I'm not a regular on this board (stupid job!) but I love heavy lifting. Depending on what I'm doing, it is sometimes my main workout. I just signed up for my first tri so lifting is taking a backseat for now!
I stumbled onto this board when I was training for a half marathon and have never posted. Anyway, heavy lifting is my primary and pretty much only form of training for close to a year. I have seen great results in both weight loss and strength gains.

I do NROLFW. I only run for 15 minutes when HIIT is part of the workout. I would like to try running more when I finish, but I don't think I'll ever consider myself a runner.
And really, yes we have a lot of runners, but we have a lot of non-runners too. Running is just more popular than other activities, and very easily accessible to most which is why we have a heavy concentration of 'em. Doesn't mean you can't come hang out with us!
Speaking of heavy lifting, we're doing a deload week at my box this week, not much lifting, in preparation for next week, which we will be doing 1-rep-max for all of the oly lifts. I'm super excited!

Yay! I started doing 1 set, 10 rep lifting. I'm working on strengthening my legs to handle squats better (bad knees) and focusing on form. I'm excited as I'm starting to see results - today's victory was seeing my shoulder muscles "pop" when doing bicep curls.
I spent 2 years long distance running. I did 5 half marathons over that time period. Then I did nothing for 6 months. I just started week 5 of lifting, though I'm not sure I'd call it heavy lifting at this point . I lift 3 times a week and do a HIIT run 2 times a week. I am really enjoying it.

Another Crossfitter who likes lifting checking in. I actually just bought oly shoes while I was in the US, they get broken in tomorrow! It's evaluation week at my box, so we're doing 1 rep max for deadlift and back squat tomorrow...I have VERY low expectations for my numbers since I was just gone for a month and now have a cold, but at least I'll look good

I love my delts. I call them my "Mikes" after the trainer who helped make them.
I love heavy lifting. I'm doing NROL for Life, but I highly, HIGHLY recommend NROL for Abs. Totally changed me. I am still surprised sometimes at how strong my core is after doing that book.

I used to lift. I weep for my former child free, shit load of free time life. Every day I debate whether or not I should go to the gym after she goes to bed.. then i get in bed and go to sleep. ^o)

Do body weight at home! My fav workout is from Nerd Fitness...seriously good and kicks tushy.

It's hard work, but it's good work. I really recommend going through the book and then going back to your first workout from and to see how much easier those moves were when you first started.
For example, a 60 second plank when I started? NEWP. MAYBE sometimes, but never 2 in a row. Now, I can do 30 seconds one handed in the push up position and 30 seconds on the other hand. Even Alwyn says that's badass.

I lift heavy. I was focused on benching my body weight, but I got that. Now my focus is on a set of 10 pull ups.
That is awesome! I am no where near bench pressing my body weight but I can dead lift twice my body weight
Thank you! It took a long time, but I finally pressed #170... once.
I've had several back surgeries so I can't DL or squat; all of my leg-work is uni-lateral so as to avoid loading my spine. Bench press and pull ups are all I've got
I'm with gpw on NROLA. It's a phenomenal program - much better than NROLW IMO. It strengthens your core through combination lifting, so I think the title of it is misleading. After Abs, move to NROL Supercharged. It has been a lot of fun to create my own workouts...sometimes I think I make them unnecessarily difficult. Also don't forget to use the easy-peezy workout logs at werkit.com
I have taken time off lifting to focus on ballet (turns out that squats don't help with plies). I am going to start lifting again this summer while I'm on break from ballet. I'm excited to get back to it. I'm up for more chatter on heavy lifting.

I'm just going to put my mini-AW here: I've been off for a month due to injury, during which time literally all I did was up to 20 min of bike or elliptical and shoulder PT exercises. Plus I've had a bad cold since Friday and am still feeling pretty wiped out. In our quarterly evaluation today I got 2 kg more on my back squat and 1.5 kg more on my dead lift compared to March. Small victories!

also, some runners are also into heavy lifting. they are not mutually exclusive.
i don't lift much now but i trained for a figure competition before i had kids. i just could not pose for the life of me.
when i do lift, i lift heavy. i have no time for high reps!
