If you had a growth ultrasound

late in your pregnancy, how accurate was it for weight and size? Did it seem to over or under estimate those factors when you actually delivered?

I had one the day before I delivered, and it was within an ounce. It was a high risk ultrasound though, not just a regular one, not sure how much difference that would make.

For me, it was very accurate. At about 36 weeks with my last pregnancy they estimated he was 7lb3oz, and that he'd gain about .5 lbs a week. I delivered him at 41w exactly and he was 9lb10oz.

These ultrasound estimates can vary wildly though.

This really depends on the skill of the person doing the ultrasound. We had one that was always on the money, and one that tended to be way off.

I had one at 38 weeks and again 40 weeks they said he was approx 8.3 at 38 weeks and approx 8.8lbs at 40 weeks. I delivered at 40 weeks 4 days and he was 9lbs 13oz vaginal so they were off by over a pound if they would of known his size I would of had to have a csection so I'm actually glad they didn't know he was so big.

I had one at 38 weeks that was over a pound off on the birth weight estimate. (It was too low, the baby was huge.)

Way off. Had one at 38 weeks. Said DS was 7lbs 5 oz. He was born at 39 weeks and was 5lbs 14oz.

They overestimated for both my kids. The first by about half a pound. The second it was by over a pound.

I had growth ultrasounds weekly from about 34 weeks with my 3rd. It may have been earlier though, like 31, now that I think about it. Anyway, they were estimating 4 and 5lbs, but when she was born at 38 weeks she was 6lbs. So, not so accurate for me.
ETA: she was frank breach, I wonder if this had anything to do with the inaccuracy?

I had one at 36 weeks that was pretty accurate. At that time, they said she was measuring 39.5 weeks and weight estimate was almost 8 lbs. I had her at 39 weeks, and she was 9 lbs, 1 oz

Had one and it overestimated her weight by a lb.
It was a week prior and she was predicted 7.10 and a week later she was delivered and was 6.8

They predicted D would be around 9.5 lbs. She was 7.5 lbs.

Mine was fairly accurate, I think. I had one at 37w+ (on a Thursday) and he was estimated to be 6lb 8oz, and he was born the following Tuesday at 38w exactly and was 6lb 14 oz.

Mine was accurate to the ounce.

And I went to the accurate one this time, she told me 6 lb 4 oz the morning I was in labor,and she was 6 lb 3 oz eight hours later.

With addy they thought she was measuring small, and guessed 6 and a half pounds. She was an ounce shy of eight.

Not accurate at all for me. At 38 weeks they predicted a 9lb baby. I was induced at 39 weeks and DD was 7lb 6oz.

It was over for me. At 36w they said she was 7lb10oz but she was born 40w at 7lb6oz. So not by much but I'm sure she grew some in 4 weeks

They thought around 35 weeks that he was around 6 pounds. He was born at 37 weeks at 4 pounds, 4 oz.

I was high risk and had one 3 days before my planned c. Scan said 7lbs, he was 8 lbs. my doc apologized.

I had one at 33 weeks and they estimated DS' size was going to be over 10 lbs at birth, he was 8 lb 10 oz, but did and still does have a gigantic head, so I think that skewed the measurements.

It was within about 5 ounces of delivery weight. I had the US at 32 weeks and delivered at 39

I had one at 37 weeks because I was measuring small. DS was born 2 days later and was just over a pound bigger than they estimated.

A friend of mine had one at MFM when she was 38 weeks, and they estimated 5lbs 8oz. He was born at 40+3 at 6lbs 2oz, so they really weren't far off at all.

I was high risk so I had a bunch of ultrasounds, and two days before my due date the tech guessed she'd be in "the high 7lb range" at birth - she was 7lbs 10oz.

it was almost exact. a few days before my induction at 41w2d they said 7lb, and she was 7lb 9oz.

This is helpful info, thank you. On Friday at 36 wks they said baby is pretty small and 2 wks behind at 4.14lbs and I'm going for weekly u/s checks now. But I'm a petite person so it's possible baby will just be little.

I did not but my SIL did. They estimated a 10+ lb baby. He was 8 lbs 9 oz. We used the same OB office, a doctor felt my belly during an exam and estimated 6.5 - 7 lbs and he was 9 lbs 2 oz.

At 35w4 days they estimated them to be 3 pounds 4 ounces and 3 pounds 8 ounces.
They were born at 36w1d at 5 pounds 7 ounces and 4 pounds 10 ounces.
