I grew up in PA and I never saw the PA flag. However, living in MD, I see the MD flag everywhere. I think it's a combo of UA and UMD since it's the school colors and all over their alumni stuff.
Fun fact- I had never seen the MD flag until my husband took me to a UMD basketball game. I asked why there was a Nascar flag in the middle of the basketball court. His friends still mock me for it, but in my defense, it totally looks like a Nascar flag.
Speaking of CO flag.. My MIL lives in CO and has a lot of CO pride, but since marijuana legalization, she is afraid to wear her CO flag shirt because she doesn't want people to think she likes marijuana. lol

Well MT is one single area code, so we see a lot of "406" stuff and outlines of MT.
I know someone who has a tattoo with a 406 and an outline of the state, but I've never seen a MT Flag. Our flag has the state seal, which is pretty detailed, but the rest is pretty boring.
I also think you don't see CO or WY outline shapes much b/c they are too square.
I'm glad our flag is nice because we get screwed on the cute things shaped like your state. A rectangle is not fun.
There are bennies! The rectangle shaped states were in great demand when we did state reports in 5th grade. Colorado is sooooo much easier to draw than Hawaii.

KY state flag has too much small detail to be a good tattoo, I don't believe I've ever seen one. But the enormous number of UK tattoos more than makes up for that.
Area code tats ESPECIALLY in CA where we change area codes like we change our hair color are just a BAD idea
I think 415 if you live in SF is a safe bet. MAYBE 510 if you live in Oakland. Outside of that...
213 has always been downtown LA, since it's one of those old original area codes from the days of rotary phones (when large cities would get numbers with 1-2-3 because it's shorter to dial). But yeah, everything else has encroached/overlaid on the original.
Most of the boring ass state flags (PA, NY) are just the state seal on a flag background. And who really needs a state seal? I like the story of Alaska's flag, which is that a grade school aged boy (who I think was of Inuit descent?) submitted it to a flag contest when Alaska became a state, and it was picked.
PA's flag might suck, but the city of Philadelphia is marginally better. Mostly because it looks like Ikea. Which is to remind everyone about Philadelphia's origins as part of the New Sweden colony:

I like the story that CA's flag was supposed to have a pear on it, but someone misheard/misread and we got a bear.
The SC flag is everywhere. That's one reason I don't get our fixation with the confederate flag. If you're not a racist a-hole, we have a perfectly nice flag you can fly to represent your southern heritage.
Agreed. The palmetto flag is so simple and pretty, and I see it EVERYWHERE.Â
The GA flag is boring.
And this thread has made me realize I would totally fail a state flag test.
oh but it wasn't boring before Gov Barnes came along....
I have spent a fair amount of time contemplating the various state flags while sitting in the parking lot outside of an air force base waiting for my sister to come get me and escort me in. during that time I decided that Marylanders obsession with their flag is totally valid because it's cool, but that Colorado, and Alaska are cooler. S. Carolina and Indiana are also up there in my rankings.
Any state that just has a lame ass seal on a background (PA for instance) fails.
And I find the Alabama flag kinda intimidating and scary. I'm not 100% sure where that association is coming from.

I love flags! (Side note: TBBT's apartment flag reminds me of my county seal.)
The Alabama flag is the same as the Scotland flag - the cross of St. Andrew, just in different colors.
The North American Vexillological Association says that New Mexico has the best state flag. Georgia's 2001-2003 flag was voted the worst.
No. New Mexico is not the best. It's just not. It's better than stupid PA for example, but the scale of the thingy in the middle just seems so tiny to me.

I don't love the design or the colors, but I think it's one of the best in terms of having a clear symbol. South Carolina's is also good for this - even up in NJ I see a bunch of "palmetto tree and moon" stickers on cars.
Last time I was home in Maryland, I caught a guy wearing these:
But it's not a huge thing in MD.
I don't even know what Ohio's flag looks like, and I've lived here 6 years.
ETA: People here are much more likely to have Ohio State or buckeye related tattoos than the Ohio flag.
MD people love their flag. I see people wearing flag nonsense all the time, because it's kind of a cool graphic. I also kinda blame/credit UA.
I've never noticed a MD flag tattoo irl, but google image search pops up quite a few relevant examples.
Unlike searching for PA flag tattoos, which gets you a whole lotta nothing because who wants a tattoo of this?
I see a lot of MD flag stuff when I visit my parents outside of OC.
Most Pennsylvanians probably can't ID the state flag. It's so generic. We played Quizzo once and I was the only one of 150 adults who recognized it. And then probably only because our state rep gave DS one when he made Eagle Scout.
