1) Date/name of your Half! Pittsburgh Half Marathon, May 4, 2014
2) Are you following a training "plan"? Which one and why did you choose it? It is from Women's Health magazine, and I chose it because it only had me running 3 days a week, allowing for my personal favorite training activity - crosstraining. I've modified it slightly, and used SmartCoach to tell me how fast to be running these workouts.
3) What's the longest run you will run as part of your training? 12 miles.
4) What is the farthest you've ever run? 6.2 miles. I've got some work to do!

1) Date/name of your Half! May 4 - Frederick Running Fest
2) Are you following a training "plan"? Which one and why did you choose it? Hal Higdon Novice 2 - I'd been increasing mileage over the fall/winter and felt that I could handle this one over Novice 1. But it doesn't add miles to quickly. I also like that it goes up to 12 miles on the long runs.
3) What's the longest run you will run as part of your training? 12 miles!
4) What is the farthest you've ever run? 8.96 miles on a Saturday long run a few weeks ago. In a race, 10k this past Sunday!
1) Date/name of your Half! April 27 - Nike Womens DC
2) Are you following a training "plan"? Which one and why did you choose it? For the most part, a combination of the Nike plan and the Hal Higdon Novice 1. They are pretty equal but Nike adds miles quicker, so if I don't get all of them in I don't feel terrible since HH doesn't go as far.
3) What's the longest run you will run as part of your training? 13 miles!
4) What is the farthest you've ever run? 5 miles so far, supposed to do 6 this weekend!
2) Are you following a training "plan"? Which one and why did you choose it? I'm using the Smartcoach training plan. I chose it based on recommendations of some friends.
3) What's the longest run you will run as part of your training? Officially 13 miles, but I'll probably go 14 since a running buddy is using the Nike Plus app and I let her dictate our long runs.

1) Date/name of your Half! 3/16 Shamrock Half Marathon - Va Beach
2) Are you following a training "plan"? Which one and why did you choose it? I am a member of a local running group - our coach gives us our plan. I am loosely following it
3) What's the longest run you will run as part of your training? 12 miles
4) What is the farthest you've ever run? 13.21 miles
Gooood morning, ladies (or good night, as we're one hour away from Thursday here in China!)! Tell us about your half training! Did you take a slow boat to China?
Sho' did! Here for work - got in last night. Jet lag's a bitch, though, I went to bed at 1am and woke up at 3:30am, starving. It's great for early morning gym runs, though! No outside running with shitty air quality. We're coming up on midnight so I should try to get more than a couple hours of sleep tonight!

FWIW, I looked at the Nike training plans and I think they're bullshit. There's minimal rhyme or reason to their mileage rampup, weeks without XT or strength sessions, and I"m sorry but I"m not running 10mi in the middle of the week for the intermediate training plan.
Yeah I don't love the plan, I'm following the HH one more but it only has me run 10 miles once before race, for my mind not to be a mess I need to be within at least 1 1/2 miles of 13.1 on my long run. I don't beat myself up over missing Nike's mileage marks but HH is my requirement for mileage. I'll probably just modify a few of the runs on HH to give me at least an 11.5 - 12 run.

1) Date/name of your Half! Rock N Roll DC, 3/15
2) Are you following a training "plan"? Which one and why did you choose it? No real training plan. I'm totally half-assing my "training" and this race is basically going to be a fun run, because I've been doing the bare minimum.
3) What's the longest run you will run as part of your training? I have a 14 miler planned in 2 weeks.
4) What is the farthest you've ever run? Officially, 26.2 miles. Unofficially, I think it was more like 26.6 miles.
1) Date/name of your Half! Indy Women's Half (6/7)
2) Are you following a training "plan"? Which one and why did you choose it? I'm following a plan from CoachJenny.com I actually found it through Pinterest and liked the way the cross-training vs. mid-week vs long-run days were structured.
3) What's the longest run you will run as part of your training? 14 miles - 3 weeks out from race day.
4) What is the farthest you've ever run? Marathon distance (many years ago though!)

1) Date/name of your Half: Yuengling Shamrock 1/2 on 3/16/14
2) Are you following a training "plan"? Which one and why did you choose it? I started out with a HH plan, but then switched to the FIRST plan, but that's not really panning out with this weather, so I'm just kind of winging it at this point!
3) What's the longest run you will run as part of your training? 12mi
4) What is the farthest you've ever run? 16.3mi (Metric Marathon 26.2K)
I am totally over running at this point...I don't know if it's the weather or what, but they just released the medal designs for Shamrock and now I'm super excited. I did the Dolphin Challenge last year and it was just a pin, but this year, they actually added a medal! It's sad that I'm all about the bling
2) Are you following a training "plan"? Which one and why did you choose it? I'm following a modified version of Hal Higdon's intermediate plan. I cut it down from 12 to 8. I used the Hal novice I for my first half and loved it.
3) What's the longest run you will run as part of your training? Probably no more than 11.5. I've been hovering around 10 for a few weeks and want to give myself a chance to recover by half day.
4) What is the farthest you've ever run? I've done one half in Oct 2011
2) HH Novice 2... sorta. I mixed in 4 other races during training so I couldn't follow it exactly, and also referred to HH's 15k plan to prepare for my first one (this Saturday) and I used his plan to increase my 5k times so overall I like him. I will probably try something different for my second half in September.

