So I'm really glad I've been tracking my glucose on my own. My fasting numbers have averaged 88, close to the 90 cut-off which was making me nervous. I did some research and determined I should probably be eating a snack in the evening -- we eat dinner around 5:30/6 and then I don't eat again until 7 am. Last night I had an apple and PB at 9, and when I took my fasting at 5 am it was 81!!! I feel so much better about that number, I hope snacking does the trick.

I know it varies by doctors. But for me, my fasting has to be 95 or less. Most of the time I'm nowhere close to that and am in the 80s, but unless you were told specifically to be below 90 I wouldn't worry too much. I've been hanging out on a Facebook age for GD, and it seems to vary on whether doctors want the fasting under 90 or 95. I'm not sure what the reasoning is for the variation.
A night time snack definitely will help balance out your fasting numbers though.

My doc said they use 90 for their fasting goal. They said I don't HAVE to test but it's fine if I do and if I have concerns to let them know. I think I have the special crazy patient note . If the baby wasn't so big I would be a lot less concerned.

awick14 - hoping for good results at your next ultrasound!
If any of you had early symptoms (5-ish weeks) did your symptoms die down earlier? I'm no longer nauseous (which I obviously don't miss but it was still a good sign that things were going well) or even feeling pregnant for the most part I am still pretty tired, but that could be pregnancy or just life with a full-time job and crazy 3 year old, ya know?!
October 20th (NT scan/Panorama test) can't get here fast enough!!!

First beta result is back. 724 at 19 dpo. Betabase median is 852. The clinic seemed happy with the number. I'm cautiously optimistic. Repeat is tomorrow and first u/s on Monday.

I had my second ultrasound Monday. Baby looks great with a beautiful little beating heart. The bleed shrunk a bit, but it's still there. I know I'm in for 3 more weeks of bedrest but doc said he might even keep me off my feet until 12 weeks which would be 2 more weeks! Ugh! The little shrimp is worth it though. :-)

jessnpaul my symptoms were up and down for the first 16 weeks. Nausea was off and on until 12. The only thing that suck was being TOTALLY exhausted. I think it's normal for symptoms to come and go. I get where you're at though- I would just pray that I would vomit or get excited at nausea, just for some reassurance.

@cookiemonster03 not officially through my job but my speciality training is in drug information so I literally read and analyze clinical trials all day so it comes in handy. My husband also runs the diabetes clinic for the school of medicine here and treats a lot of GD patients so he is my test strip / meter supplier and helps me plan my meals and stuff.

Yes exactly! I mean the nausea sucks but it's so reassuring!

I was on bedrest for about 9 weeks (from 23-32 weeks when I had to deliver early) with my last pregnancy. 4.5 of that was in the hospital.
I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Home was a zillion times better, but to not be able to do anything gets old real quick!!! There's only so many books and so much television one can watch!

I hope your bedrest goes quickly!Â
Thankfully I can work from home so my days are spent working. And Netflix is a god send!
Is anyone else planning on doing hypnobabies? I started last night.
I used Bradley method with #1, but definitely plan to look into and practice hypno birthing if I make it that far with this pg. I was not prepared for what labor was, last time.

I have been crying all morning, I'm so frustrated and disappointed and sad. I gained 4 lbs this week, so now since around 20 weeks I'm up 15 lbs. My doctor said I shouldn't gain anything during pregnancy and try to keep losing. I'm clearly failing at that, but I don't know what to do. He told me to follow a GD diet and eat 2000 calories a day, keep working out. I'm tracking and measuring all my food. Working out every single day plus walking 3 times a day. I seriously don't know what else to do, short of going back to pre-pregnancy cals and cutting down my carbs super low like I was but that doesn't seem like a great idea. I don't think I can up the intensity of my workouts and according to my fit but I get around at least 100 active minutes a day. I shouldn't be surprised, even when I was losing 10 lbs a month it was all during the follicular phase each month and then I gained every treatment cycle as well. I think my body freaks out with progesterone or something. I know I'm going to get a massive lecture on Monday at my appt so I'm bringing all my food journals with me. I feel like they will just say I'm not trying hard enough.

So many hugs, boiler717. I hope your doctor is understanding, and maybe even offers something positive to say. It sounds like you're doing what you can, so try not to be too hard on yourself.
boiler717, not to question your doctor, but how is that healthy and reasonable for you to NOT gain any weight during pregnancy? Even starting out overweight during a pregnancy shouldn't mean you don't gain any. I'm sorry your having a rough day. ((Hugs))
And my due date just got bumped up to 10/30 after today's appt. Even though that's only a few days change, it makes it feel so much more real now that it's the month of my due date. Unless he goes late (which is obviously a possibility), I'm having a baby this month! Yikes!

I think that's a fair point. Weight gain in obese women in pregnancy is all over the board -- I don't know if there is a clear consensus. I think a lot of HCPs have the thought that obese women must have poor diets, so if they follow a healthy pregnancy diet they should lose weight in pregnancy. My pre-pregnancy diet was too restrictive for pregnancy, so in order to meet "healthy pregnancy diet" goals I had to increase both calories and carbohydrates. So I don't know how that plays into expect weight gain or not. I think regardless the max for the entire pregnancy would be 10-20 lbs. If you include IVF weight gain I'd be over that, if you don't I'm still getting close.

That's so exciting!! Why did they move it? I didn't think they would with IVF pregnancies!

boiler717 Yeah, I'm with Geezles on this. Everything I have seen says that even starting at a clinically obese BMI, a woman should gain 11-20lb. I understand if he wanted you to try to lose a bit in the early stages so you'd net out the same, but you are tracking and working out a LOT. Does your Dr know how much you are already doing? He's kind of a dick if he does and is still pushing you to lose weight. According to ACOG, you should be gaining roughly 0.5lb/wk at this point in your pregnancy. Bring this shit to your next appointment and whip it out if he starts up again -- www.acog.org/Resources-And-Publications/Committee-Opinions/Committee-on-Obstetric-Practice/Weight-Gain-During-Pregnancy
Also, they were on me a bit about my weight (they wanted me to only gain 15-20, but I gained 35), saying that my baby would be OMG SO BIG and how I'd have to have a c-section and I would have SO much trouble losing the weight after the baby. Well, he was 5lb 9oz FFS and practically fell out of my cavernous hush hush, and I didn't have any more trouble losing that weight than any other weight.
I'm not by any means saying that gaining a ton of weight is fine, and I do think that not discussing the potential implications of excessive weight gain would be negligent. BUT. You are doing so many things right, and your doctor should be helping you to navigate the end of your pregnancy in a way that is most healthy for you and your child. Beating down a hormonal woman? Yeah, that's not the way.
