Jackson had his first half day of school today. It's just a day with 4 other kids that will be in his class - he does this again on next Friday and then his first full day is the 28th. His teacher is really nice, if a little perky, and I didn't burst into tears when I said bye to him even though we were both tearing up. I made it to the car and didn't cry. This is a huge win, because after I dropped off his paperwork earlier this summer, I sobbed the whole way home. I am just really not ready for this, but at the same time, today has been very good (and hopefully he is having a good time), I am happy about these baby steps.
The other good thing is that my neighbor's kid is no longer at my house and I will never ever have to watch him again. They lied to me and took such advantage of me that my mind is honestly kind of blown by it (example: kid was at my house FORTY hours between Mon-Thu because they had "no one else" and "couldn't take off work" but yesterday when the mom called to tell me what time she'd be here to get him, she said she'd be late because if she worked until 6:30 she could take tomorrow off with her husband - they are BOTH fucking off today after using and abusing my kindness all week). Anyway, I am so happy it's over and that I will never ever feel guilty about telling them no again. I hope the week of maximum convenience for them and using me was worth it - because if they ever ask me again, I will say no immediately. Even if it's 5 minutes and getting their kid off the bus. So yeah... hope it was worth it, assholes!
MrP is a house husband today - his first every-other Friday off in the new job - so I got to sleep in and he helped out with a bunch of stuff and I'll come home to a clean house and dinner.
We're going to a wedding sans-kiddo tomorrow which should be fun and good to see old friends. Sunday I'm taking my mom to Les Miz.
We finally have tomatoes to harvest since the dogs killed the rat!
Yay for jobs and sleeping babies and weddings and cute pictures! Happy birthday to your little one sunmoonstars.
My happy is that we hired a drywall guy and he should start on tuesday. Our renovation is FINALLY making progress again!! Also apparently there is ice cream at work today. It's for a team I'm not actually a member of, but the person in charge of buying the goods is my cube neighbor and she said that I should just come anyway.
Thank you! I cannot believe she's almost a year old. I'm glad your renovation is going well because those can be pretty stressful.
I am a Steelers fan. Hopefully the game is like the playoff game the year before last - ya know - the one were we kept you out of the Superbowl........again ; )
LOL! Is YH a Steelers fan too?
Having lived in both pittsburgh and baltimore I think the rivalry is different between the two cities. Ravens fans HATE steelers fans. But steelers fans are too busy mocking Cleveland and Cincy to really get personal with Baltimore. It's more a strictly sports thing with the yinzers I know, rather than a "omg, the ravens and their fans are the spawn of satan" kind of thing.
No - he grew-up in CT, on the cusp of Patriots vs Giants. He is a Giants fan.
You are right - Steelers fans don't like the Ravens, but the level of contempt is not the same. If a Ravens fan goes to Pittsburgh, they'll get harassed and then invited over for a few beers/shots. Here - you run into the wrong section of fans and it's scary. I have friends who won't come here for games anymore. My friend's husband got sucker punched in Mother's two years ago. I did warn them to stay the hell away from there with Jerseys on though.

Ok, so I'm crossing you off my list of potential double dates then. We're an Eagles/Ravens household.

My DH submitted some ideas to his workplace's patent review board and they were approved! So they'll apply for the patents hopefully DH will one day be able to cross this off is bucket list.
Marie- LOL! Please do a drive by and send some T&Ps to the poor souls stuck there.
My baby is older than Mrsbecky's and sleeps shittier, but she actually only woke twice last night. Woot! And then woke for the day at 5 am. Whomp whomp.
boo that stinks
DS has always been a good night sleeper - even when he was a week old he would sleep 4 hours, sometime 5 at night. It's tough to get him down for naps, but he loves his nighttime sleep. He's also kind of big which I have heard makes a difference.
LilShirley is big, too, but apparently missed the baby meeting in which she was to be told to sleep better b/c of it.
Our first CIO goal honestly is just to get back to how she slept as a younger baby--2 night wakings.
I am sitting getting a pedi, house inspection is done for our fast sell (paying cash, wants 30 day closing), we found a house to live in while we look for one to buy and I am not working today! Woo hoo.

