Sydney Yosemite Grand Canyon (again because we spent so little time there first time we went) Sedona Peru and Costa Rica Europe
We hope to do Sydney of those before we have another kid. DS is 2 and I think he is in a good age to travel. I think SA will have to wait when the kid(s) are older.
We have a list of vacations that we want to do 1) without kids, 2) with kids now and 3) with kids when they are older. They include:
Without kids: - Netherlands, Belgium and Germany (the beer tour) - St. Lucia - Bali or Bora Bora - Peru (the Inca Trail)
With kids now or in the next few years (they are 6 and 4): - Grand Canyon and Sedona - California Coast/Big Sur/Redwoods - Costa Rica - Hawaii - Disney
With kids when they are older: - South Africa - Spain and Portugal - France and England - Iceland - New Zealand or Australia - South Asia (Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand) - Guatamala
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
I have a ton but in the next few years I want to go to Mexico Banff Alaska Hawaii Northern Cal to see the Redwoods The Grand Canyon
I think DD needs to be 5 or 6 for these.
Next year we are planning on going to San Diego, Nantucket (I've wanted to go here since the first time I picked up an Elin Hilderbrand novel, lol), and Turks and Caicos. Mexico is on our agenda for the year after.
I love this idea and am mostly posting to follow. DH's family planned all their vacations around historical places/national parks and ballparks so he has an impressive US list.
We just got home from a low key boating vacation at a nice lake (Norris Lake, TN) and it was far better than I thought it would be with three small kids. There were several moment where I thought, wow, they are really loving this.
We've done WDW and we'll do it again, probably next year. DH and have been to Hawaii and I want to take the kids when they're older, maybe in 5-8 years. We'll do Germany as a family soon, maybe 2017. Yellowstone when they're in their early teens.
DH and I are planning somewhere in South America for our 10th anniversary. We want to do Scandinavia and Paris too.

Ugh too many places! DH and I have 3 lists, quick weekend getaways, couple trips and family trips DH and I have a California winery trip/ highway 1 trip, Italy, France, Spain, Hawaii, and a few Caribbean islands we haven't been too Family trips, include wdw, out west, Vancouver, the outer banks, and the Caribbean . Living in NC there are many small trips we do regularly, ( the NC Mts, charleston, Florida, evt)
I want to start planning family vacation more in advance. There is a small list in my mind of places, I definitely want to go with our kids.
Yosemite Grand Canyon Somewhere tropical Cruise to Alaska Disneyworld Ski vacation Europe (when they're older)
What's on your list and what do you feel is the best age for these trips?
Honestly this is our list.
Plus - Glacier Natl Park and/or Banff San Fran & redwoods NYC (maybe a weekend at Xmas too) CO in the summer
We just booked a winter/ski trip today to Lake Placid for NYE (easier to stay in east coast with our time frame this year). We live in FL so we do Disney already.
I want to wait until the baby is 8 to do grand canyon bc I want to raft the river down below, and that's the minimum age. I feel like they'd enjoy Alaska a little older too. NYC I might do sooner than later. CO I want to do when baby is 4 so we can calm water raft at least. Tropics are good for little ones bc they will play at the beach all day. If I didn't live in FL, and knowing what I know now, I wouldn't do Disney until your kid is 4. It's a lot to take in.
My biggest one is the Grand Canyon, which DH shot down for this year for lots of different reasons, including having started a new job and not being sure when it's okay to take vacation. DD is 7, which feels like the perfect age for that, and DS is still at an age where I can take him in the carrier and not worry about him toddling off into the canyon.
Besides that, the rest of the list is mainly places I want to go before I die, not because I think they are particularly child-friendly or like my kids will be "missing out" if they don't go. These include:
- Colombia - Panama - New Mexico - Japan - Cambodia - Seattle & Portland
The only places on my list I would rather do solo are:
- Mozambique (don't want to deal with all the malaria prevention stuff for kids) - the Galapagos (so $$$ for a whole family, but more justifiable if I just go by myself, so it's on my 40th birthday list) - India (because I'd love to visit many temples and do a more spiritual-type of tour than I think young kids would be interested in)
You name it, I'd like to visit at least once. But right now some places I know we are planning( some,we have been before, some more than once but want to take the kids)
Disney world San Diego San Francisco DC NYC turks and caicos or other tropical place Europe including ireland, france, Italy, England, iceland, spain Rockey mtn natonal park (grew up 20 mins away and my father still lives there) Alaskan cruise outer banks
That's what I can think of right now. We will probably spend a week on cape cod each year too.
I feel like they have done a decent amount of domestic travel, but we have not ventured into much international travel with kids yet.
We are the opposite. I feel like this is another reason we should be sister wives! You would handle all the domestic travel planning and I would handle all the international travel.
Seriously, domestic travel off of the East Coast just kind of overwhelms me. Things are so faaaar from each other in the United States, and require multiple flights and rental cars and mapping out how many hours it takes to get from place A to place B.
We're saving up for an RV; our plan is to start touring the US the summer before A starts kindy and J is potty trained.
