Yes, successful trickery lol! You have been holding out, carfar (even though it was our fault for failure to tag lol)--your hair is gorgeous! How often do you blow out v. how often do you wear natural styles?
Thanks! usually about once a month I'll either blow dry and flat iron myself, and I get a trim and press at the salon maybe every two - three months. Generally it's straight no more than once a month, and currently not even that. The left picture is the second time it's been straight since the baby last November, and I got it done for my friend's wedding that I was MOH in. It is so much happier and healthier with out constant heat (I was applying heat almost every day, and perm once a month or so back in college and a few years after)
Ok so I've realized that I think my hairline is starting to thin (wilted) Since being natural for about 6 years now I've ALWAYS pinned back the sides somehow or had my hair pulled up in an elastic with a poof on the top of my head. So I think it's time to let my afro fly free with no pinning. I know they say for my texture (4 whatever) stretching by twisting is good so that it reduces tangles, but I feel like that also puts stress on my hair line. So I don't know. For now, I think I'm just going to stick with wash n go's every 2 days with detangling and see how that helps. I'm over carrying about shrinkage and none defined curls as it is what it is! Please tell me if I look busted lol.
(Full disclosure I do have 1 small bobby pin on the side, clearly I can't live without them! But will try to go bobby pin free going forward)
I am embarrassed about how many hair pics I have in my phone now lol. I mostly want to remember styles I can go to and what products I use for them. This is nothing exciting, but here are the "blowout" fiasco and the side bun from the other day. Today, it looks like the blowout pic again . It looks like my ends are rougher than they are because I just had a trim and it doesn't look this rough when I have it blown out. Anyway, I am not going to get my hair done until next week (although, outside of a work meeting, I don't think I have much happening this week), so I am going to use this time to try some new things, although I don't know what. I am so limited because of all the heat damaged straight pieces :/.

The feathers might be my favorite redaction yet.
I just Curls Unleashed Curl Defining Creme. It smells like a relaxer. Unless my hair looks super fly at the end of the day this is getting pitched. I can't walk around and wonder if my scalp is burning every time I catch a wiff.

Decided to go natural! Super nervous! For years I've struggled with self-esteem (I've been obese all my life) and my hair was the only thing that was "pretty" on me. But I'm sick of being a "slave" to my relaxer and to negative self image.

Thanks lol. My face is so scrunched up reading about that smell. Ugh.

Congratulations !! This is no shade to those who choose to relax, but everyone I've seen go natural looks so lovely with their natural hair. Besides my own personal opinion that natural hair is just so beautiful, many women seem more confident after and that's a beauty worth its weight in gold. I hope you love it.
Does anyone work out multiple times a week? How do you get your styles to hold up? I sweat a lot more after having a kid and my roots get so poofy. I wear a scarf, but it doesn't seem to help. I think I may need different styling products to help, but I don't know what I need. My hair has changed so much post kid I feel like I am a newb. I cannot do wash n gos.
Today I am channeling sfy and doing a side bun. I could not make the twists work one more day after my workout.
When I don't have a crafting deadline (like right now), I do exercise regularly, however, I don't have much of a 'style' to speak of. I get the poofy roots thing too. I braid my hair at night and during exercise and add a little extra leave in the that area. It doesn't eliminate the poof, but it kicks it down a level.

Yeah I work out multiple times per week, always have. As you can see in my picture, my roots getting puffy is the status quo for me, so I can't help you there lol, sorry!
I just wash my hair more often and do twists if I don't feel like worry about it. I haven't really found anything that makes my styles last longer.
Another reason for my love of natural hair now is I don't have to worry about sweating out my perm

I do but I can also wash and go. Have you tried a curl cream and a satin scarf while working out?

I work out most days and I wear flat twists until after my hardest workout, then a twist out throughout the rest of the week. At night I usually will put in a bunch of big twists and take it down in the morning. I'm always ready to wear a bun if my twist out starts looking crazy.

I have to retwist my hair if I want it to hold. But, since I'm lazy and like big hair, I don't care about it being poofy. Considering your line of work, you'll likely need to twist your hair before you work out.
Ooh, it looks great, orangeblossom! What kind of treatment did you get? Will you go back there again?
Thank you. I'm supposed to take the twists apart in he morning, but we'll see.
She gave me a steaming treatment, and something called a decca treatment to add some shine.
I'll definitely go again. She was nice, knowledgeable, and most importantly, prompt.
That's great. I need to look into that decca treatment, because I was thinking about how shiny it looks. Ha @ we'll see, yep, I like to hold off on untwisting until I have somewhere to go lol. Well, please post more whenever you take them out!

I do have somewhere to be. I'm in a wedding tomorrow. I'm mad, I forgot my bonnet, so I have to go find one ASAP as soon as I get into town.
It is rather shiny!! I'm quite pleased. I was just hoping to get it cleaned up a bit, and I was going to work with it tomorrow. I told her I was in a wedding and she coiled it for me.

Oh yeah, she sounds like a keeper . Have fun at the wedding!
Sidebar: How many weddings have you been in/to this year? I remember a few years ago being sick of going to weddings, but now we hardly ever have any . I know this is at least your second.

Thank you! I plan to have fun, after I beg down much needed sleep tonight. I will not be taking part in the party bus.
Too damn many. I like weddings, but it's been nonstop all summer.
This is wedding #1 that I'm in and the third this summer. I've got one more in October. We actually got another injure for this weekend too.
Does anyone have low porosity hair? Any products you recommend? My hair as well as DD's have been so dry lately, and in trying to figure out a solution I realized we both have low porosity hair.
I'm about to go to WF to pick up some Rhassoul clay to make mud masks for us, and that means I've hit desperate times. Lol!
I've been doing mud washes for DD and I, I'm a fan. My hair is so much softer and shinier that I think I can tell when I need to do another wash just by looking..
I'm a one trick pony when it comes to my hair (twist outs and buns), but here is a pic from this last weekend.
My coconut oil is different now. More water less oil. It's not working for me.
Replacement suggestions welcome.
I've been sitting here for close to 5 minutes trying to think of a good replacement for coconut oil. I can't think of anything. But also, to clarify, are you saying you want something that is water-based instead?

I'm getting it done Wednesday, so yay for that. I'm thinking of getting braids.
I think it's long enough for a headband or little barrette in the front, so long as I find a child's headband. I have a tiny head. I'm going to play with that a bit.

No, I mean that they changed the formulation on me.
I used to get the one on the left, but they've been replaced by the one on the right at all my usual haunts. The one on the right is mostly water. It does nothing for me. It's also the only oil (brand) at my usual spots and alllllll of their oils seem to have made this switch.
