1200 calories a day and 12+ hours of strenuous workout per day.Â
I don't think losing 45 lbs in 2 months is over the top. Â That averages out to about 5.6 lbs/week, which is not out of line with the numbers she was putting up at the ranch.
It's more concerning if she she lost 45 lbs in a month.  That averages out to about 11.25 lbs/week, which was tough for her even at the ranch.
Whether she *needed* to lose 45 lbs is another story. Â Quite the opposite - the consensus seems she could benefit from an eggnog latte or three.
Losing 45lbs in 2 months isn't over the top if you're obese, but at this point she was getting down into a healthier range. So yes, to go from 150 to 105 in two months is huge. The amount of not eating and exercising it takes to lose those last pounds is nuts.
Rachel was shocking. I couldn't even enjoy the rest of the show. If she truly is 5'4" (I suspect she may be taller), her bmi is 18, which is half a point below the normal range.
Bob and Jillian's expressions made me sad and I really hope they'll address it.
I think the show need to change to a targeted goal weight. Some contestants need to lose 55%+ body weight, but a lot of them would be ideal at 45% or a similar number. This one size fits all approach is not healthy, as evidenced by Rachel's appearance at the finale.
A to get her BMI to 18.5 would be like 5 pounds. 5 pounds is not a life or death situation. I think people just see her "before" pic and then see her now and see the drastic difference. It doesn't mean she's unhealthy.
My concern (granted it is based on a few pictures of her) is that it could become a life/death situation for her, because once you are in the throes of an ED (which I think she has in one form or another, speaking from experience), it is hard to give up the "control" that you think you have. In other words, I doubt she will willingly gain one ounce back, and may continue to lose weight because that makes her feel "in control" of her body. Maybe before she was an overeater, and now it is the opposite extreme, which is not uncommon.
At any rate, I don't see how anyone can look at those photos and see a healthy woman.

Interesting. As they come on after the Today show, I had always assumed they were NBC.
Because it's "syndicated" and it always has been like that. So while it's on NBC in Baltimore, it may be on CBS in Raleigh (I have no idea really, just saying). The networks get to pay to have that program.
this why i like the chris powell extreme makeover show instead. it's a whole year and regularly talks about food addiction and compulsive overeating. no competing against anybody else. i love chris powell so hard.
I love chris powell, follow him on instagram as well and he's great. It's adorable when he posts pictures with his little boy. There was one recently where they were eating a bag a chips and feeding the fish, it's nice to see these fitness idols eating junk on occasion. I'm sad because my OnDemand (Directv) doesn't list Extreme makeover anymore

Hmmmm. Yes. Love him!
I remember on one of the last ones a girl admitted to being bulimic and they got her help and stopped giving her numbers as a goal but gave her activity goals instead.
I wish there was a show that helped regular people learn how to lose weight in a healthy way, while still working, caring for their kids, etc.
A healthy cooking show for people that don't eat anything (aka extreme picky eaters) would be great too. It's sooo hard finding things that T will eat and have them be healthy, and I'm not making two different meals for us.
I will say he's gotten better, he now eats things cooked with mushrooms and onions and will eat green beans, carrots, celery, turnips, rutabagas, and broccoli but not on their own they usually have to be in stew form so he doesn't know.
I do think they talk about addiction and underlying issues on BL. I don't think they ignore it, it's mentioned often enough, but they obviously can't show counseling sessions (that I'm pretty sure they provide).

I do remember them talking about portion control and making smart decisions and if you are craving this, try this. When they were in Utah, Bobby mentioned to Bob about his binge earlier that week and Bob took action to cook them breakfast and show them a fast and easy breakfast that is good for the whole week. They obviously focus more on fitness during the show, but they do highlight some food stuff.
She doesn't look that thin, and unless people are really lying about her height, she is not that thin. I think it really remains to be seen whether she has a problem. 5 pounds does not make you karen carpenter.

Jillian just posted this on Facebook: Jillian Michaels So here it is.
Bob and I want to take a moment to congratulate all of the BL contestants on their hard work. We're not comfortable commenting on Rachel’s journey because weren't her trainers and weren't given an opportunity to work with her at any point. Any questions about the contestants on the Biggest Loser should be directed to the show’s producers.

