I used to get the one on the left, but they've been replaced by the one on the right at all my usual haunts.  The one on the right is mostly water. It does nothing for me. It's also the only oil (brand) at my usual spots and alllllll of their oils seem to have made this switch.

Ohhh.  Okay, so maybe this is a dumb question, but what about using pure coconut oil?  Too oily?  I just get it at the beauty supply (they keep it in the refrigerator).

I was going to suggest using pure coconut oil too. I usually melt it in the microwave for a few seconds. Or if you rub it in your hands it melts.

You oculus keep a small jar in the bathroom. The heat from the shower should soften it up, or like NitaX suggested, rub it in tie hands.

Confused again--is your microwave at their school ?  Otherwise, if this is the worst you've done to embarrass them, I'm doing it all wrong . 

It can be whatever you want.  My house was hot, hot, hot last week and most of it melted, so it was half liquid with a solid glob in the middle.  Usually, it's not that hot in here, so it's solid, but very soft (think along the lines of grease).   When it is solid, though, rubbing it in your hands for 15 seconds will turn it to oil.  I'd never bother microwaving it anyway. 

orangeblossom and pennypenny, I am also threatening to get braids for my vacation next month, but as my husband reminded me, I say this before every vacation and I've never done it, so who knows.  If I do, I'll get box braids.  I at least did mention it to my stylist to see if she could recommend a braider, so that put me further down the road than the other 50-11 times, so we'll see.

I find coconut oil too oily for my hair, so I use jojoba oil.  It's not nearly as oily and my hair seems to really love it. I also add honey to my  conditioner for a deep treatment.

Nothing special. Just a side part with some length. I'll pip after I unwrap and style for the day. I'm in headwrap, no makeup, Netflix mode right now. That can't be on the internet

I have never had a weave, but I have been considering it. But when I see weaves that I think look good and ask the price, I am like hell naw. I might have to bite the bullet. I need something different. It is a good protective hairstyle.

Maybe crochet braids would be an option for you? They've got some really great styles these days, especially with Marley hair.

Yea the overall cost is crazy between buying the hair and getting it done. I'm justifying the cost by saying this is my birthday and Christmas present. When I told dh about it I spoke vaguely in hopes that he won't take the time to add up everything. He's a very cheap man and would not understand

The only issue is I have to wear a stupid hat at work. So the braids can't be too big or they won't fit. Now I have seen women just plop the hat on top of them and not really be wearing the hat, but I can't do that. It is very limiting.

Ah, got it.  Maybe some other folks will have suggestions that will allow you to wear your hat without too many issues.
