There is a handy dandy pdf chart of micro aggressions that was posted on MMM that I think is enlightening for some. But clearly that message got lost long ago.

I CAN be sad when people fuck with someone they don't realize is inherently an actual threat.  I don't know that I honestly want to stick around on a board where this is going to be considered justified and perfectly normal.  Getting someone fired, threatening to pull nebulous strings of one kind or another -- that shit is not normal, and I don't give a great goddamn if someone thinks booby deserves it just for saying something controversial on a message board.  

God knows I've said my share of unpleasant things here, and while I fully accept the consequences of those things, I am not ready to say I deserve to be threatened offline for them.

To be clear, I have no idea if Kirkette ever said what Laz is referencing. But if she did say that, this seems to be inconsistent with her message of late.

The richest rich kid I know (heir in a family that has a building named for it at every college I've ever visited) lives pretty normally considering and a lot like kirkette describes - ie. upper middle class lifestyle, with a good dose of privilege. She is pretty much what kirkette talks about her family wanting (well educated, etc.). The real money is still with the older generation. You can be taken care of for life and still not bought a $5 million home.
They have big influence but are quiet about it because of scandals involving the patriarch in the 1980s. In fact, patriarch grandpa lived in Southern California. For all I know it's the same family.

Thank you for posting this. I was horrified by the sample language and was glad I wasn't an offender...until I got to some of the non-verbal microagressions. This was eye opening and I need to check myself on some of these.

I have always liked Kirkette very much, but I can't believe that people are ok with some of the things that have been said in this or the other thread. There have been a lot of threats and none of them have come from Booby.

I really appreciate the race discussions while fully admitting that I don't understand all the nuance. I think Kirkette was right in saying that some of us just can't fully get it having never experienced it. I will say I try much harder not to inadvertently say something hurtful to my friends. I think they know that I would never intend to say something stupid, but there have been so many things that I might not have thought of.

The problem with this is that the important messages are getting lost in the WTF factor of threats and others seeming support of those threats.

This brings us back to race, doesn't it? What you posted above that I bolded, that sentence specifically, is where the disconnect lies.

Because every mother of a black child has to teach her kid just that. She has to teach her kid that you never know when you will suddenly be unsafe and targeted for no reason by someone who can do you real harm. So watch it.

I'm not sure what you're asking. I assume some will agree with me and others won't. I wasn't suggesting a policy or anything (though I presume there is one already).
