I slept for 14 hours last night. FOURTEEN HOURS. It was pretty amazing but now all I want to do is be lazy; I went out and got a bagel and some coffee like an hour ago and came home and climbed back into my bed.
Tapering is, not unexpectedly, making me a little crazy. I didn't think it would set in til next week but I feel all twitchy. But also still lazy.

I ran a 5K this morning. I wasn't sure what to expect because I have a cough and it was very cold, but I ran it 2.5 minutes faster than the same race last year. It wasn't a great time overall (cold + tough-ish course), but I am pretty happy with my time.
Wow! 14 hours is a lot of sleep. Maybe your body just needed it? Hopefully you feel well rested! You are not lazy; you are tapering!
My random: I posted on MM yesterday that we may be moving... and now I can't stop looking at jobs and houses in the possible new location and making all kinds of possible contingency plans.
I got a kumquat tree this weekend. I wish kumquats were a bit more sweet.
I'm excited that my new running track has distance markers every 50 meters. That should be awesome for intervals. Also, yay for a 2.5K rubberized track!
ETA: New track because we finally moved out of our hotel (after just 87 days) and to a different neighborhood.

I'm scared of tapering (not due for ages) but do you feel 'rested' and if you ran a long run that you'd perform really well?
my random: I went to the pub for lunch today after my 15.3 mile long run. I had a burger with chips AND dessert. I didn't feel a single bit of guilt. I LOVE running.

Yes. I feel particularly well-rested at the moment because I skipped my run yesterday (speed work, no less) on account of feeling crappy and exhausted (see: 14 hours of sleep). I still have 2 weeks to go until race day, so I will definitely be good by then. I think one of my issues in the Chicago marathon back in October was that I only tapered for 2 weeks instead of 3. At the same time, I've been running a lot more miles since then than I did before, and therefore I am recovering a lot more quickly, and so I think that I actually could have done a 2 week taper this time around and been fine.

I need to workout. After the jack & coke and Sam's Adam beer I had at lunch I don't want to. I need to though to get my workouts in. I just want to be lazy now. I only ate 1/3 of my lunch that should count as something.
I started my Half training this week after pretty much no running for the last two months. I'm happy I stuck to the plan and have ran more this week than I did last two months combined. Just for reference I ran 12 miles this week. That's how little I ran the past two months!!!
Also work stress is at an all time high so I'm so happy I'm training again. It really helps clear my head.

No, all good information and perspective. I'm new to long race competitions, so I've never tapered before. I've only ever done 10k races until recently, and I usually only ran three times before the race then just ran it. That's why this board is amazing. I'm learning loads and hey, I even have a training plan!
I was having a good, relaxed, slow, short gravel ride with friends today when one of them crashed. The tandem riders went to get their car to come pick us up. We went back to get my car, and I took her to Urgent care, and they would not see her. I had to take to to the ER. She's still there but has someone else picking her up. (I have a prior obligation tonight that I cannot get out of, and a bunch of our friends volunteered to pick her up after she posted on FB. She's in contact with them.) Most likely she cracked her hip, has a minor internal injury, and a shoulder/rotator cuff problem. Poor girl! I plan to check on her tomorrow....oh yes, and I'm still sick. I hope to get a little relaxing in tomorrow to try to rest up. I hate being sick!
I am feeling ridiculously guilty for bailing on my long ride today and pushing it to tomorrow. I am having way too much trouble getting back in to the training groove.
It finally warmed up a bit, to 35 lol, so Dh and i went out in the sunshine and snowshoed 5 miles on park trails across the road from us. The dog got to run along off leash and was loving the snow. Sitting by the fire now...awesome day!

I'm finally released to do pool running. I learned today that people around here are selfish and don't like to share the pool. Especially the people just splashing around in the open swim area. It's gonna be a long six weeks.
We're steam cleaning our carpets today and moving furniture around in our living room. I feel like such an adult!
So, I signed up for my first sprint tri (Iron Girl Columbia, in case anyone was looking for a beginner tri as well) and DH believed that this race fee and "permission" to travel out of state to race again justified his desire to get a new television. It's arriving Thursday. It's a good thing he's cute.
I'm way excited to play with naldridge soon! It's been way too long.
I signed up for Iron Girl Syracuse this week! Doing it with a group of high school friends I haven't seen forever- it should be a blast.
I'm finally released to do pool running. I learned today that people around here are selfish and don't like to share the pool. Especially the people just splashing around in the open swim area. It's gonna be a long six weeks.
This is what stresses me out about training for a sprint tri- There's a gorgeous community center pool so close to my house, but I'm so nervous to go to open/lap swimming because of the unknown etiquette. In the past I've had some clique-ish type people (my previous gym), who seemed to think the club pool was their own private swimming hole. Apparently I had a lot of nerve showing up at "their" 6am workout time. Ugh. Guess I just need to get over it and suck it up. HOpefully the people at this pool are nicer.
I haven't worked out all week and I am still riding a Christmas sugar high and carb fest. I'm not really complaining but this is the most I have weighed uh...ever.
I miss my mom.
And, I love my new house but we are in the HOOD. I romanticized the notion of living with the locals instead of being in the uppity side of town or a fancy new subdivision but turns out, it's a little scary. C'est la vie!

The sidewalks are a disaster from the latest snowstorm and it was 2 degrees when I woke up this morning so I decided to hit the treadmill. How come I can happily breeze through a 10 mile run outside each weekend but 6 on the mill is torture...each.and.every.step.
