Can we do randoms today? I'm still crippled so don't have much to add inthe H&F camp.
Went to the doctor this morning. She said I'm done with the boot (huzzah!) and now have a much lower profile ankle brace for the next few weeks. I can even wear shoes again! It's so strange though... I feel like I have to learn to walk all over again! I am all sorts of limping today trying to figure it out and gain confidence in using my ankle. I'll also be starting PT to help with that.
That boot was helping my ankle but sending everything else out of whack. I had left hip flexor tightness/pain and my right foot has been cramping/seizing up in pilates class, even though it is the LEFT ankle that is hurt!
In other news my birthday was on Saturday (13th) and I had an awesome weekend! We went to Cirque de Soleil and a piano bar, and then I went out for my friend's bachelorette on Saturday night. One of the highlights of the night was this guy coming up to me as we were leaving the bar and saying, "I saw you rocking it out out there with that boot on! I support that!" Hilarious. And then yesterday we went to the Redskins game (where they whalloped the Jaguars) and dinner at my favorite pizza place. Great, great weekend!
I'm doing a free one-hour trial session of some new fascia stretching massage something or another. Not sure what to expect, but I'm pretty excited about it.
Also, I have my fireplace on today because it's so frickin' cold in my loft (where I work). Stupid crazy weather!
I woke up with the worst headache this AM. Not a good start to a Monday.
L cracks me up. We went to play on this little greenspace area on our street yesterday morning before lunch. By "play," I mean that I usually just sit there and try to catch her if she tries to bolt for the street for about 20 minutes. But yesterday she was not having it. Mom had to play WITH her! She made up this little game where she would jump from the mulch under the trees onto the grass (like a quarter of an inch - LOL). She grabbed my arm and said "Come on, Mommy! Come on!" I am sure that I looked like a total fool, but it was fun
I am really hoping that I don't get rained on during my run today. It has been so freaking rainy!!!

The internet in our office really sucks today. Don't they know I need to catch up on the interwebz on Monday mornings??
We got some very disappointing news about a job DH interviewed for last week. It was in the perfect place and a really exciting opportunity for him, and in our minds we were already packed up and putting the house on the market. I feel bad for us, and really bad for him, since this is the third job he's been rejected for in the last month or so. I don't understand how they could say no already when he was the first person they had talked to.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the chiro will let me start running or at least walking today. 9 weeks until a half marathon that I haven't even begun to train for. Yay.

NHFR: DH is OOT for work all this week. DD1 has a project due on Wednesday that we haven't even started on yet and really should work on, but instead I'm taking the girls to a drop-in childcare place (that they love) this afternoon so I can have a break from single parenting. It'll eventually get done, right?
HFR: Today was my first official day of training for my 10K. I can already cover the distance and then some, but I'm following an aggressive (for me) Pfitz plan that includes lots of tempo runs and speedwork in hopes of breaking 50:00 (my PR is 50:34). Today felt great, and it will only cool off from here on out, so yay!
I started feeling sick a week ago, but ignored it since it was my last week of heavy training for my tri and DH was gone. I had a full blown cold by Saturday and spent most of Sunday in bed reading and watching tv. I'm feeling much better today, but am skipping my workout anyway. I have to be 100% by Saturday for my tri!

I know I'm not supposed reward myself with food, but intend to polish off an entire jar of cookie butter by myself after my 20 mile run on Saturday.
ETA: I'll add mine!
My hunger is all over the place lately and raging after yesterday's 18 miler. I did not bring nearly enough food today. I forgot my yogurt at home and it's all been downhill from there. I just went & stole a box of granola bars from their secret hiding place in our training building, and brought them over to marketing. LOl Not sorry.
I think my chiropractor has figured out the cause of my 6 days of headaches that I have going on. Damn nerves at the base of my head are being pinched from looking up while teaching class. Blargh!

I need to start running outside because I am clearly faster outside than on the treadmill. On the treadmill I range between 12:45-13:20 miles per minute, yet outside I can go 12 minute miles without overly exerting myself. Also I wish I could channel my stress and work it out while running, but instead I'm too far into my head to concentrate on running and then I get discouraged.
NH&F - There was a conversation with DS's pedi(see above stress comment) that if this cold virus spreading across the US is confirmed in DS's school he may need to be pulled out because he is both immune compromised and asthmatic. It hasn't been confirmed in Mass yet, but his pedi feels its only a matter of time:(
Actual lol! Isn't it a thing that you aren't supposed reward yourself with food for meeting goals? No matter because I'm constantly stuffing my face.
I'm sure that's the look DS will give me when I tell him that he can't have any cookie butter.
Oh, yeah. I'm pretty sure you're correct. Someone has said that somewhere, yes. I just call BS. LOL Especially after a 20 miler, when you eat healthy the majority of the time. Food is basically the best (lets be honest, the only) reward in that situation.

I'm having the opposite problem. It's so weird! When I am in normal run 3-4mi 3x/week mode I eat 2 hard boiled eggs, a banana, and a yogurt for breakfast. The last 3 weeks since I hurt my ankle and have been doing zero cardio I eat the eggs and then forget about the rest in my work bag! At least a few times I have picked up my tote at the end of the day to find a smashed banana and a melted yogurt still there. This is not me!! I never forget to eat! Miss you, runger. Come back soon. xoxo
I'm still debating whether I want to register for the half or the full for Kiawah. I'm leaning towards full, which is probably a little silly and crazy. I can take a second shot at Boston if it doesn't happen or I can improve my time possibly.
I really, really wish there was a way I could register for the full and drop down and not pay $35. Most races I've seen let you drop down for free.

Decisions, decisions...
What happens if you decide morning-of to drop down? I feel like we had a friend do that the last time we ran kiawah and she just completed one loop and finished w/the halfers (this was when the race was two loops).
Could you ask at the expo about deciding last minute & see if they'll just let you do it, morning of?

I have no idea. I was just looking on the website and it says race change costs $35 beforehand, and $45 within the last few days.

I'd probably just live on the edge and save the $35 bucks. Mr. GT dropped down from the full to the half at RnR DC and didn't tell anyone. They recorded his results as a half even though he accidently ran over one of the full timing mats when we ran back to the car.

I just survived the most insane weekend ever. Birthday party for youngest DD Saturday AM, homecoming for both older DD's Saturday night and 30 people at my house for oldest DD's 16th birthday dinner Sunday night. All with a hubby who cannot walk or drive to help.
My fitbit said I walked 14.5 miles yesterday and 30k steps. Only 6 of those were my run. The rest was yard work, cleaning and cooking.

Because I know you're all dying for an update, I got 2.5 hours to myself while they played at the childcare place, then DD1 and I knocked out the project and have it ready to turn in a day early. Woo!

Does the full sell out? If not, can you sign up for the half and then change to the full if you want? Then you're paying more to get a longer race, which seems more palatable.
Lots and lots of hugs. Come for a weekend in Austin if you ever have time and feel like it. We can run and eat and drink...and I'll also leave you the hell alone if you just want a place to hang for a while.
runaways, I'm so so sorry. Is this a recent decision? I know you've mentioned before that you guys were dealing with/working through stuff. Mutual or not, that's such a difficult thing. I'm glad you're able to get away for a bit. ((Hugs))
ETA: Fuck. Somehow I missed the grandma part the first time. I'm so sorry, sweetie.
