I'm LOL'ing that everyone is conceding that he was second-best all those times. There are probably times he wasn't even second-best. He was not first or second, IMO, for The Aviator. Jaime Foxx and Clint Eastwood were better than he was that year. And he may have been last on the list the year he was nominated for Wolf of Wall Street, possibly ahead of only Christian Bale.
Also, he's lost 4 times, no? Where is everyone getting 6?
I am conceding nothing.
Everybody else is convinced he was THE BEST every single time!
Not me. I don't get the indignation over him not winning yet.

Seriously, though, obviously I'm not at Oscar-level at anything in my life, but I have literally been second-best far more times than six!

I think they are throwing in the Best Picture producing nod he received.
I like Leo, but he was not the best the other times he was nominated. He may win this year. I'm indifferent if he does.
I love JLaw but she needs to drop David O Russel like a hot potato. He's an asshole. I'm also completely over her and Bradley Cooper. I want to see her do something else. (Not with Amy Schumer either)
I love Cate Blanchett and think she may win. Carol was slooooooow but she was spectacular in it.
Is it not conceivable that, while he has been great, there were others who were better?
I know that crew people hate him. He cost the production of the Revenant a ton of extra money and time because he kept flying back to LA unannounced and leaving entire crews to wait for him in the middle of nowhere in -40 temps. By all accounts he was a giant pussy the entire time about the elements. Maybe he deserves the oscar for appearing to weather it, lol.

I don't know that it's this so much as, 'how could he have NOT been the best ONE of those times.' Like, it's statistically improbable or something? Which doesn't really apply to Oscar wins, but whatever. The "Leo got snubbed again" joke has been around for awhile.
So I read somewhere that David O Russell is massive dick to extras and stuff and Geroge Clooney was so put off by him that he said he'd never work with him again.
Also, I still haven't gotten over Sandra Bullock and Helen Hunt winning oscars for best actress. Helen Hunt was an abomination in As Good As it Gets.
I think the thing that bothers me about her is that she is so oooo young already but looks even younger in film. I just shook my head at Joy with her having kids and being a parent. I can't reconcile her playing 'adult' roles when she looks like a high school kid. Maybe it is just me and I am being a youngist but she needs to age more.
I also felt this way with Leo has he had such a baby face but age has done him really well. I really hope he wins. And, go Sylvester!!!!! I would be so happy if he won.

This is straight-up ridiculous. Fucking Hollywood ageism.
If he doesn't win this year, eventually there will come a point where he is nominated for a mediocre role/movie and he will be awarded the Oscar and everyone will say it's to make up for his past snubs/body of work as a whole. Or he'll get the lifetime achievement/honorary Oscar (see Peter O'Toole, nominated 8 times, no wins).
Martin Scorcese didn't win until his 5th nomination as a director. Glenn Close has been nominated 6 times and never won!
I think he was thought of as a party/pretty boy for too long? I think he really does campaign for these awards though. He wants that Oscar.
I agree with this.
Sometimes I seriously wonder if they just put Leo in as filler. Like, they have no interest in actually giving him the award, they just don't like the other contenders "So what the heck, let's put in Leo."
It was almost sad when Martin Scorcese won. The Departed was good and all, but it was no Goodfellas.

Wut? Not at all. She was supposed to be late 30's, early 40'so in the film and think she was casted wrong. She is so young looking that it is hard for me to picture her as a 40 year old with children. I thought the same of American Hustle. I am not sure what is wrong with saying she can't pull off looking like a 40 year old when she is 24.

Oh, wait, I think I misunderstood what you were saying. I thought you were saying I was ridiculous but never mind. I think. Lol.

Is this reverse ageism now? Lol.
I think pants was referring to the fact that they cast a 25-year old to play a 40-year old instead of hiring an actual 40-year old actress.
