Guys. I'm just excited about life today.
I start teaching next week. I always wanted to teach at the college level, but I never figured it would happen for me so soon.
My college newspaper is making national headlines this week. The NYT even picked up the story yesterday. The students walked out on a tyrannical board of directors, and I am so proud of them. I wrote for the paper just a few short years ago. It's the best teaching tool I've ever encountered.
So what makes you happy today? Extra points for pictures of babies and small animals.
I am happy because my baby sleeps in his crib at night lol. It takes him a bit longer to go down than it was in his co sleeper, and he wakes up a bit earlier, but he is still sleeping from 10 or 1030 to 6 or 630, so that is awesome.
One of my oldest friends is getting married tomorrow. I am so excited for her.
Getting DD's first birthday photos taken tomorrow. This is in lieu of a party, since we have no family anywhere near us to invite. I consider these photos an investment in something she'll have forever to look back on.
Can't post photos now since I'm on my phone, but I'll post some of the birthday ones when I get them.
Yay for jobs and sleeping babies and weddings and cute pictures! Happy birthday to your little one sunmoonstars.
My happy is that we hired a drywall guy and he should start on tuesday. Our renovation is FINALLY making progress again!! Also apparently there is ice cream at work today. It's for a team I'm not actually a member of, but the person in charge of buying the goods is my cube neighbor and she said that I should just come anyway.
After today I'm off from work until the 27th. I need this vacation so badly. And I'm really excited to get away from the city even if we're not going too far. Since we're going to the Poconos, I might make H drive us past Caden's honeymoon spot lol.
DS has been an uncolsolable cranky mess since Wednesday (four teeth cutting including molars) and MrDL has been a bit of a selfish asshole in helping me deal. He just called to say he scored tickets for Steelers vs Ravens in December - so he's now forgiven and happiness will be restored in our house for the weekend.

I love the Poconos. My family drove up every summer for a long vacation. Have fun, and wave hello to the nightmare honeymoon spot! Thinking about the parking lot "bike trail" still makes me giggle.
My baby is older than Mrsbecky's and sleeps shittier, but she actually only woke twice last night. Woot! And then woke for the day at 5 am. Whomp whomp.
I felt my baby move a few days ago for the first time. It was such a relief, because we didn't hear the heartbeat on the doppler at my last appointment and I was worried something was wrong.
Also, our county fair starts today. Yippee!! I always look forward to taking the kids through the animal barns and letting them interact with all of the 4H kids and their animals. Also, snow cones make me really happy!!

I sincerely hope you're going to the beautiful Mount Airy Lodge.

Dammit, now that jingle is going to be in my head all day.
My ILs have a lake house there, we've been going at least once or twice a year every year for years now. Pretty sure all the locals hate all the New Yorkers who flood their area every summer.
DH and I both took this whole week off, and we took Abby out of daycare for the week.
We spent three days with my grandparents and my parents and sister at my grandparents' house at the Jersey shore. Abby LOVED the beach and the boardwalk, and was a general joy (besides getting to sleep, but she did sleep all night once she got down.)
Seeing her play in the water and the sand, and start to dance when w were riding the little train on the boardwalk made spending that much time with my family bearable.

I would say yay to the bolded but aren't you a steelers fan?? hopefully the game is like last year's ;-)
DD turns 3 this weekend! I am making a castle cake tonight!!
My cousin who's baby died last year when she was 8 months pg is pregnant again and due in March. I'm so happy for them and glad they feel they are ready to give it another go.
Bella got in to the magnet school that we've been on the wait list for since March. YAY! No more worries about scary neighborhood school!!
It's kind of cool, too, because the school has a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) focus, which is fully awesome, esp as a mom to a girl. And it's a brand new school - like this is its first entering class. And they've taken over an old Junior High building, so even though it's an elementary school, they have access to science labs.
One of the teachers from her preschool has been hired to teach K there (not her teacher, but they know each other) and I'm trying to decide if we want her put in her class. Thoughts?
Also, at long last, we finally got the Ponderosa Pine trees from our back yard, that should never have been planted there in the first place (lesson: don't let your kids plant seedlings. They turn into big trees). It took two guys with a cherry picker a week to get rid of them. Yes, I'm a tree-loving hippie, but the tops were breaking off of these in storms, they're non-native to the area, and were threatening the neighbors.
We live in a fairly tight neighborhood, they were in the corner of the property, could have done major damage to three different people's stuff on the way down.
Look! There were another 3 the size of this one, but this was the most dramatic. All those fences back there, three different neighbors. All were watching, and the guy dropped the tree perfectly. Amazing.
And, we're trying to buy a minivan. Which is kind of getting messed up in the process, but I'm still hoping we'll no longer be sharing one car, and my butt will be sitting in luxurious buttery leather very very soon.
I'm still in my jammies. . . and happy about that. Amelia slept until 6:30 this morning. YAY!!!!!! (we had to re-implement a little CIO this week)
Ugh, I'm with you. We had 45 minutes of crying last night, after which, tho, she slept five hours. What happened to "it works in three nights, tops!"? Lies, at least for me. But this is a happy thread, so yay for small victories!

boo that stinks :-(
DS has always been a good night sleeper - even when he was a week old he would sleep 4 hours, sometime 5 at night. It's tough to get him down for naps, but he loves his nighttime sleep. He's also kind of big which I have heard makes a difference.
I'm just glad this should be a low-key weekend, capped off with a date night concert for DW and I. Oh and I'm the only person in my department today so I might actually get some of my work done.
My family member who needs mental health care got accepted to the assistance program and is getting all his psychiatric care for $35/month. I am SO relieved about that!

what!? My rule is that I don't work unless someone else is in here working near me . We are all in this together!!!!1

I am a Steelers fan. Hopefully the game is like the playoff game the year before last - ya know - the one were we kept you out of the Superbowl........again ; )
Chilly, I would LOVE to talk to you about that story. We have been following it here (obviously) and are just fascinated and disgusted by it. So proud of the students though.
ETA - and yay! Congrats on the teaching job!
My happy - I'm going out for breakfast with my husband. A breakfast date AND getting out of the house for a bit. Double win right now.
My kids got their schedules and teacher assignments for school and both were pleased. DS is going into 4th grade and is so excited that school is starting next week. Their enthusiasm is rubbing off on me and I am hoping it will be a great year!

LOL! Is YH a Steelers fan too?
Having lived in both pittsburgh and baltimore I think the rivalry is different between the two cities. Ravens fans HATE steelers fans. But steelers fans are too busy mocking Cleveland and Cincy to really get personal with Baltimore. It's more a strictly sports thing with the yinzers I know, rather than a "omg, the ravens and their fans are the spawn of satan" kind of thing.
