desperate mama over here with a 5 week old who is up EVER SINGLE HOUR at night and naps for only 30-40 minutes during the day unless held. So exhausted and running out of steam....I am willing to purchase the mamaroo tomorrow if it's worth it. Did your LO nap long in it? And did it move quickly enough to keep them happy? TIA!!

You know, for us it wasn't. Could you borrow one from someone? My little guy preferred a hand me down Fisher Price Snug A Bunny swing, which rocked faster. The Rockaroo may be worth a try, though, because it looks like it rocks a little quicker.
I have a 2 week old and it has been a lifesaver. Especially when he is super fussy at night it helps calm him down. I was nervous reading reviews but it seems to be so subjective w each baby.
I don't have it but a friend that did said the motion wasn't strong enough for her kid. As others have mentioned, the rock and play was our savior. Also 5 Ss are helpful. Swaddle, shush, swing, suck and I can't remember the other one. Basically hold your baby, swing him (harder than you'd think), say shush loudly, and give a pacifier. That's my interpretation.
You're getting to the typical peak of fussiness. Hang in there, it gets better.
I've not heard very good things about the mamaroo. We had a different swing and DS only kind of liked it. We had the most luck bouncing on an exercise ball while holding him. As PPs mention, the 5 S's are pretty helpful too. Maybe pick up the Happiest Baby On The Block DVD instead of the mamaroo.
We had excellent luck with the autorock rock n play for our twins, but no experience with the mamaroo. We also really liked our regular FP snuggabunny swing, but it does take up a lot of space.
It is the one piece of baby gear I didn't bother keeping. It was pretty useless. She only liked it if she was mostly in a good mood.
Dd was a difficult infant and I ended up overnighting a snugabunny swing bc the mamaroo didn't cut it. I played with the rockaroo (sis is pg with twins) and it's pretty much the same.
Just get a big swing and watch the happiest baby on the block dvd.
It didn't really work for us. I'm sorry! I've been there and it seems like it never ends but it does. I'm not sure if you're FF or BF but could you have someone take the baby into another room at night for a feeding so you get a solid block? That's the only way I survived.

I received the FP snuga bunny since everyone told me I had to have it. Once assembled it was HUGE. And also broken. We have a small house, so we took the opportunity to return it in favor of the mamaroo for an extra 100.
We've only had it for a couple of days, but so far we have been happy with it. Esp yesterday when he was fussy after his circ. The mobile is kinda useless but I've read some parents add more interesting stuff to it. I wish it was slightly taller to clear bulldog height.
Ditto PPs on the mixed to negative reviews on the mamaroo. And on the swing recs. We didn't get a swing, and it's the one baby purchase I regret not making. DD was the same, if held she'd sleep for hours on end, in bassinet/crib she's be up in 20 minutes (it did get better though).
However, she was the one unicorn kid who hated the rock and play. Wouldn't sleep in it at all. I'd go with a regular swing and try that.
Do you know anyone who has any of these that you can try? I think all babies have their own preferences. DD liked the rock n play and would only sleep there during the colic days (or while being worn or in the car seat/stroller while being pushed around). She hated the swing.
I also recommend The Happiest Baby on the Block dvd. It's only about an hour long and had some stuff that we really needed for our colicky baby.
