Woop woop!!! The tri scene is hot in the southwest & mountain region!
We were talking about how it's not so easy to find cool tris - can you recommend some that might be possibilities? I suggested Wildflower because that's on my list - but Dr.Cupcake thought people would rather a Fall tri because of winter training...
I think wildflower is probably worth a winter cycle - it's an amazing race.
If you're thinking Northern Cal/ PNW, I don't really have any suggestions, but I bet chw57 does!
I do mostly NM, CO, & AZ. I think lifetime in Phoenix would be good, the Boulder series would be great (though they all sell out well in advance), and then I have a local 70.3 & a few olys that are awesome since I live here, but are probably not travel-worthy.
Well, I LOVE both Vineman and Wildflower, but they are Summer/Spring. I've done Wildflower 3 times (2 oly, 1 70.3) but I'd probably wait until the lake comes back because the last 2 years it's been swim - run - bike - run because they had to change the swim location due to low water
There's an IM 70.3 in Santa Cruz in Sept (it used to be called Big Kahuna)
I've always wanted to do Oceanside, but that's in March so training can be tricky.
Oh man!! I want to come SO BAD. I mean, SO BAD. I'm still bitter to have missed Kiawah.
But, Willa won't be a year yet, so, breastfeeding. And, that's the week that H's season kicks off, so he wouldn't be able to hold down the fort while I'm gone.
Also, East Coast!!! Come to the west side, ya'll!
But a January marathon would be so perfect. I've even been thinking about RnR Phoenix in Jan, but our travel budget may be shot (Disney in Nov! Durango in Dec! Christmas! Birthday!).
I say a lot of unnecessary words, don't I? My regretful answer is that I can't make this one, either
This makes me legitimately sad. I mean, happy because baby and fun trips, but selfishly sad.
I have to come to Albuquerque for a damn race, don't I?
I'd go to Albuquerque! I've never been (except to the airport...doesn't count). AND YES WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING ON THE WEST COAST!
lb2006, any idea if they allow packet pickup for other people? I couldn't find it on their site. I am 99% sure that I will not have vacation time, so that's my biggest concern. If someone else can get my packet, I can leave after work & be there by 8:00.
Either way, I still won't know for a couple of months. If I go, it will only be the half.

I swear I looked on their site! LOL I think I only looked under the packet pickup/expo section, though. Thanks! This makes it much more likely that I am in!
yes, they allow packet pick-up i am getting close to sending out an email to everyone who has said they are interested. Looks like it will be a great group!
Call me crazy but even I am considering this... I know. I'm wrong side of the Atlantic and my access would drive you all bonkers, but still. I've done sillier things in my life...!
(Edit: accent, not access. Apparently I struggle with English. The irony, it slays me.)

PLEASE COME!!!! As skwcm80 & enfuego23 can vouch for me - i'm open to being a B&B for folks who want to fly into our local airport & travel to the race (a large international hub!!!!)

Do it!!!! Like lb2006 said, if flying into Charleston doesn't work, fly into CLT!
It might take some convincing my hubs. We've been watching Catfish here and well, he's never been an expat so hasn't had to make new friends. I'll work on him. Thank you for the offer of b&b and travel options! I need to find out where CLT is... Charlotte is my best guess.
@cheshire I can vouch for the lb2006 b&b. Two cute pups, beautiful views, and breakfast by Mr. LB. I would love to see The Leap in person.
Two dogs? Why didn't you say so!? I love dogs.
Solid maybe for me.
Flights actually look reasonable to CHS. 12.5 hrs one way and 10.5 going back, change at ATL. Totally doable. (I'm Australian so flying home takes me 26hrs. Anything under that is perfectly reasonable.)
I'd be coming in on the Thursday late afternoon, leaving Sunday afternoon.

Yes Charlotte we have 17 other ladies on the board who attended the GTG at Kiawah & none of us were catfish!
im told we might want to consider folley beach, which is nearby?
Isle of palms sounds wayyy more exotic.
We will see. I am doubtful my list this year will compare to the fabulousness that was Kiawah. But, I'm trying!
As long as there is booze, bananas , and pizza - i think we'll all be good!
Someone should warn Charleston that they should stock up. We will have 346 bananas in that house, and someone will think it best, to run out and grab some more. There were bananas covering every surface.

Is it humid there? At least it's sea level, but will I suffocate?
I'm interested. Lol
You stand a solid chance of low humidity that time of year. Kiawah was cool & crisp. taratru ran her BQ there, so the weather obviously wasn't hard on her.

agreed - it was a toss-up for race day. This race, unlike kiawah, is on the main roads - so little to no shade unless you have clouds.
