Feb 26 is the deadline to change party for the Presidential Primary. My state is a lock for HRC. Should I switch to vote for the least sucky R or not bother? The republicans ousted beloved Representative Mike Castle (when he was running for Senate) and voted for the witch instead. Castle would have won that Senate seat handily and kept it until he retired or died.
I don't quite trust them to not vote for Trump. Not that Delaware carries much weight anyway.
Yeah, this still ticks me off. If you count all the really dumb GOP candidates that lost when "normal" mainstream ones would've won, it would be more than enough to keep the Senate this year even with some losses.
Mourdock, Angle, Buck, O'Donnell, Akin
Heck, if the GOP had gotten those seats, they could lose FL, WI, IL, NH, and either OH or NC this year and still break even.

I plan to vote for Hillary, even though my state's primary isn't until May.
I feel stupid for not knowing this, but why would voting for a lower vote-receiving R be a benefit if you would otherwise have voted for a D? I can't see how it's taking a vote away from Trump, etc. because I wouldn't have been voting for him anyway. Am I misunderstanding the tactic?

If you're a D and the candidate is already decided by the time your state votes, I assume the idea is that you can put your vote toward the R that scares you the least, or that you think your D candidate can beat more easily.
I just looked up my state primaries because it just occurred to me that I don't remember registering for a party when I did my voter registration last week. Turns out we're open primary BUT the GOP primary requires you to sign an oath saying that you are really a Republican, promise, no backsies.
Let's remember that not everyone in the US who has a vested interest in these elections can vote. Not only are there non-citizen US residents on this board, there are probably other disenfranchised posters here. If you assume there aren't any felons, you might want to check your privilege.

Uh, I'm pretty sure she was responding to the person who said she never votes in a primary.

Yup. Some how, I missed that and saw a few people saying that they couldn't instead of didn't. So the yelling seemed really off base.

Never done it, FTR.
This is what I do. I'm not registered with either party, although I usually vote Dem. CA's primary is very late and typically the D candidate is already determined by then.
Kansas has a caucus. I've never participated, but maybe this year? It's actually early enough to contribute but Kansas is so small it won't have a lot of weight.
We'll if I can get out of the house for the whole afternoon to do it.
And I support HRC. I can't bear to register as a Republican, but KS will go red in presidential elections without question for the foreseeable future.
Hilary. My H and I got into a fight (on date night!) because I asked who he'd vote for if it was Hilary v. Trump and he said Trump. For serious no lying. I got... upset.
He forgot what day voting was last year. If he forgets again this year I may not (probably will not) remind him.
I don't get to vote in the primary as an expat. Sad panda.
Wait. WHAT?
I *swear* I voted in the primaries since I've been here, and I *just* FPCAed and the primaries were an option for which I could register (and did).
I don't belong to a state. I've given up my state rights as I didn't want to pay PA taxes any longer. So as I'm not considered domiciled in the State, I can't vote there. I'm actually more okay with it than not.
Nobody if I don't remember to get my party affiliation changed. I've been registered Republican since moving to PA so I could vote in the primaries (was Independent before that). But no way am I voting for any of these clowns.

Look at all the overwhelming support for Hillary in this poll! If you like Hillary it's time to pony up. We need to do as the Berners do. Money is power in American elections and no one seems to rail against and simultaneously benefit from this fact more than Bernie. She is getting outspent and he has collected enough to be competitive for the long haul. If you don't like her, ignore this. If you already donate, ignore this. If you like her but haven't donated, consider donating. I just gave an additional $25 tonight. Bernie is winning this all on a constant stream of small dollar donations. There is no reason why Hillary cannot do the same. That's all.

And if he wins the nomination, he'll have access to the $18 million she raised for the DNC, even though he's an Independant/outsider. So, as far as I'm concerned it's obvious to me why he is outspending her at this point in time - he has nothing to lose and everything to gain.

The Democrats Abroad in Germany is holding primaries. They have a Global Primary www.democratsabroad.org/global_presidential_primary. You can probably do this in London. I'm going to give it a go on March 1st in Munich. However, I did just find out about this, so I'm not sure I have everything necessary. It's a pain that we need to register every election.

Totally agree. I set up a recurring monthly donation two weeks ago. They now send me almost daily emails asking for small amounts and since my info is already saved it is super easy to hit $5 and boom, donation done! I figure it's money I would spend on coffee if I didn't WFH - and also a good investment in our future.
