There aren't enough glitches; it makes me uncomfortable. All the fast load times, ability to post pictures/videos, sorting, being able to see all my own posts...I dont know, it all seems awfully different and I DONT LIKE CHANGE.

From what I read yesterday the ads will start soon. I guess you get two weeks add free then they'll be here.
I agree with V to a certain extent - I don't think we should have a ton of subboards, but I do really like the @ board because I feel free to ask more kid related questions than I have in the past without pissing anyone off.
Mine: I don't like the idea of the proliferation of sub-boards, and I think they should be carefully considered.
My primary reason is that while a Money Matters board can be helpful certainly, I have fun here because of all of the off-topic threads. Even ones that don't apply to me can be fun if they lead to flame wars, and maybe I will have something to contribute after all. If makeup threads stay in the makeup forum, we'll probably miss out on the "My skin is perfect so I don't need foundation" and "Only an idiot would spend more than $3 a year on makeup" responses which can lead to fun, because the people who post those kinds of things aren't checking out the MM Makeup sub-board. Also, I'll also be sad if I miss out on entertaining threads because I don't frequent the MM Ugly Shoes or MM Yarn or MM Complaints About the Cost of Bringing My 12 Children to Morocco sub-boards. If the Bear Riding a Bear post had been on an @ sub-board, I wouldn't have seen it! That's a tragedy!
So I like the idea of keeping the off-topic posts (even the @ ones, which never apply to me) on the main board.
My first instinct when someone else St. Jess requested a makeup subboard last week was the same as yours. But it's been a popular request--so that's why I went with it. I think the MM Moms board is a huge positive improvement as well.
But I agree that I wouldn't want more than 3-4 subboards because it hurts the main community.
I think the boards look like a throwback to to message boards from a decade ago. Plus they definitely look like a message board, so I don't know why people think they look "more like work." The Nest just looked like comments on an article, but this seems plainly obvious to me about what it is.
i'll second v. i like the variety on the main page.
however i wouldn't take back the mom or make-up boards - those are things this community voted for on tn, they aren't new things we suddenly wanted as a means of fracturing the community.
I think other the trainwrecky newbs, I will miss the occasional unintentional hilarity of corporate sponsorship. Glorious posts such as "Win a Sexathon" may never happen again.

But if we're going to have only 3-4 subboards, and we're already at 3, isn't makeup oddly specific? (Particularly considering that it is not a money-related topic, there's a Beauty & Style board already, and that there's some kind of MM posters who like makeup google thing?) I know that some people here like makeup, but people here also like clothes and shoes and non-makeup beauty products and cat pictures and complaining about being lawyers and house-buying and yarn and all of that so any of those could have been subboards too. You know?
Not trying to be difficult, but I'm just concerned about what segmentation will do to the tone of the main board.
I thought couponing was an odd sub board too, since we don't really get that many posts about couponing (do we? Maybe I just don't read them?)
As usual, I agree with +v+ on pretty much all her points. And I like hearing from the moms. Not about poop or pee sticks, but stories and questions about their kids, for sure. I have learned so much about children and child raising from this board, and even if I never have kids that is helpful in being a friend/sister to people who do have them.

This is how I feel about it. Makeup & baby talk were the two most complained about off-topics on our board. Just like a group of MM moms don't want to go to the bump to talk with the crazies, a group of makeup lovers on MM prefer to get advice & have discussions with other MMers instead of F&B as a whole.
I do hope the board doesn't become too splintered with sub-boards, but these two have been mentioned many times over the last couple years, so they don't seem too random.

I agree.
I would hate to see the board get so subdivided into NMMR topics that the main board is actually about money matters.
Also, I am still concerned that this will get boring after the novelty wears off since we have no vehicle for fresh meat.

agreed. People were up in arms over us posting makeup all the time, so we created a google group. Having a subboard will allow those not in the google group to talk makeup with us without pissing off the rest of the board.
and the beauty board is lame.
But I also agree that we shouldnt have too many subboards. I'm satisfied with what we have.
I love the idea of the Mom board. I admit to lurking there, and I think it's so nice for the MM Moms who are friends to be able to ask each other opinions without having to go talk to strangers or weirdos on the bump.
I have no opinion on the makeup board. It doesn't bother me or thrill me.

Did Fashion and Beauty not make it's way over? I thought they renamed it something really dumb, but I don't see it to the left.
When I'm not logged in and I view the MM board, I only see MM posts, but when I am logged in, I see all the MM Moms and MM Makeup posts on the MM Board. Weird.
ETA: never mind, I see that it is not Beauty and Style!
I like the makeup spin off because the posts are easier to find. The baby board is eh to me, because my kid is so much older than everyone else's. I'd like to have a board for older kids, but that would be too splintered, so I don't think that would work.
I still think we will get the nutso replies even on those sub-boards, it's just that someone will have to point it out now!
i think the coupon board is more random than moms or make-up. of all things to keep on the main page, couponing should be it!
Coupons actually sort of makes sense as a subboard (or as its own board), at least if it is like the one from TN. Did you ever go to TN coupon board? It was a listing of coupons and sales, no discussion really. Which was helpful when you wanted a coupon for x. But I'd be annoyed if every time Gap has a 15% off code, someone posts it on the MM board. There are a lot of Gap stores, and a lot of stores that aren't Gap.
i never visited the coupon board on tn. i checked this one the other day and it seemed more about how to use coupons and where to get them which can be useful info for lots, but if it's going to be a constant stream of coupon codes, then yes, keep it separate.
When I'm not logged in and I view the MM board, I only see MM posts, but when I am logged in, I see all the MM Moms and MM Makeup posts on the MM Board. Weird.
This is a setting you can change in your profile. It's under 'expand sub-boards'.
