Ugh. 9/11 conspiracy theorists are comparing this plane crash to what happened in the U.S. saying seeing today's photos are "proof" there weren't crashes in the U.S.
Also, apparently there was a woman with her baby who missed the flight. I got the chills watching her interview.
Also, in retrospect given this news, why haven't the state departments and ministries of most countries recommended rerouting of flights over that space:

They did. Most planes were avoiding that airspace. We don't know why MH17 didn't avoid it.
CNN said cost.
Hmmm I could have sworn I saw on Anderson Cooper that planes were still flying over that area, and then TTT or someone posted the pic of planes diverting quickly today.
Today I learned that Jason Biggs's wife "bought" them a prostitute for a birthday threesome, so yeah.
Say what now?
Yep. He also just went off on some late night show about how he is as entitled to his wife's breastmilk as their son. And when their son was born, they introduced him by saying his name and that "he has a huge penis".
They are awesome, klassy people. Unfortunately they are getting a lot of attention right now because she is promoting a book and he is on OITNB. I hope it ends soon.

Pardon my ignorance/innocence, but does it seem strange to anyone else that so many graphic pictures that include bodies are being published? In past tragedies it seems that showing bodies/body parts was frowned upon, but even just on buzzfeed the bodies are there for everyone to see with the click of a screen. In the NY Times article it said that journalist were encouraged to take pictures. It worries me for a reason I can't quite figure out yet. I don't think "propaganda" is the correct term, but I'm just really worrying about how this will be handled internationally.

I'm trying to remember how this conversation has went before. I think it boils down to, here in the US we are extremely sheltered in what the news publishes, as far as graphic images. That in other parts of the world more graphic images in the news is the norm.

He's just trying to stay relevant since he has no actual talent.

The loss of life was already a clear tragedy, but the fact that f*cking fighting resulted in the deaths of those working to save potentially millions of lives now and in the future is just the worst kind of irony.
BBC had reported that planes from the States weren't flying over there before this tragedy because the FAA told them not to. This wasn't a warning given internationally and lots of international carriers from other countries were frequently flying over before this tragedy

Yes. I learned this the hard way soon after I started getting into drug policy stuff a few years ago.

I posted an article about this up thread - the main reason the FAA didn't let American planes fly there is because there is uncertainty over whose air traffic control is controlling that space and how good a job they're doing of that. Which is obviously important but I don't think anybody really thought someone would actually shoot down a passenger jet. Because why TF would you do that???

I wonder if OItNB will dump him, a la Gilbert Godfried with AFLAC and Fukashima tweets.

After reading the article on he black boxes I am wondering if these are images the rebels want to be released and the only ones they are allowing. Do we know if the rebel leaders approved all the images we are currently seeing?

Also call me crazy but I REFUSE TO BELIEVE its pure coincidence MH has two strange issues this year all after Russia and Ukraine started beefing. I think they are being targeted because shooting down a plane from the US, France, Germany, England, etc. would cause WW3. I think there is an epic dick measuring contest going on in the background and they shot down that airliner to be like " WE MEAN BIDNESS!" I mean Obama was on the phone with Putin when everyone got word of this incident? Come on now.
So, realistically, how scared should we be? I'm having some major anxiety, but I'm also not particularly savvy in foreign relations.
We don't have enough information to warrant major anxiety and you cannot go through life worrying about what you don't know and can't control. Be aware but don't allow yourself to be paralyzed.

Yeah I read that yesterday . The FAA has prohibited airlines from flying over that space for the past three months to avoid the potential (real potential) for misidentification of a commercial airliner as non commercial. It's happened before.
So, realistically, how scared should we be? I'm having some major anxiety, but I'm also not particularly savvy in foreign relations.
Well, the USSR actually shot down a passenger jet with a sitting US Congressman on board during the Cold War and we didn't go to war, so hopefully cooler heads will prevail this time too.
I don't think you need to panic just yet. Unless you actually live in Ukraine.
