I've been sitting here for close to 5 minutes trying to think of a good replacement for coconut oil. I can't think of anything. But also, to clarify, are you saying you want something that is water-based instead?
No, I mean that they changed the formulation on me.
I used to get the one on the left, but they've been replaced by the one on the right at all my usual haunts. The one on the right is mostly water. It does nothing for me. It's also the only oil (brand) at my usual spots and alllllll of their oils seem to have made this switch.
I need oil.
Ohhh. Okay, so maybe this is a dumb question, but what about using pure coconut oil? Too oily? I just get it at the beauty supply (they keep it in the refrigerator).

It's like, solid though isn't it? I can't be walking out to the microwave in my towel every morning. My kids will eventually find that embarrassing.

Does it have to stay cold, too?
You oculus keep a small jar in the bathroom. The heat from the shower should soften it up, or like NitaX suggested, rub it in tie hands.

Girl. Our jobs as parents is to embarrass our kids. I do it on the regular with an evil laugh.

Confused again--is your microwave at their school ? Otherwise, if this is the worst you've done to embarrass them, I'm doing it all wrong .
It can be whatever you want. My house was hot, hot, hot last week and most of it melted, so it was half liquid with a solid glob in the middle. Usually, it's not that hot in here, so it's solid, but very soft (think along the lines of grease). When it is solid, though, rubbing it in your hands for 15 seconds will turn it to oil. I'd never bother microwaving it anyway.
orangeblossom and pennypenny, I am also threatening to get braids for my vacation next month, but as my husband reminded me, I say this before every vacation and I've never done it, so who knows. If I do, I'll get box braids. I at least did mention it to my stylist to see if she could recommend a braider, so that put me further down the road than the other 50-11 times, so we'll see.

The 2yo woke up in the middle of the night and called for me. I got up and he told me I needed pants before proceeding to cry for his paci.

I'll give the pure oil a try. Thanks y'all.
Hey, we have to respect his ability to put decorum before his personal paci needs.
My coconut oil is different now. More water less oil. It's not working for me.
Replacement suggestions welcome.
I find coconut oil too oily for my hair, so I use jojoba oil. It's not nearly as oily and my hair seems to really love it. I also add honey to my conditioner for a deep treatment.
Thanks lady! I'm trying to be bold. When I first got them this Nigerian guy I work with told me "I like your other glasses". I said "thanks" smiled brightly and I never wear the old ones anymore. Ass.
I was about to ask if this was the same guy who commented on your hair before, but then I remembered that wasn't even you, it was @wandering. What is with these guys at work thinking anyone has a single solitary piece of a fuck to give about what they think about anyone's appearance? Weirdos.

I think if you wear glasses, they should be fun. I hated my old boring black frames. I love my current pair because it screams ME!!!!! I've got another pair of frames picked out that I need to go buy. My sis works in optical so, she's holding them for me.
My local are gettIng so long. I'll try to upload a pic later, it's hard to do from my phone.
I really want to start my sisterlocks, but I'm going to wait until I finish school. For one, the startup cost is a lot, and two, I don't have the time right now to sit for really long retightening sessions. I did, however, find out my old stylist in Raleigh has her own salon now, so I'll probably go up there over winter break to get my hair braided. She's worth it, and always did the best work.
I just got a sew-in last night. I feel like I should turn in my natural card. I needed something different. I haven't worn a weave in over a decade.
No need to turn it in.
What kind of style did you get. PIP if you feel comfortable. I'm sure it looks great.
Nothing special. Just a side part with some length. I'll pip after I unwrap and style for the day. I'm in headwrap, no makeup, Netflix mode right now. That can't be on the internet

I have never had a weave, but I have been considering it. But when I see weaves that I think look good and ask the price, I am like hell naw. I might have to bite the bullet. I need something different. It is a good protective hairstyle.
Maybe crochet braids would be an option for you? They've got some really great styles these days, especially with Marley hair.

Yea the overall cost is crazy between buying the hair and getting it done. I'm justifying the cost by saying this is my birthday and Christmas present. When I told dh about it I spoke vaguely in hopes that he won't take the time to add up everything. He's a very cheap man and would not understand

The only issue is I have to wear a stupid hat at work. So the braids can't be too big or they won't fit. Now I have seen women just plop the hat on top of them and not really be wearing the hat, but I can't do that. It is very limiting.
Ah, got it. Maybe some other folks will have suggestions that will allow you to wear your hat without too many issues.
Just an FYI, there's a post on page 10 or so (on mobile) has a pic of a naked white chick baring aaaallllllll her bits... Where I think a hair pic should be.....
I shouldn't find this hilarious, right? It's killing me.
I couldn't do the two flat twists this morning. For some reason, the right side came out great and the left side kept turning into a braid. For fellow Seinfeldians, I "can't go left!" So then I decided to make straight back flat twists, but I was wearing a tank top today, so by the third one, I realized I was giving Queen Latifah as Cleo teas. Ultimately, I just ended up with two braids and then I pinned them up in the back and that was decent enough that I will do it again. For weeks, I've been thinking that my color was fading, but after being blown out today, I see that it wasn't, it just looks much duller when I'm wearing it natural, which is really quite a bummer. I hadn't noticed it before and I'm not sure what to do about that, because I am now planning to wear it natural 50% of the time rather than my usual 20% of the time. I don't want to get brighter color, either, though. Is anyone else here colored? No pun intended lol, but any tips?
For comparison sake, here is my bantu knot out again from earlier this week and below that is my new blow out. Huge difference!
This post (I removed the pics for the quote)
Oh my goodness. I am cracking up. I'm sure that was quite the shock.

Oh sfy, you've been summoned. For some reason, your post in this thread on July 31st, is showing a full-frontal picture of a naked woman. Somehow, I don't think that's what you meant to post

OMG WTF?!! I use tinypic and then report the posts as inappropriate so that they will automatically delete them. I guess they re-use the links?? Oh gosh, I'm sorry everyone. That's awful.