What a fun day for you!! Are you all moving to the 'burbs?
MrsDL - I do think Baltimore fans can be assholes to visiting Steelers fans. It's part of our inferiority complex I think. The only visiting fans that I really do hate are Yankees and Red Sox, even though they spend lots of money in our fine city.
I'm down with visiting fans as long as they are polite. Like you can cheer when your team scores a TD but don't make negative remarks about Ray Lewis's criminal record. LOL.
Of course one time we went to a Giants-Redskins game (H is a giants fan) at FedEX and we were next to this SUPER obnoxious Giants fan. Like we were embarrassed that people would think we were with him.
...we could start a "WTF do I do with my new Android device??" thread. Might be fun.
You'd get some great app recommendations, I'm sure.
- off to make breakfast.
I got an android. It's a galaxy s blaze 4G
I say that like I have any idea what it means. So far, I can't even figure out how to connect it to my office outlook email. This could get interesting.
Call the IT people at work. Ours set up work email on personal devices all the time.
I dragged myself out of bed and went to bootcamp this morning. I didn't put in my best effort ever, but it always feels good to just go and do it. I've made every class so far this session (6) and we're half way through.
We have summer Fridays! I can leave at 2, as long as my work is done. (Please, coworkers, let me work be done - I left at 3:15 last week.) If all goes well, I'll hit up a yoga class right after work, then I'll have time to go home and relax/clean/cook dinner.
My BFF is coming over for dinner, and she just started a new job on Wednesday, so I can't wait to hear about it. Also, I helped her plan out her commute (public transit) and she already told me the commuter bus is really nice, so I feel good about helping with that.
Tomorrow we are going to Sequoia National Park to visit a ghost town, MAYBE do a short hike (95+ degrees) and go have late lunch/early dinner and get a growler filled at a brewery.
Chilly, I would LOVE to talk to you about that story. We have been following it here (obviously) and are just fascinated and disgusted by it. So proud of the students though.
ETA - and yay! Congrats on the teaching job!
My happy - I'm going out for breakfast with my husband. A breakfast date AND getting out of the house for a bit. Double win right now.
YES, let's. I have such a connection to both the good guys and the bad guys, and it's just fascinating to me. I can't wait to hear what happens at the open meeting today. The board will have to fold and give the students back control if they ever hope to print another edition. I wish I were on campus to hear what students think, but I'm guessing no one will read a non-student paper after more than a century of successful student news.

We are . We are renting for a year to find a place/make sure we like being out of the city, but we're excited.
Try being a yankee fan here. Even when they aren't here the park gets all Yankees suck? Um, ok,
My husband is a Boston sports fan, but I promise you he is not a dick. He's the most mild-mannered sports fan I've ever seen. When the Pats won the AFC championship last year, he didn't even SAY anything. I was like, "WTF is wrong with you, your team is going to the Superbowl!"
MrsDL - Wise choice for a husband you made there. Hope Little DL is being raised a Giants fan!
The Steelers are hated because they're the Steelers. Some teams are just hated on a national level, and you either love that team or you hate that team. There is no indifference. See also: Cowboys. And maybe the Eagles, or that hatred just might be among Giants fans. And of course, the whole country loves the Giants.

I don't think the eagles get any kind of national level hatred like the steelers or cowboys. At least not that I've noticed anywhere I've lived. We get sideeyed for the whole booing santa clause thing, but that's different. The pats are climbing the ranks of "love to hates" among my football friends but that's just because they win all the time. And maybe that cheating thing. and also because brady is kind of a whiney baby who takes dives like he's playing soccer but at the same time is ridiculously talented and very smug so you really just wanna punch him.
One of my college BFF's is a giants fan. We manage a high level of cordial respect, even during football season. I'm proud of us for it. For me the giants-eagles rivalry is truly a rivalry. I want to the eagles to kick their asses, but it's not personal. We shittalk, but it's all in good fun. Whereas the cowboys are just a bunch of asshats, and I'd be happy if the team folded, and I think that people who grew up in the northeast and root for them are stupid.
I'm so glad football season is gearing up. There...another friday happy so I'm not just rambling in my usual off-topic manner.

We're going to Paso Robles for labor day weekend to celebrate our birthdays. We're finally hitting up Firestone Walker and making the winery rounds and staying in a fantabulous hotel.
-dinner tonight with friends...yay girl time! -the Urban Meyer bobblehead sitting in my car (shaddup. J's at work all day and begged me to pick one up at Donato's before they ran out so I figure that was a good excuse to have pizza for lunch) -I get to enjoy lovely amazing 50 degree temps tomorrow morning for my run, and am actually excited about it (even if said run starts at 630a) -NOTHING related to my sister's wedding. Hallefreakinglujah.

I'm jealous. I really want to go up to Firestone Walker. They're good. I need to get back down to San Diego too, because Stone is the only actually brewery I've visited there. Lost Abbey, Coronado, Green Flash.. all would be awesome to go to.
But anyway, we're going to Kern River Brewing Company. Randomly, we have a growler from there. Even though we live 3 hours away. But we have friends who go up and go hiking and rafting there a lot.
They have a double IPA, Citra, that's really popular and they're releasing it this weekend. Last year I heard they were directing most of the Citra up to your region instead of down here, which made it hard to find. I guess it's really popular in NorCal.
Ahhh jealousE! I've heard great things about Kern River but I've never seen it. I can't believe MrP didn't tell me (that I can remember) about the Citra release; our route to Paso goes through Fresno so maybe we can find some.
San Diego is some kind of awesome. There's a great brewery tour down there that hits Stone, Ballast Point, and a brewpub in San Marcos. Everytime we reminisce about that trip our eyes get glazey.
