As you may remember, I'm the girl that got held up at the border while taking a bus to meet a man I met online (etc...).
Well today I went to buffalo to go shopping with my mom. It took us 2.5 hours to cross the border because the guards made us wait an hour before questioning me AGAIN about the incident with the man and his cabin.
This is so weird! I never commented but followed the whole "cross the border" debacle last time. I've traveled to several countries and was never given a second glance. Perhaps you dodged a bullet there?
Do you have a common name? H has a common Spanish name and was taken into an interrogation room once at the airport in Chicago (at Customs) due to his name being on a watch list. He asked for it to be taken off, did some paperwork, etc and now he has no problems coming to the US.
I think my name must have something on it because when I leave the US to come back to Switzerland I always must show my Swiss residency card to the agents at check in (in the US). I've never been asked for anything like this before I moved out of the country. It's strange.
ETA: H is not American, He's Swiss/Argentine. I'm American.
Didn't see the part about cabin man. There's something for sure next to your name when your passport is scanned. But maybe it is cabin man that is the problem...
Yeah, you will probably have this for a while. How was Buffalo?
Buffalo was fun! My mom bought 50 Shades. :-| She said she hoped the border guard asked her what she bought in the States so she could say porn. Dear God.

I didn't ask them questions because I didn't want to make us wait any longer than we already had been. They asked if he actually existed because they couldn't find him in the system. They wanted to know if I was actually going to visit someone or if I made it up. This surprised me, because if you recall, the border guard in Detroit said they looked him up and he was "fired" not "laid off". Anyway, my mom knew about the guy I was going to visit and didn't really say anything.
Who's cabin guy? Did I miss something? I missed something. Fill me in? ;D please? ;D I will give you free cupcakes!
Anyway- sometimes the guards are just jerks and the pull you over/question you because the can. I remember living on the boarder and being with my dad when he would "smuggle" over mini-bottles of alcohol for Christmas stocking stuffers. I was always paranoid and thought we both be arrested. ;D

This isn't the original, but where most of it went down.

I'm confused about this whole story, too. I tried reading the original post and it just doesn't make sense. As a fellow Border Patrol agent, I have no idea why a fellow agent would (a) have knowledge about whether or not this guy got fired and (b) he would certainly not tell you any of that information. You can easily get fired for something like that. Of course, there are some crooked agents out there.
You can't just say "Yes." and leave it at that! I thought he sent you a jerky email after you couldn't leave Canada? Thought you were making it up or something, right? Why would you keep talking to him? Are you going to keep talking to him now? What did he say about the whole getting stopped again?
I've been talking to him for 2 years, it's been hard to just stop. We haven't been talking nearly as much, and only online chat (vs skype). He did send me a jerky email and later apologized for how rude it was, but he was still wary about the whole situation.

Boo! Sorry to hear about the not so awesome experience trying to cross again
In all honesty, they probably thought you were making up the story on your previous trip to meet the guy, and then because they were wary of the story they have flagged you as someone to be questioned/watched.
I don't find it to be all that strange, having lived close to the border I heard crazy stories all the time.
