;D
I've decided I'm going to go for the CMP qualification (Certified Meeting Professional) and I was fine for the professional half of the application, but I needed 25 hours of continuing education within the last two years. I have some, through work training, but not enough.
So, a very nice university in Philadelphia offers a really good adult/continuing education program (mostly non-credit) and this fall they are offering 6 mini-courses in Professional Meeting Planning. If you take all 6 it's only $825 and that would give me 38 hours and a Certificate in Professional Meeting Planning. It will basically fill up all of my Tuesday evenings this fall as well as one Saturday. I'm very excited.
I'll complete the application once I have 25 hours and hopefully get approved to take the exam this winter!
What kind of education is involved in that? Is it purely practical application type things, or what?
My guess is that it's 75% practical (latest developments and techniques in AV presentation) and 25% theory (what makes a successful meeting?)
The courses are: Fundamentals of Meeting Planning, 9 hours; Site Inspection and Selection, 5H; Budgeting Tool Kit, 6H; Tech and AV for the Meeting Professional, 6H; Food and Beverage, 6H; and Contract Negotiations, 6H.
That is awesome. I don't work in a normal office environment so I don't do a lot of meetings. Would your job opportunites after you are done be to work as a consultant or for a big corp? It sounds like a wonderful change!
That's wonderful! Enjoy the program! You are really kicking ass, I recall you being down and concerned. Now you have your foot fixed, a new game plan, and new stuff going on. I'm really happy for you.
