I don't. Because he was too pretty in Titanic to be taken seriously? I don't know. I don't see how anyone could watch Basketball Diaries or Gilbert Grape and not think he is simply phenomenal.
Is it not conceivable that, while he has been great, there were others who were better?
Of course it's conceivable. Just seems improbable that every single time he gets edged out legitimately. There have been a ton of great roles he's played, and a ton of winners that I've side eyed over the years.

Well, I do think he doesn't campaign to win awards. If you look at other people who have won (Anne Hathaway, Eddie Redmayne), they go to so many events prior to the Oscars. I honestly think that makes a difference.
I was looking at Leo's past Oscar nominations this morning and I can see how he was bested most times. I still think there's some blackballing going on because he wasn't nominated for The Departed and Django Unchained. I don't know who won those years but he was pretty spectacular in both.
Eta: Nevermind. It probably would've been a supporting nomination for Django and I'm glad Christoph Waltz won.
You know how sometimes publicists put celebrity "couples" together for...well, publicity? I have wondered if that's what happened with the whole J Law/ Amy Schumer BFF-dom shoved down everyone's throat. And if so, I have to say I think it backfired. I don't even mind Amy Schumer that much, but together they grate on me for some reason.
Meh, I kind of hope he doesn't win. Surely he will retire to his yacht with his harem of models if he gets the Oscar, so let's get another 10-20 years of acting out of him before we let that happen.
I think his earlier losses were probably more about whoever else was up and deserved it or whatever nonsense was going on at the time. Maybe he hadn't earned it yet. I don't think it had much to do with him specifically. Maybe he wasn't into campaigning for it. Because the campaigns are important.
I think his later losses were deserved. Especially for Wolf of Wall Street. That movie was too long and his role/actimg was nothing spectacular.
But I don't like Leo. I think he will win and I am biased by the gossip sites I read about how desperately he is campaigning for this.
Unrelated to Leo, I never will be over JLaw because she's a Louisville girl.

I loved Waltz in Django and Inglorious Basterds, but I think Leo deserved to be nominated for Django as well. His performance was every bit as strong. But I think the academy was so enamored with Silver Linings Playbook that De Niro got added to the list instead.
I hope Leo wins this year, because he nearly killed himself for The Revenant. I'm worried what he'll do to himself physically if this isn't enough again for the Academy. lol
If he doesn't win this year, eventually there will come a point where he is nominated for a mediocre role/movie and he will be awarded the Oscar and everyone will say it's to make up for his past snubs/body of work as a whole. Or he'll get the lifetime achievement/honorary Oscar (see Peter O'Toole, nominated 8 times, no wins).
Martin Scorcese didn't win until his 5th nomination as a director. Glenn Close has been nominated 6 times and never won!
I think he was thought of as a party/pretty boy for too long? I think he really does campaign for these awards though. He wants that Oscar.

This is the Oscars, not Survivor.
I don't think eating raw liver is necessarily amazing Oscar-worthy acting.
Are you all basing your support for Leo on having just watched The Revenant? Have you watched the other performances?

OMG I know.
Or The Departed!
Or Blood Diamond!
Or Inception!
He is just so incredible.
Oh god no. His horrific attempt at a Boston accent almost ruined that movie for me.
And once he was nominated for "what's eating Gilbert Grape" and lost? I get what you are saying, but it seems more than just being second best.
We can agree to disagree.
Seriously, though, obviously I'm not at Oscar-level at anything in my life, but I have literally been second-best far more times than six!
I'm LOL'ing that everyone is conceding that he was second-best all those times. There are probably times he wasn't even second-best. He was not first or second, IMO, for The Aviator. Jaime Foxx and Clint Eastwood were better than he was that year. And he may have been last on the list the year he was nominated for Wolf of Wall Street, possibly ahead of only Christian Bale.
Also, he's lost 4 times, no? Where is everyone getting 6?

I haven't watched any of them, other than the Martian. And I was joking. Hence the lol at the end.

I am conceding nothing.
Everybody else is convinced he was THE BEST every single time!
The Revenant is his 6th nomination. He had two nominations for Wolf of Wall Street because he was a producer or something so the best picture nom counts towards his personal count.
