I'm going to need more PIPs or links, people. Because when I google it, I get lots of scary runway shit and I can never divine what is actually the purpose of, well, this
Those are for when America Was Great (TM)!
I usually look at places that I shop for their fall lookbooks, but I'm not an expert.

I'm definitely going to wear the one on the left for the first day of classes this fall.

I wanted a black knee-height boot with a slight heel and a "tailored" shape. Apparently, this is barely even an option anymore. I wanted them to be sort of dressy-ish to go with skirts and nicer tunics, but not fully on high heeled dress boots. I wanted the happy-middle boot. Hard as hell to find. Born was the closest I could come and I don't love love them. They're just as close as I could find. Frye would probably work for brown/burgundy color because I want those for jeans and cords, but man, I could not find anything with a shape from Frye.
I own the Penny Boot from Sam Edelman and love them. Not really a heel, but a good slick boot.

If you could buy only two or three key pieces of clothing [for this coming fall season], what would you get? Something that could be used in multiple outfits.
That's possible. Can't really say I've liked JCrew much, either. Very hit or miss, more miss than hit. And BR has gone that direction as well.
Is there such a thing as sensible fashion? That's not Basic? I want that.
Among those types of stores...eh...I think maybe, Ann Taylor.
Well, again, 6'. Finding clothes that fit me properly leave me with limited prospects. I can find pants in many stores now, but shirts? Noooooooooooooooope.
I think I'm going to be boring this year and just wear pencil skirts, tights, and sweaters that I already have because we both need to get new winter coats and boots.
But I do think I'm going to save my money to finally buy giant-calf riding boots from Duo Boots.
I don't know what size your calves are, but also check out Ros Hommerson.
Since having a kid my foot is longer and narrower. I am somewhere in between an 11 and 11.5. The only brand that seems to fit me now is Ivanka Trump 11's. Thankfully the shoes are pretty cute, but it is very limiting. I might be able to wear some Cole Haan's too, but that is more iffy and I usually have to order online.
Yeah, I've seen those on Zappos. I need to re-measure my calves. I can't remember if I'm at 18 or 18.5 inches. Sometimes I'll search for wide calf boots and get results with a 15-inch circumference. L.O.L. that 15 inches is wide. #fatcalves4evah

What about these?
I have a brown pair that looks almost identical to these and they are the most comfortable boots ever.
Boots that will pair well with the boho style but won't look crazy with other things, so suede or leather in colors saddle, gray, moss, or cognac.
I need these in my life.
ETA: Filtering by my size on Zappos literally halved my number of options. There are exactly 17 boots in my size under $100. More than half those are rain boots. Goddammit.
The 80s were a really traumatic decade for me, fashion wise....
Good news is - the 80's are over.
Better news is - we are here to help.
Seriously I went from 11 to 20 in the 80's. I know all about it being traumatic at times.
Well, it was exascerbated by the fact that I was 5'11" by 5th grade.... so nothing fit right for the entirety of my grade school years - especially middle school. And when you stick out like a sore thumb because you're taller than, uh, everyone. Well. May as well paint a giant bullseye on and be done with it.
