Florida teenager Trayvon Martin died from a single gunshot wound to the chest fired from “intermediate range,” according to an autopsy report reviewed Wednesday by NBC News.
The official report, prepared by the medical examiner in Volusia County, Fla., also found that the 17-year-old Martin had one other fresh injury – a small abrasion, no more than a quarter-inch in size – on his left ring finger below the knuckle.
Separately, a medical report on Martin’s alleged killer, 28-year-old George Zimmerman, prepared by his personal physician the day after Martin’s shooting in Sanford, Fla., on Feb. 26, found that the Neighborhood Watch volunteer suffered a likely broken nose, swelling, two black eyes and cuts to the scalp. That report, first reported Tuesday by ABC News, also was reviewed by NBC News.
Both documents are part of a mountain of evidence – up to 300 pages and 67 CDs of witness statements, surveillance videos and other material-- expected to be made public soon in connection with the second-degree murder case against Zimmerman.
Zimmerman allegedly shot Martin during a confrontation inside the gated community in Sanford where Zimmerman was a neighborhood volunteer and where Martin was visiting his father’s fiancée.
The bolded is mine. I do not understand how Trayvon could have caused so much damage to Zimmerman and only end up with on 1/4 inch abrasion on one finger.
I think Zimmerman's personal doctor is a lying liar who lies from his lie hole
uhhhhhhh, agreed. You ever seen someone fresh from a fight with black eyes/broken nose? They do NOT look right at all. There is no way he could have had all that done to him and been strolling into the P.D. on survaillance with no obvious "I was just in a fist fight" indications.

And the abrasion was on his left hand...is he left-handed? Not to be all CSI here, but I would expect that any abrasion that resulted from punching a guy in the face hard enough to break his nose would be above the knuckle on the dominant hand. Unless he pushed him down to the ground face first?
Scientific evidence aside, how awful it must be for this boy's parents to have to read this (and have it be all over the news, in their face).
This whole case saddens me so much. I really don't think there is any way in hell that Zimmerman could be as injured as his personal doctor claims and Trayvon only injury was the lethal gunshot.
I call Bull Shit. You get a tiny cut on your hand after supposedly pummeling a dude's face in? Riiiiggghhhhttt. If that were the case, boxers would not need gloves and protective tape on their hands.
So that means that Zimmerman's doctor can produce a big ol' xray of a broken nose, riiiiiiight? (Yeah, I'm guessing not).
Or if he did have all these injuries, he did them to himself. If they were real, how else could these injuries not appear on the police video, but suddenly have them the next morning? He had plenty of time to think about his situation and realize that documented injuries would help his case.
I say this not to defend Zimmerman but because I can't remember - but weren't there images released after the police tape that do show injuries to the back of his head, etc.?
I would think that since Trayvon was shot at intermediate range, that shows the two were not grappling/fighting. The shot would have been fired at a much closer range.
Easy with the conspiracies. IF it's true that Martin slammed Zimmerman's head into the concrete repeatedly, it is not hard to imagine Zimmerman suffering more injuries than Martin. Grab someone by the hair and slam slam slam.
As I said in another thread, both times I broke my nose, the bleeding lasted 10 minutes. The bruising, swelling and black eyes were much more apparent the next morning.
I am very interested in the evidence, and I have no idea what really happened yet. And neither do you.

Vanessa, how does a person get to the point of grabbing a large man to slam their head without some sort of scuff first? And even if your head is slammed, wouldn't you be trying to at least reach out and hit or scratch? There would be something. I've watched CSI.
Plus, intermediate range. So, Zimmerman gets his head slammed, gets away, then shoots?

I said it before, but I've seen a dude get his head slammed repeatedly into the sidewalk. He did not walk away from the event under his own power. And it was really, really apparent that he'd just had his face slammed into the sidewalk.

Valid points. However, how do you get a broken nose from someone slamming your head on the ground repeatedly and still be able to walk under your own power (as seen in the police video)? A broken nose would suggest some type of blow to the face by Trayvon, yet he only had one "papercut" size cut on one finger. Sure, he could have used his head to produce a blow to Zimmerman's face but there would be evidence of that in the autopsy report.
As for your comment about grabbing someone by the hair and "slam, slam and slam", that would work in some cases but Zimmerman had no hair to grab onto.
Personal doctor? WTF? When someone independent tells me this same information then perhaps I'll listen.
Right. If he were injured, it would have been noted in the police report and EMTs would have been called. Did that happen? Or have they not released that info yet?

IIRC, the police report mentioned that he was checked out by EMT. Later it came out that he was not transported by EMT to hospital for any further treatment. The City of Sanford website used to have a quick link to the police report and other Trayvon Martin related info but now I cannot find it.

I don't really know. I'm not on Zimmerman's side, yo. I just think it's a bit premature for people to be so sure he caused his own injuries. And genuine injuries still don't necessarily mean anything, there is still room for guilt of murder there.
But damn, never seen people sure of so much before the mountain of evidence has all come out.

I was watching The Today show this morning and they said they got a copy of the autopsy report which stated a 1/4" to 1/8" cut (maybe abrasion) on his ring finger and that there were burn marks from a close range shot. Also that he was shot from the front. Articles I read yesterday were all saying that Trayvon had bruised knuckles, so ridiculous. How does The Today show get a copy of the autopsy report but Trayvon's family doesn't? Andplusalso, didn't the funeral director who dressed Trayvon's body say that there was no sign of any fight?
Scientific evidence aside, how awful it must be for this boy's parents to have to read this (and have it be all over the news, in their face).
I've had to read the autopsy reports of two teenagers in the past year for work. All I could think while reading both was, "This kid's poor parents. I can't imagine..."
The details in an autopsy report can be so personal, they'd be tough to read period, without the media glare. Magnify it a million times over in the Trayvon Martin case and, again, his poor family.
As to the findings themselves, yeah, I'm guessing if you inflict major injuries on someone in a fight, you're going to have more than one tiny little scrape on your hand. Holy jeez.

If he really did have a bloody broken nose, I would at least expect him to still be holding some gauze or something under it when at the police station. That stuff gushes, for awhile.
Vanessa, I do believe there has been a mountain of evidence. At least enough to say, no, Zimmerman, you're a lying sack of shit.

If the back of his head was slammed into the curb, how did he get a broken nose? Or black eyes?
You have to hit someone pretty hard to give them a broken nose and two black eyes. I find it hard to believe that doing this left NO injuries on Trayvon's hands apart from a small abrasion.
How does The Today show get a copy of the autopsy report but Trayvon's family doesn't?
Aren't autopsy reports open records? All it takes is a request.
Maybe I missed it, but I don't think there's any mention of them not receiving the report.
Regarding autopsy report = open records, not in all cases. At least in Texas, if there is a criminal investigation or CPS involved a "hold" (for lack of better term) can be placed on the report until investigation is complete.
