This is the only face I can make . Who the hell gets married on 9/11 and gives out box cutters as a wedding favour?! (WTC cake and box cutters on the bottom pic). These people make me sick
A founding member of the band Devo reportedly had a 9/11-themed wedding on the 14th anniversary of the terror attacks.
TMZ leaked photos of the terror attack-themed wedding of Jerry Casale and Krista Napp on Monday.
In the photo, Casale and his bride are seen smiling next to two cakes shaped like the Twin Towers. One cake has a picture of the bride, and the second has a picture of the groom. The guests also reportedly got box cutters as party favors, and the place cards were also box cutter-themed.
BuzzFeed News has contacted Devo for comment, but a guest told TMZ that no one seemed to think the theme was offensive.
“Jerry has ‘real heart as an artist, and is a super sweet guy,’” they said. TMZ reported that the couple is known to have “a dark and strange sense of humor.”
The New York Times article was written a bit better. My stomach turned reading this though.
For Michele Miller, whose brother Mitchell Wallace, a state court officer who died while trying to save others on 9/11, Casale didn’t just cross the line — he obliterated it.
“I am in disbelief that someone would think to turn that day into a wedding day theme,” Miller said in an email to the Daily News.
“Shame on him, his wife, his guests, and even the restaurant for participating in such garbage,” she added. “A box cutter? My brother turned to ashes as the South Tower fell on him and people died at the Pentagon because of box cutters.”
These narcissistic, vile assholes are make me want to puke. Reading that last line was heart breaking.
Why did this travesty get past the discussion phase to execution. Not one person said '"This is inappropriate and sick to call the deaths of thousands a "theme". What happened to human decency and respect. I can't wrap my head around this.
A box cutter is a razor encased in a sheath. It was the weapon of choice of the 9/11 terrorists to get through security and gain control of the airplanes.

Gotcha. That's pretty sick. Eta: I call it a utility knife so that's where I was confused. I recognize the item in the photo now.
Devo co-founder Jerry Casale has apologised after images of his September 11-themed wedding cake were made public. The performer - who married Krista Napp in California on the 14th anniversary of the terrorist attack in New York - has said that the cake was a “surprise” from a friend, and that the incident was a “set-up”.
In pictures obtained by TMZ, the couple are pictured behind a large wedding cake resembling the World Trade Center twin towers, with cut out images of their faces on top.
Casale has since suggested that his cake was not organised by the couple themselves, but a friend.
According to the musician, they had chosen the date to get married out of necessity, as the Beverly Hills courthouse is only open on Fridays, and that was the last Friday available before their marriage application expired.
The cake was, according to Casale, a response to comments he had previously made to a friend who questioned the choice of their wedding date, that he and Napp “are the twin towers of love”. Casale told Billboard that one friend who heard that explanation offered to take care of the cake, which was delivered to the couple after dinner.
“He thought it was some sort of transgressive sick humour, and the problem is, it’s not funny,” Casale said of his friend.
Casale also told Billboard that the media attention the photo has received “ruined our wedding”, and that he was “surprised at the attention” it was receiving.
Casale had previously caused controversy following his satirical Jihad Jerry and the Evildoers venture. His full-length album, Mine Is Not a Holy War, in 2006, was naturally met with criticism.
“People are kind of freaked out by the Jihad Jerry stuff,” he is quoted as saying. “I thought they’d all think it was really funny and get off on it, but people are really offended and scared.”

Who wants to think back on their wedding day and think about something like this? Gross.
And LOL at "bitch set me up!" If our baker showed up with that cake I would happily send them back home with the cake and demand my money back. And then I'd take everyone out for ice cream instead.
The back-pedaling explanation still didn't explain the box cutters.
Right?? What possible explanation could there be for that?
I could even SORT OF REMOTELY VAGUELY see the stupid "twin towers of love" thing. But box cutters? "Oh LOL people's throats got slit with these isn't that clever?" Jesus.
This seems like they were purposefully trying to be offensive.
That said, nursewife calling anyone a vile asshole is making my morning.
I'm doing my best to learn as much as possible. I've said I don't like my ignorance when it comes to racial topics. If I didn't want to learn more and do better I would have given up on the board instead of continuing to read up on topics I previously hadn't. You can call me an asshole all you want, but I'm doing my best to be a better person rather than taking the easy way out and continuing on in ignorance.

The thought of seeing that makes my stomach churn. I just don't get how that would have seemed like an appropriate wedding theme to them, ever.

Hey, reading comprehension is fun. I didn't call you a vile asshole. I said you calling someone that was making my morning, as in, I found it amusing.
Stay or go, I don't really care. I was just commenting on something I found funny, so I don't need your blah blah blah, Billy Madison I'M HERE TO LEARN explanation.
