I did Whitney's most defined twist out style yesterday. It turned out great for the second time. However the humidity killed it. I think I will just stop making an effort for my hair to be cute only at home. Ha! Bring on fall and winter.
I was rounding on a patient at 5 am. The resident on another team came up to me and asked my name so I introduced myself. He's African, I think Nigeria.
He said "don't get offended, but why do you wear your hair like that, why don't you fix it"
I said "uhh because I like it and I'm tired/don't have time to quote "fix it"" and then I just stormed off.
I've been wearing my hair in a puff, co washing every 2 days. I've worked for 13 days straight 12-15 days per hour day, don't tell me to fix my hair. I wear make up so its not like I'm walking around looking like Bebe's kids.
I actually did get more negative comments about my natural hair when I was living in South Africa and travelled to other countries. Grrr.
Eta: while I was storming off he said "do me a favor, think about fixing it!"
DA FUCK NAWL. I'M NOT FIXING SHIT. IT GROWS OUT OF MY HEAD THE WAY NATURE MADE ME. FUCK YOU DUDE.
I really want to get back into hennaing my hair. But I need 3-4 hours at home just to do a gloss. More for a real treatment. I am hoping it will help with the breakage I have gotten post pregnancy. I really need to find a stylist too.
Will the henna cover grays? 36 has brought a few too many lol

Three people have asked about stylist recommendations today! We should be sharing them in this thread. My backups have backups, so if anyone needs a recommendation in Atlanta for a colorist, a great cut, a natural stylist specializing in natural styles or a natural stylist specializing in straight styles, let me know and I will PM. All four are great .
You ever try something and then realize you fucked up but you can't back out of it without rewashing? I don't know what to do, I was too lazy to wash last night so I washed this morning instead. I realized a little while ago that my twists wouldn't be dry in time (dinner with a friend). I pulled out this hair dryer and tried to dry it myself. I tried doing just what my stylist does, but of course, it looks nothing like that . I look like a lion--my husband even laughed at me . I have to leave home in less than 3 hours, I can't start over. Ironically, my mother bought me a flat iron (ironic because the reason I probably don't know how to do anything decent with my hair is because of her refusal to do anything but pay a stylist), it's still in the box. I could try that, but honestly I don't see that turning out any better than my "blowout" so I'm not sure it's worth the time. Does anyone have a fool-proof go to style that might be worth trying in this situation? No time to air dry and very very limited styling skills? I don't want to look crazy at dinner .
Eta - oh, and my wash and gos are basically look like wash and wtf happened to yous, so that's not a viable option for me.

Do you know how excited I was because I thought this was a style suggestion ?
Eta - I don't really have the skill set for either of these, but I love them!
Can you pull it into a high bun and tuck/roll the ends under? I've done that in a pinch and it can look really nice.
Okay, this is what I decided, too! It didn't work, though. My arms got really tired and I couldn't get the bun tight enough or the back smooth enough. The only time I've ever had good looking buns are after blowouts or when someone else does it for me, so I don't know why I was kidding myself. But, it did lead me to the side bun, which is what I think I'm going to end up doing. I have it in a side pony now with a scarf to help make it a little sleeker. It hasn't helped that with each style change, I end up adding some new product to try to make that style work, so it feels gross but smells nice lol.
LOL no worries, @kirkette, I obviously know the struggle .
Oh!!! I don't normally post here... But can I play? How did I not know this post existed?!?
Hi! I don't want to speak for orangeblossom, but I think she said people can only play if they post hair pics.
Kidding, kidding (devil).
Bam!
Post blow out/press on the left and two strand twists (my dad kept calling me crazy eyes) and the aftermath on the right. (I don't have pics of the twists after I finger combed and they relaxed a little... So you'll have to trust it was cute
Yes, successful trickery lol! You have been holding out, carfar (even though it was our fault for failure to tag lol)--your hair is gorgeous! How often do you blow out v. how often do you wear natural styles?

When my hair was shorter I used to pull it into a "interview" bun with one of these
I've been practicing those two strand twists that go along like corn rows and I'm terrible at it. I'm trying to achieve this and FAILING.

Oooh, I'm going to get you! Just kidding.
I should be kicked out of my own post than, because I haven't posted a pic in forever.
I did just buy a new set of curl sponges that has three different hole sizes and Aun.t Jack.ies flax seed gel, so perhaps I will post pics after I play with them.

I also can't get this one. I'm a terrible girl.
Okay, Scunci is kind of my bae, I will look for that. I love these styles! I was totally about to talk about how cute that last style would be on you and how simple it looks, but given how much trouble I just had trying to put a bun on top of my head, I won't go there.
It does look hella easy, though. :-#
Eta - although...the more I look at the steps and try to work through the logistics, your hair might be too long for this? She is easily able to tuck that hair in, I actually don't know that it would go so smoothly with your length.

Lol I could not resist and moreover, it worked! We got pics haha. I am intrigued by what that last one does. Any idea?
Oh, I forgot I'm getting my hair done next week. Hopefully, she can get rid of all of these straight pieces and shape my hair without cutting too much off.

Interesting!
What are you getting done? I didn't even know you had straight pieces. Heat damage?

LOL
Please keep in mind that I can barely apply lipstick. You might be right, though. My hair might be too long for it. Back to pintrest!

Just a shampoo, treatment and shaping with a natural stylist. I saw a Groupon and am taking a chance on her. She's gotten good reviews. It's in the city, which I'm okay with, because every.single.person I ask in town that has natural hair, just takes care of it themselves.
Re heat damage, it's just leftover straight hair from years of perming. I haven't had a perm for over ten years, but I've got lots of long strands, that are at least 3-4 inches long when stretched. You can't tell as much when my hair is neat and shaped, but I haven't had a haircut in almost six months, so those straight pieces are really sticking out.

Oh wow, that's crazy! I hope you like her and that you post the pics after you get it done .
