Has anyone cut down on or cut out coffee creamer? I love a splash of amaretto coffee creamer in my coffee in the morning. After my morning cup I generally switch to water or sparkling water for the rest of the day. I've seen recipes on pinterest for homemade creamers. Do they work? What worked for you?
I have cut back considerably. I started measuring to get a feel for how much I was putting in when I just pour, and cut back gradually from there. It was around 2+ tbsp for a big mug, so then I went to 1 tbsp of creamer + 1 tbsp of milk. Now I'm at just 1 tbsp of creamer (which I prefer to mixing with milk). It's only about 35 calories now for the 1 tbsp so I can live with that.
When I was pregnant, I switched to just half and half and real sugar. I slowly mixed the half and half in with my beloved Coffeemate and over time just added less Coffeemate and more half and half.
Unfortunately, sleep deprivation got the best of me and I caved and started back on creamer - but the TJ's brand. Now I still do half and half with a splash of Coffeemate.
Coffeemate has been the vice I haven't been able to drop for years. Gosh, I know it's awful but it's really my one thing. Every few months I try to stop and I won't buy any, and then I get the creamer shakes and I cave. We have been using the Natural Bliss for a few months, which I *hope* is a bit less awful for me.
I used to use milk in my coffee and now use unsweetened almond milk - 2 tablespoons is roughly 5 calories and it gives me the same creaminess as milk did.
I am no help. I enjoy my baileys coffee creamer a little too much and I would prefer to cut out other stuff than give that up. Helpful huh?!
This is me. I adore the bailey's vanilla brown sugar flavor, and compared to some of the other flavored creamers their ingredients don't seem as scary. I use a dash of flavored along with regular half n half.
What are the reasons for cutting? This determines my suggestions. If it's a calorie thing, you could go the almond milk, or non fat route. If it's an ingredient/chemical thing, try the coffee mate natural bliss. I either do black, or a tblsp of that. It only has 3 or 4 ingredients, 35 calories a tblsp and they're natural. (Milk, cream, sugar.)If it's a dairy thing, I'm back to soy & almond milk. lol
ETA: Just saw kams mentioned the same thing. Seriously, I love the sweet cream flavor. I can't stand other creamers now.

This is me. I even spent all of last year using almond milk, had creamer at a family dinner and got sucked right back in. I get the Natural Bliss when I can find it, and International French Vanilla when I can't. I measure it out, and feel like if there is just one way to "waste" my calories, this is it.
I just use half and half (rather generously, but still) with a little real sugar - I've really been trying to cut out all the low fat and fake stuff as much as possible. Now I'm intrigued by this Coffeemate Natural Bliss though. I do love some vanilla flavor in my coffee.
I used to put an insane amount of creamer in my coffee, I've just gradually cut back a little at a time. Now I put about 1/2 tablespoon in 8oz of coffee, and drink any subsequent cups black.

My reasoning is mostly to cut down on processed sugar and processed foods in general in my diet. I'm not opposed processed foods in moderation, and perhaps this is an area that I should leave in my diet since I enjoy coffee creamer and don't take a ton of it.
I am a coffee addict and used to take my coffee with lots of cream and sweetener. About 4 years ago, I came down with a nasty bout of the flu followed by a stomach bug which left my digestive system tore up. Dairy and citrus absolutely KILLED me for the weeks following, so that's when I initially cut out cream in my coffee. I didn't love the taste at first, but got used to it.
Eventually, I started adding cream back to my coffee. At this time, I was engaged and in the months leading up to my wedding I wanted to drop a few lbs and decided to once again cut out cream. Just like the first time, I got used to it and now I actually prefer my coffee black.
Not sure what my suggestion would be, but going "cold turkey" worked for me.

I just poured a nice cup with caramel macchiato before clicking this link... grrr. Good topic, thanks for posting. I tried drinking my coffee black yesterday...I lasted 2 sips. I am worried about the ingredients and chemicals, so maybe I'll give the natural bliss a try too.
I only ever drink my coffee with half and half, so I'm not much help on the sweetness part. But if I ever want flavor in my coffee, I'll add some spices to the grounds before brewing. I did a mock-gingerbread coffee with cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger during the holidays that was tasty.

This! Unsweetened vanilla almond milk in my coffee = heaven!

Yes! I had an onset of these weird massive headaches that I think now is a tension headache. Anyways...I decided to cut coffee out completely. I'm okay but I do miss the routine of having it in the morning... My headaches have gone for a week now and this morning I decided to have some. But it can be done. It was the routine I missed, not the actual effects of coffee imo

I was going to suggest coffee syrups to give it flavoring without the cream but then saw you are hoping to cut out chemicals. Pretty sure those things have Splenda in them. I keep thinking I should kick the creamer habit, and I will occasionally have a black coffee with just a little sugar mixed in but then I just get sucked right back in.
Currently I am putting a TBSP of organic half and half and a scant tsp. of sugar. I can't figure out how to reduce the sugar any further.
Has anyone ever tried coconut milk in their coffee?
I started using coconut milk back around Halloween when I did the Whole30. I have stuck with it. It took a bit to get used to the no sugar, but I actually prefer it now...those creamers are too sweet for me!
