My home renovations are slowly but surely winding down, and with only a few more projects to go I'm looking into ordering furniture. The walls in the living room are a medium grey, the only thing I've bought for that room so far is a yellow TV stand. The dining room, which is open to the living room, has teal under the chair rail.
Here are my top 2 contenders.
Option 1: Grey couch with chaise.
Pros: I love that it has a chaise, comfortable, color is neutral enough that if I redecorated in the future it should go with anything, pretty inexpensive ($500 and I could get it delivered for free) Cons: Only comes in one fabric choice (I'd prefer a microfiber/something more pet friendly), I'm concerned it might cause grey overload to put a grey couch in a grey room (it's not going against a wall if that makes any difference), concerned about quality/longevity
Option 2: Teal velvet sofa, no chaise.
Pros: I'm in love with this couch. Love the color, love the fabric, love the style. More of a statement piece. Cons: More expensive ($700, plus about another $100 for shipping), no chaise, less versatility if I redecorate. I've never actually seen it in person as it's only available online, but I have sat on one in a different color in store.
The last time I bought furniture I went the cheap route and regretted it. Grey sofa does not *seem* to be of bad quality, but I dont want to have to buy another couch in 3 years because the cushions get all flattened. Teal sofa is not as comfortable as the grey one, but I feel like it would hold up better over time. I am not the type that redecorates often.
I also love this chair from Ikea. The savings I would get from buying the boring grey couch would allow me to buy this immediately, but I think it would go with either one.

I love the teal couch, but I'd do the grey since you already have the yellow tv stand. That and the teal couch might be a little too much, at least for me. You can always do some teal accent pillows on the grey couch too if you really wanted the color!
I'd get a grey sofa with chaise, but find one that is better quality. You will absolutely regret buying a cheap sofa because it will look like crap in a year.
I like the color and fabric of the teal couch, but I don't like the high sides. I like to rest my arm on the side of the couch, and I can't with the sides up high like that. Also, I prefer neutral furniture with bright and colorful accessories and accent pieces. It's easier and cheaper to change out the accessories.

I picked they grey one because you said it was more comfortable. I love the teal one, but at the end of the day, I would want something that I would want to sit on, ykwim?
Have you ever lived with a chaise before? Some people love them, but they can make decorating difficult because the lounge is on one side forever and if you move furniture / move it to another room / move houses the side the lounge is on may not be ideal. Ours was very comfortable but ultimately had to be relegated to the basement of our current house because we just couldn't work around the lounge placement.
I think the velvet sofa is also beautiful but again you'll have to think about your life style going forward - are you someone who sits on a couch occasionally or do you want to use it to watch movies on and relax on? Sometimes the more tailored style couches are not super comfy for use over the course of a couple hours.
I always think think that if your space can accommodate two love seats or a love seat and two chairs, you'll get more use out of them because no one ever sits on the third seat in a full couch. A love seat like the first couch, but without the chaise would be great.

My sofa test is always will I like burrowing down in it with a blanket when it's cold or I'm sick. The teal one is super cute, but does not pass the snuggly test.
Since you have cats (I assume based on your sig), go with microfiber. No question. I would never get a woven ever again - my cats have destroyed my old sofa.
I like the teal one better anyway, but I'm more of a statement piece kind of person. It doesn't look particularly comfortable, but again, I'm style over comfort.
mp, we have that same yellow/beige in our new house. I didn't really mind it when we first toured the place, and now I hate it. I just want my taupe back from my TH. Along w/ my taupe carpet. Sad panda here.
I love the gray walls--you can't go wrong with the teal or gray couch. I voted gray, but I love teal.
Definitely grey with the yellow chair. The teal doesn't look comfortable, and I love the grey and yellow. Toss in teal accents and it would be gorgeous.

The teal is very pretty but looks like a cleaning nightmare. Tufted velvet is the least pet friendly fabric choice imaginable. It also looks uncomfortable. So I'd either go for the gray or look for a new option in microfiber.

The one in her photo looks reversible. So long as the cushion can be flipped, you just move the footstool to the other side. We have a chaise and can reverse it if need be.
