If you could buy only two or three key pieces of clothing [for this coming fall season], what would you get? Something that could be used in multiple outfits.

But how do you wear it? I feel like you can't wear it with jeans, so where does that leave you?
My go to is over a black dress with boots. I've also got a couple summer dresses that I wear jean jackets over in the fall. You could also throw it over a skirt and blouse, or white jeans and a blouse (think bright coral or yellow) in the spring/summer.
I think I'm going to be boring this year and just wear pencil skirts, tights, and sweaters that I already have because we both need to get new winter coats and boots.
But I do think I'm going to save my money to finally buy giant-calf riding boots from Duo Boots.
I don't know what size your calves are, but also check out Ros Hommerson.
Since having a kid my foot is longer and narrower. I am somewhere in between an 11 and 11.5. The only brand that seems to fit me now is Ivanka Trump 11's. Thankfully the shoes are pretty cute, but it is very limiting. I might be able to wear some Cole Haan's too, but that is more iffy and I usually have to order online.
Mine went from 10 to 10.5-11. I feel your pain.
Do you know how many companies make shoes in a size 10.5? Like, three. They're all like eh, 11 is good enough, once you get that big what's the difference? THERE IS A DIFFERENCE!

Where can I find skirts like below. Most skirts I see in stores are pencil skirts. I love the texture color and shape of the first but it's short for me. I love the length of the second.

I need an "adult" wardrobe. I had a very small one while in teacher's college and most of it is well worn, especially the couple pairs of long pants I had. So I need to buy... everything? Yet I feel like a bit out of place in work clothes so I feel like I need to keep an eye on what's in here and see what I can find in stores that I like.
Actually, needing to buy everything is a lie. I actually bought a couple fall/winter coats last year and booties, so at least I don't have to buy those more expensive items.
I do want a nice structured purse. We'll see if I can get my DH on board for that sort of purchase.
Yeah, I've seen those on Zappos. I need to re-measure my calves. I can't remember if I'm at 18 or 18.5 inches. Sometimes I'll search for wide calf boots and get results with a 15-inch circumference. L.O.L. that 15 inches is wide. #fatcalves4evah
The other part of this, as another 18-inch calfer, is that I have a size 7 foot and for some reason manufacturers who make the big calf boots can't grasp that my foot is short. So the 18-inch boots won't come in a 7, they'll come in an 11. TICKS ME OFF. SOME OF US JUST THICK IN THE DAMN LEG, SHIT.
I have skinny legs and size 6 wide feet. Boots never fit me either. It is definitely frustrating. I want to look cute too, but I can never get something that fits in the feet and leg. One or both is always messed up to get a sort of fit.
Between this and sending me that laura mercier palette, you are officially one of my very favorite people. These boots would make me feel better about fall coming, I just know it!
But I have a wide foot too. I can't tell if the W just refers to the calf. I will chat with their live help to see what I can find out
I also ordered this black one because I love the patterned version.
Right now I am wearing the blue and white one with nude strappy wedges. I have no idea how to style it once it gets cooler. What color tights could you wear with that?
I suck at coordinating anything that isn't super plain.

I am wearing my black LE keyhole dress today. Paired with a cardigan!

Not that you were asking for advice, but if I needed everything, I'd pretty much ignore most of this thread. I'd use this fall to build my core wardrobe, mostly classic pieces (wool/wool blend trousers, cashmere sweaters, pencil skirts, wool/wool blend sheaths, blazers, one or two well-tailored oxford shirts, a trench coat, a few good pumps etc.) and then add a few trendy pieces next year. You can always make your classic pieces current by getting a statement item that has an element of a trend, but isn't exactly trendy. For example, I have a pair of camel wool high waisted Calvin Klein Collection pants that I bought probably 15 years ago. I wear them every fall and winter and they work every time, because even though high waisted pants aren't always as hot as they are this fall, the color and fabric are classic and moreover, they fit me like a glove, so they always look great. I just wouldn't want to spend any money this year getting things I might not care about next year and then be in the same place next fall, you know?
shop.leota.com/collections/wear-to-work I would be all about this company if they had clothes in my size. Woman owned and run, made in NY, and the owner is great. Will try to load up some pictures but I am on my phone.
Here's some looks/inspiration I'm liking for fall (some of the styling is questionable): (
I cut off a few of the images, but looking at this pictures, I know people have strong opinions on Zara, but they are nailing it in the runway-to-main street department this season. A ton of these looks are on their website right now.
