Has anyone ever done it? Were you successful, or not?
My doctor actually recommends it, and I am thinking of trying it in the New Year. I cannot seem to lose ANY baby weight. I eat under my calories, and exercise everyday, and today and I actually gained 2 lbs, ugh!
I did it back in high school. I failed. I would go about 2 days before I would want to murder someone for a doughnut.I don't even like doughnuts that much.
I think South Beach made more sense to me. Its unrealistic to never eat carbs again so it's like you're destined to gain it back. South Beach adds them back in slowly but only good carbs. I failed at that too though.
I tried it for about a week once. It's true that you lose a lot of weight from the diet, but I think it's better to reduce intake of carbs rather than nearly cutting them out completely.
If you do it, I would recommend a whole foods approach to it: meat, natural fats, lots of non-starchy vegetables. There are a lot of Atkins products out there that are highly processed and that seems counter-intuitive to me.
It was my wedding diet! I lost a ton of weight and lived on cheese, meat, veggies and redi whip. Its great if you have to lose weight for an event but not as a lifestyle for the long haul.
I am mostly looking to jump start weight loss I guess. I think my body needs a kick in the ass to let go of some of the fat stores. How long did you do it for? were you miserable?

I wasn't okay with any diet that cut a lot of whole fruits and veggies out of my diet while adding in a ton or processed crap. Plus, I like bread. A LOT.
I found the GD diet is wonderful. You don't withhold any foods but everything is in moderation. Just lower carbs, 30/60/60 (grams at breakfast/lunch/dinner) and more protein to help break down the carbs. I lost weight while pregnant following the diet and was told they really recommend it PP to help lose the baby weight.
Is there specific information on this, or just what you said above? Or should I ask my doctor?
Also, don't beat yourself up about not dropping weight. It is a process. Your baby is so young and it isn't unusual for the weight to not drop at this point. I didn't start dropping weight until around 7 months pp both times and it was off between 9-12 months.

I did it back in 2004 and lost 40 lbs before my wedding. It worked but is not sustainable long-term. It gets boring. I still can't eat certain things that I ate a lot of back then. And when I fell off track, I quickly gained back all 40 lbs and then some.
Now I have lost 90 lbs in the last couple of years just through general lifestyle change. It was a lot of trial and error, and took MUCH longer - but at least I know that I can do it for the long haul.

I was nursing, but I am not anymore. Even while nursing, I lost nothing. Not a freaking thing. But, I am still holding on to water/fluid like you wouldn't believe...
I did it right before it really exploded with popularity back in the 90s. It was hard. I lost some weight but put it back on when I tried introducing carbs again. I think there are better alternatives out there now.
My BFF was carb-free for a long time but now she swears by Paleo.

I didn't drop with nursing and after I weaned. It was a crock of shit lol.
Hang in there. It really is a process, but eventually if you make the lifestyle changes your body finally lets go of the weight.

Interesting. I was wondering if this would help me lose weight. I had 30/45/45 while pregnant and 15 for snacks in between each meal.
My mom did it a long time ago. She was always trying fad diets. She didn't do so well. But her version of the Atkins diet was not exactly healthy either. She was eating steak for lunch every day or a salad with about two cups of shredded cheese on it. Her favorite snack became pork rinds because they were so low carb! And she would dip them in full fat sour cream.
She didn't lose any weight.
I agree with others that it's better to reduce your carbs rather than eliminate them. And choose the better ones.

Years ago, my good friend was on Atkins. We used to get together to watch whatever Sunday series was on HBO (Sopranos/SATC). She would thinly slice and then bake a one pound block of cheddar cheese as her low carb snack during the shows. Those things were delicious, but she lost no weight.
My SIL is doing amazing with Paleo, but she does things like eat a salad with beets on it while everyone else is enjoying pizza at a birthday party. She almost never eats out (more of a financial/lifestyle choice though - she would be eating 99% of the time at home regardless). I really don't think I could handle that.

I didn't lose any weight when bf. None. It took me until about the 9mth mark to start making real progress. You are only 2 mths out. Give your self a break, it might not happen easily. You just made a human.
I did Atkins, lost about 30lbs. Loved it. Until I hated it. Then I gained all the weight back plus more in no time at all.
It's not even a good option to "jump start" your weight loss. You'll lose it but then gain it right back as soon as you introduce carbs again.
I'd try South Beach first. I've heard great things about it. Same concept, but more doable.
I also recommend the whole 30. I did my first one two years ago. It taught me a lot about whole foods and how certain foods affect my body. For the next year I ate 80/20 Paleo and looked and felt amazing. I have slacked off and am probably 50/50 and feel pretty horrible about myself. I will probably do another whole 30 in January.
The only person I know of who did Atkins ended up nearly hospitalized from constipation. lol.
LOLOLOL
I swore I would never laugh at constipation again, after my epic bout of it 6 days post C/S. I think it might have been worse than the actual morning after the surgery.
I think it's a horrible, horrible way to eat. I did it in my early 20's and stopped because my fucking kidneys literally ached. Whatthemotherfuckingfuck? It scared me so I stopped.