I am so excited about the medals. After the half, I think I am going to walk around with my three medals, wrapped in my beach towel and drink lots of beers.
Maybe March 8th??? Chambersburg Half. Anyone run it before? I'm trying to decide b/w a half, 10k, or 5k. The half is challenging and hilly, and the other two are flat, but I kind of want to do the half.
2) Are you following a training "plan"? Which one and why did you choose it? Modified HH Intermediate plan, I added more mileage. I like HH plans for their simplicity
3) What's the longest run you will run as part of your training? 13 miles
4) What is the farthest you've ever run? 26.2 miles once!

:Y: Hopefully it will be slightly less frigid this year! It was SO cold at the finish last year...even the nice blankets they gave out as the finisher item were not enough to keep us warm!
ETA: G22, naeljun, taratru, are you ready to rumble this weekend? As ready as I'll ever be, I guess!
Gooood morning, ladies (or good night, as we're one hour away from Thursday here in China!)! Tell us about your half training!
1) Date/name of your Half! Princess Half, this Sunday!
2) Are you following a training "plan"? Which one and why did you choose it? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA! nope.I'm following the "hey, I've been working out and running like, oh, 3 or 4 miles at a time, so a half should be fine, since it's low altitude" plan. I haven't even been going to spin. Or any other cardio. This one's going to hurt.
3) What's the longest run you will run as part of your training? I ran 7 miles on Sunday.
4) What is the farthest you've ever run? 26.4 as part of the Colorado Marathon.
2) I'm following an app called 21k; I used the same developer's C210k and liked it. I like that it has you get to higher mileage around the middle of the training plan, then drop a few miles and increase the mid week mileage a tiny bit. I tend to run a little more than the plan, though.
3) plan goes to 12
4) longest ever is my first half, which ended up at 13.2. Longest so far this cycle is 10.
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.
B&A half 3/30 I'm not really following a plan. I'm just trying to get my mileage up and throw in a few speed sessions. It's been hard to follow a plan with being back to work, the weather, etc. I know excuses excuses. I would like to get up to 15 miles Here's a good workout if you are stuck on the TM 6 miles broken up like this: 2 miles, then 5 min of drills (high knees, butt kicks, grapevines, burpees, jump rope, box jumps),2 miles, 5 min drills, 2 miles, 5 min drills. I kicked my own ass with that on Monday!
4) What is the farthest you've ever run? 26.5 miles- Chicago Marathon. Tangents aren't so easy on that course.
I'd say you did a pretty damn good job with the tangents. I ran 26.7 and I was actually paying attention. I probably logged close to 27 at NYCM because I was paying zero attention.
May 4th; Pittsburgh Half. (I also signed up for a Fall Half, Sept. 7th; the Chicago Half)
2) Are you following a training "plan"? Which one and why did you choose it?
Can't remember the exact name of the plan but it's an 18 week plan and I actually just modified it last week to 3 runs and 2 CT days/week. Putting a heavier emphasis on CT this time around.
3) What's the longest run you will run as part of your training?
1) Date/name of your Half! Snow Joke Half - Saturday!
2) Are you following a training "plan"? Which one and why did you choose it? I kind of made my own up. Since I decided 4 weeks before to do it, I'm just winging it with a homemade plan.
3) What's the longest run you will run as part of your training? 10 miles
4) What is the farthest you've ever run? 26.2-ish at the Air Force Marathon

I may have sent a nasty letter to Nike telling them that their training plans are crap. I think their beginner plans had too many miles, especially race week. The wrote me back and suggested I could switch out one week for cross training. Um, thanks, I'm not using your plans, I just hope first time 1/2ers don't get injured because of all the miles y'all suggest they run.

1) Date/name of your Half! Pittsburgh Half 5/4
2) Are you following a training "plan"? Which one and why did you choose it? Yes, following a Jeff Galloway plan
3) What's the longest run you will run as part of your training? 20 miles (the plan actually calls for 19 miles but I am doing a 20 mile race this day)
4) What is the farthest you've ever run? 13.4 miles (so yes #3 is going to be interesting)