Wow. WOW. Is the bolded actually true? I seem to remember her working out with them at some point even though they weren't her "trainer".

I'm not sure. I didn't watch this season and just caught a bit from last night, but being that we are snowed in today I've read all about it! I wonder if this will all cause some of the people affiliated with the show to reevaluate?

Oof.
She looks very thin. And something about her arms makes me worried that she lost muscle. My understanding on her backstory was that she was a former competitive athlete. I'm wondering if she gamed her way through it, let her competitive nature rule the day and did everything she could to "win" which is not the same as doing everything she can to get healthy. I hope she was making good choices in her approach once she got home, and I hope she is able to make and maintain a healthy weight now that the cameras are off.
I can only imagine the pressure to know that 1. Thousands of people are waiting to see you walk on stage and show off how much weight you have lost and 2. The more you lose, the better chance you have at winning $250,000.
At that point for me, it would be about winning and scale numbers instead of about being healthy. She obviously is not healthy right now. I'm sure all of the negative media attention is not helping her fragile mental state. I feel bad for her.
I'm kind of surprised that any number of people at the show who had seen her prior to her entrance on stage (during rehearsal? Wardrobe?) didn't say anything that could have made it back to to Bob or Jillian. They were clearly not prepared for what they saw. I have to imagine somebody with the show in some official capacity noticed what she looked like and at least would be inclined to give them a heads up? Or hell, even just a bit of tittering gossip backstage that could have made it to Bob & Jillian? Are they all kept entirely sequestered from the moment they arrive to the studio?
I don't doubt that the 3 finalists are kept sequestered. It's all about that initial reaction. Because it's usually a super positive one.
Yeah, they kind of threw Dolvett under the bus there.
Completely unsurprising. It's been Bob & Jill vs. Dolvette for quite a while.
Did anyone else notice during the last episode (before the finale), when they were doing the look-back videos with each contestant, Bob and Jillian both sat in on the viewing for each of their trainees, but Dolvette did his solo?

Yeah that really bothered me, it should have been all of them or solo all the way around.
Interesting. I just jumped on the BL FB page and saw a comment from Bobby:
"Bobby Saleem - Hey guys it's Bobby! I was joking about my comment about being in the 160s!!! I didn't want to win that badly to destroy myself. I recognize the issues and I will be there for Rachel. She wanted to win and felt threatened by two big guys in the final. She will be fine. I'll make sure of it!!! Love you all!!! Cheers to healthy living!"

I've heard rumors that Dolvette is homophobic, so if that's true, no surprise that he didn't want to sit in a room with Bob and Jillian. Or that they didn't want him in the room with them.

Yeah, that's what I've heard too. Sad. He otherwise seems like a nice guy.
Another Bobby quote. He seems to be the only one talking about this today.
Bobby Saleem - I wanted to place as high as possible. Trust me, I stopped losing weight cause I recognized I look way to thin. I'm 6'2 guys! I'm sad by the finale of the show because it does not how healthy weight whatsoever. We are hard working people. All I ask is to cut Rachel some slack please. I will help her. She's still a very young woman... She wanted to win. She will regain her health. I promise. Love you all. Be healthy!!!!

Exactly.
I about choked reading that it isn't "unhealthy" to go from 150 to 105 in two months. OMFG.
I'm choking reading how many people think she's only 5 lbs underweight because BMI says so and that her arms are toned (not just here).
You know whose body Rachel's looks like now? The Duchess of Cambridge. And if there is anyone whom this board loves, it is the duchess.
I really think this is an almost laughable double standard. Rachel probably sweated out an extra 5 pounds before the finale and didn't eat for the week before. If she gets thinner, then fine, diagnose away. But right now, all we know is she played the game well.
elle, Kate is thin, but toned. Rachel has no muscle tone. You can see it all over her body. I'm not saying she didn't play the game or that she can't come back from this, but let's be realistic. She is not at an ideal body weight now, just as she wasn't when she was obese.
