men I know are at least 6'.
Based on the "double their height at age 2", Henry won't be much taller than me (5' 6 1/2")when he is an adult. I don't know how much stock I put in that considering all of his male relatives are much taller. Time will tell.
Our pedi uses a formula to predict a height. Its the average of the parent' heights plus 2 inches for boys, and either minus or plus one for girls. I'm 5 foot, H is 6'1.
If you use that, my twins will be 5'8.
If you double their height at 2, they are screwed. Henry (almost 20 months) just made it onto the growth charts at the 1% for height.
I see a growth hormone discussion in our future.
I also don't put much stock in the prediction calculators. I'm a good 7 inches shorter than anyone in my family.
My H is probably around 5'8", but he says he's 5'10". lol. He's taller than me, so I don't consider him short. But I would consider it the short side of average.
When I am fitting male patients with gait aids, I ask them how tall they are, & they ALWAYS add 2" to their height!! Then I have to go back and lower the walker/crutches.... LOL

I think height perception has a lot to do with where you are living and the ethnic representation of the area.
I am in retail buying, and we use software to help figure out size curves by region. There are areas of the US where a men's Small, or sizes 7-8 in men's Footwear, are much more important vs other areas.
I have a friend who met her husband through Tall Club International, and the minimum for a man is 6'2" and a woman is 5'10".