I would be surprised if we got past the Rockies before they graduate HS. Our off-the-top-of-my-head list is:
Yosemite Joshua Tree/Red Rock Canyon Crater Lake/Oregon Coast Olympia Nat'l Park/maybe San Juan islands? Moab/Monument Valley Grand Canyon Colorado Yellowstone Tetons Glacier Nat'l Park Banff
I'm sure there are other places we'll want to go, with or without them. Maybe we'll take every third year off from the RV, or intersperse other trips. I know we'll do Disneyland plenty and my H needs to see DC.
I'm not sold on their need for international travel unless we win the lottery. That's our empty nester plan.

We are going to Glacier this summer. We have done the Smokies and Orlando. DD has been to northern CA twice. One day we will take DS too, and do a longer trip. I would like to do Boston, Maine, and Nantucket. Washington DC, and at some point Victoria Island/ the San Juan Islands. I don't have a strong desire to go back to Europe, maybe by high school, but I would rather they do that in college, when they can have a bigger measure of independence. I would like to go to China, but my DH doesn't want to go, so we will probably go to Argentina for our next international trip.
We are going to China later this year with both boys. I am scared, but it should be worth it. I wonder if we will slow down with 2 or how difficult it will be. I also think we might save several trips till they can appreciate it more. We don't really have babysitters, so any trips more than likely will include them.
I would love to go to: Italy Iceland Japan (I've been several times, my favorite place ever) a cruise to Alaska a safari Montana/Yellowstone
Since Elijah was born (21 months ago) we have done: India Israel Hawaii Grand Canyon Las Vegas and Los Angeles Disney World Miami and Key West and Paris without him
I want to travel, and I want to want to travel with my kid, but I can't imagine it right now. She acts too much like a toddler - it's all moodiness and tantrums and not wanting to do what I want her to do. Are you guys blessed with well behaved children? I feel like I'll plan something, she will be herself, and H will never let me book another trip again.
We are on our last pre-baby vacation in Hawaii right now. Our plans for the next year include: St Croix - baby will be 4.5 months Block Island - baby will be 9/10 months (this is every summer, rent a house)
On our list in the next two years before baby 2: Bahamas Costa Rica Savannah GA
On our list in general: Croatia Nicaragua Belize (went in 2011 and can't wait to go back) Panama Greece South Africa (I went in 2005 but want to go back with DH without kids) Moorea
@littlemoxie, yes, good point. My threshhold is definitely more generous than H's. I think it's partially a matter of reframing. Pre-kid we traveled a lot, stayed at nice hotels, ate fancy dinners, got spa treatments. Traveling with dd needs to look different and I know H isn't ready for that, particularly spending the money and feeling like he can't enjoy a trip the same way. I'm confident we'll get there at some point. DD has never been a go with the flow, easy kid, plus both H and I can get overwhelmed and exhausted by her at times.
Banff Hawaii Costa Rica/Panama Peru Australia/New Zealand Loire Valley/Paris Prague/Vienna Dalmatian Coast S Africa Greek Isles Capri/Positano/Florence/Rome Yellowstone Japan Fiji
Where we are actually headed in the next 12 months: Bethany Beach, DE NYC WDW Bluefields Jamaica
Everywhere! At nearly 3, C has been to the following:
DC (twice) NYC Denver San Antonio Houston DFW St Louis San Diego Portland KC Several places in KS, OK and MO Connecticut Massachusetts
On our near term lists -
Colorado - weeklong vacation this summer to Denver, Colorado Springs, Loveland to sightsee, hike and visit friends and family
Omaha - long weekend for zoo
St Louis - long weekend as we want to do Children's Museum and zoo this time
Minneapolis - football game and probably baseball game in early September, so will combine with some kid-friendly things
Wish List places -
National Parks - especially Yellowstone, Glacier, Grand Canyon, and Yosemite, plus a few others I'm forgetting Alaskan cruise Disney World Mount Rushmore Europe Australia San Francisco
DH and I have each been to a few places on the wish list, and together to Europe a couple of times, but they're places I'd love to visit as a family.
All the National Parks and both Disney. Older kids...Hawaii (or some other tropical island) & Europe.
We've done a few NPs and both DL & WDW....but now we have DD4 we have to go back. Taking the kids to Yellowstone & Tetons in early July. Maybe do a CO road trip to see Mesa Verde, Sand Dunes NP, etc later this summer.
One of my family bucket list items was an Alaskan cruise. We did that last year.
Next on the list is Hawaii, and we're planning that for next summer.
Other family vacations I'd like to do are Arizona/grand canon, San Diego, New England.
When they're older, I really want do do a safari with them. I'd also like to take them to the places in Europe we really enjoyed. High on that list are Paris, Copenhagen, St. Petersburg and Istanbul.
Everywhere, but realistically these are at the top of the list:
PNW NYC DC Grand Canyon and surrounding areas (though they went with family friends last year) California Hawaii Scotland (tentatively planned for 2017) Norway (tentatively planned for 2017)
I've been to all of those places already except the last two. H has only been to NYC, and California but that was only for a short work trip so it doesn't really count. Our kids are old enough now to go anywhere (9 and 12)
