From an outsider's perspective, Kirkette just comes across as someone who doesn't give a shit anymore, isn't going to edit her posts because of your feelings, and has too much time on her hands due to the transition to being the SAHM/CEO/CFO/CHRO/Philanthropist of her household. She comes across as no more braggy than other posters who are notorious for it here. I can see where if she had been my friend, the shift would be noticeable and maybe hurtful at times, but she has been upfront about what she is doing. It doesn't read crazy to me, and I can follow the majority of her posts.
I'm two days behind since I never go on MMM and was busy taking self congratulatory pictures of my house, but I agree.
I have noticed that @kirkette circa 2016 pulls no punches and is just fed up and more WOT-y on all/many topics on here. Which is a shift from her former posting style. It is also, sometimes, hard to follow (for me) due to the tangents and asides. So, I BELIEVE what I see SOME people saying is "I want to follow the logic of your post and am losing the thread of your argument and I really wish I weren't."
While that is absolutely influenced by the fact that I (and others) am coming to things with a different perspective and lack of certain contexts (i.e., my privilege), I think it also may be that I presume in PART this is because with more time to post and being fired up on a subject, she's writing the way she speaks. Without seeing and hearing some of the train of thought is lost.
I know if I wrote the way I speak, you all would think likewise (likely worse because I'm a gesticulator and prone to hyberbole like whoa). I am better with words on here than in person because I can edit and when, for example, I forget a word (which I frequently do) I can just wait for the word to come instead of making a turning gesture with my hand and calling it the "door unlocky thing, you know?!?!" when I blank on "key."
Anyway, this took forever to type on my phone between calls so I'm probably super behind again.
*wheeze because I am sick with the most wretched flu and every sound that comes out of me is more in wheeze-speak than laughter or other similar vocalizations
I understand the concept of microaggressions. I understand that a black woman may perceive (and has the right to perceive) these descriptions however she wants to.
But are you all really skewering @booby for word choice?
Or do your issues run deeper than this?
Because the threat of posting a poll about how a group feels about one poster is a pretty low blow in my book.
I don't know booby. Also, I speak only for myself, but if she can call three black women scary, then maybe she should consider how black women might think about her. I've seen her now go really hard after two black women posters (I will not name names) and I think that, those posts, combined with "scary," and her voicing her faux confusion/disdain toward the term "get your cousins" are all microaggressions, if not straight up aggressions. I wasn't going to touch that flammables thread, because frankly, I didn't see it the way that kirkette saw it and when I got her tag, I reenacted the Grandpa Simpson gif lol. That battle just wasn't for me, but calling smo, kirkette and Koko scary is a pretty low blow in my book. It's a fucking message board. What exactly does she think these scary black women in another country are going to do to her, to the extent that she can't voice her thoughts? Anyway, the short answer is that yes, she is being skewered for her word choice and yes, there are other issues, at least from my POV.
Nobody likes being called scary. I'm pretty sure of that. Nobody. Even toledo!
But it is worse when you are a black woman and you get called scary.
Is this too simplistic? (I omitted all the history, rationale, etc. that has already been discussed above.)
Not too simplistic, but essentially yes.
Framed another way, if you tell a skinny person she has a pretty face, she will probably take it as a compliment, whereas if you tell someone who is overweight she has a pretty face, she may be hurt by it (even if meant sincerely) because her history with that particular terminology is painful.

Damn.
Well, I've got no good response for this, except to thank you for taking the time to answer and clarify the backstory.

I think words and context matters. I don't expect people do get things like this right all the time. I am, however, disappointed that multiple black women, including two fairly long time posters, have said that it's not great because of the history of that word with black women, particularly when nobody was actually being threatening, the main response has been that she didn't mean it that way and she's not racist and we are being ridiculous. Like, what?
It makes it feel like our opinions on this topic don't matter, because we have all talked before a ton about how intent doesn't trump all. But now that it's a favorite, none of that matters.
That's kinda all I have to say, I guess. I'm bummed out about the boards these last few weeks.
I do not think any black woman is being ridiculous on this matter.

But...can we call this thread a success...if only because 05heel is back?
Because come on.
Unity Horse on that.
Lol! maybe a unity donkey/ass. But I never left! I took some time off of work and I tend to post here only when I'm being paid. It has been a minute though now that I think of it.
again, it's a mere coincidence that the three people i referred to as scary just so happen to be black. why can't this be understood? this is just like the original fight. kirkette failed to see that people were calling her unintelligible b/c of her posts and her language and her tangents and screenplays. she refused to see that and kept assigning those criticisms to her race argument.
in the midst of my revelation that kirkette has displayed zero class, grace and finish in the last 2 days, i am confronted by smo/who? and what i interpreted to be somewhat of a head-tilting threat from koko, i lumped the whole three into the scary category. this was clearly wrong b/c it spawned all of ::this::.
as i said, if you are acting scary, you are acting scary. if you're acting crazy, you are acting crazy. if you are acting like a fool, you are acting like a fool. do not turn this into a booby is racially insensitive. you could of all been three blonde cousins and it wouldn't have changed my assessment.
and with that, i'm done. i am annoyed at a bunch of you. i'm thankful for some of you. and i shall return to posting about food and celebrities.
sfy - go forward with your poll. go on and show the whole board what i've known about you for years.
Just like I don't know you, you don't know me, but please tell me more about what you've known about me for years. I'm not going to do the poll, I never was. I don't play mean girl games, and I don't need anyone to back up anything I say and I don't have to wait until the board is in attack mode to say it. I just wanted you to think about how what you are saying is coming across. All this above *waving hands at the WOT* says you dgaf...because obviously you cannot say at this point that you don't know.

what I'm choosing to take from this wall of angst is that you're no longer going to share your thoughts on the "latest" fashions. I quoted you so you can't change your mind.

what? fucking revise that into something that makes sense and resubmit. or, just fuck off. that works too.
Let me be real clear for you then. At this point, you know that your microaggressions/aggressions are not being well-received. You may not care, but you know it. Now keep playing dumb as fuck if you want.
hey @booby if you don't know who @smo is, then why call her scary? you are not one to be intimidated by posters you don't know.
also, I'm curious what you've known about sfy for years. you sound like gypsy with that comment, btw. No offense!!
did you really not see the connection that all 3 of the posters you called scary "just happen to be black?" just tell me about how you "don't see color," amirite?
B/c of the warning koko gave her in that post, after booby quoted smo.
lol! Are you her official spokesperson or something? Is this a paid position?
sfy is, I'm pretty sure, actually Angela Bassett. She's kind and beautiful and the best and funniest MMer there is. She is even kind to Bliss when she comes around. I can't imagine thinking, over any stretch of time, that she's not the best.
I don't know SFY and this isn't a comment about her, but I can't help but laugh that you're touting someone's acceptance of Bliss as an endorsement, lol.
