" You, me and society can not take care of all societies ills. Good intentions aside, there is neither the time of money. The other dangerous side effect of "freebies" from the "state" . Is the growing dependence of more and more persons who decide it's easier to vote for more free handouts. Instead of working. Makes more "poor" people. Great job security for social service employes however. Kids don't have food? How much food would the monthly bills for that smart phone and cable TV purchase? How many meals will one $30 trip to McDonalds purchase vs a $30 trip to the grocery store? Going hungry should be motivation to get off your can and work harder AND work smarter. Kids going hungry? Cure for that is finish high school. And wait until you are at least 21 to be married. And wait until you are married to have children with a man who will stay around. I went to school, studied and worked instead of laying on my back under boys. Take away the single mothers from the "poverty" class and there is hardly anybody left impoverished. It's called being a responsible adult to look after YOUR children. Ticks me off to see how much of my and my husbands paycheques that goes to raise some irresponsible bum's children. Over a grand a week between the two of us gone to government waste."
I'm not gonna lie, though...I really don't want to go back there...I'm not even sure I know how to log in anymore. That is measured against wanting to see people like this get a serious dose of the *real* GBCN.
"Not gonna lie; I kind of keep expecting you to post one day that you threw down on someone who clearly had no idea that today was NOT THEIR DAY." ~dontcallmeshirley

$30 at McD's will get you 15 meals, if you get a Double Cheeseburger and a small fry.
I spent $50 at the grocery store yesterday on things to make lasagna (that I already had the meat for) and meat and cheese for sandwiches for lunch for DH. This will give us 3 meals of lasagna and 4 meals of turkey sandwiches (with no sides).

How high an income bracket do you have to be in to have $2000 per pay period in taxes? How do you know 100% of that tax goes to government waste, or did she take what she thinks isn't waste out of that figure?

Last year DH and I had salary and bonuses of $130k ish, we had an effective tax rate of 16% federal taxes on what wasn't deducted off the top, so maybe we paid $16k in taxes. I suppose if you think all SS, Medicare, and State taxes are waste, you can add another $12k or so to that.
You'd have to be north of $200k in the US and assume that every penny of tax is waste.
Personally I like roads and firemen and schools though.
It sounds like this person is Canadian with pay cheque though.
I love how she goes on about how she did the right thing by finishing school and blah blah blah, but spells Grand Parents and has entire sentences that read: "After having to actually work for something." and "Cure for that is finish high school."
She's a genius that one fer sure. Sigh. I wish I'd stopped myself from going over there.

Exactly and how is a kid who is hungry and having to work supposed to actually study and do well enough to graduate and get a job (likely at minimum wage without a college degree) and support themselves.

Not that high.. .Maybe 100k? (two 50k jobs)
Where, in Canada?!
There's no way we pay that much in taxes (that's $52k per year) and we're at a 25% tax rate, I think. Jeez, we probably pay half that in federal taxes, and state and local certainly don't make up another $25k. I'm guessing you'd be north of $200k to pay $52k per year in ALL taxes combined (and only if you live in a state with income tax). Much more than that to be paying over $50k in just federal income tax.
ETA: If she is in Canada, I'd still be they make well over $100k.

In Ontario, to be paying $500 in taxes each per week they'd each need to be earning about $1,700 per week or $90,000ish per year, for a total of $180,000. If one person makes more money, though, they could be paying the same taxes on less than $180,000.

If you make about $150k and are single and have absolutely no deductions or allowances whatsoever, you'd pay about that.

You guys probably didn't know this, but the best way to get through 8 hours of school every day for 12 years is to be fucking hungry while you do it. Maslow's hierarchy of needs be damned.
"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."
