My daughter had a seizure, small update.

She was asleep, and went into a tonic-clonic seizure. It was her first one. Ambulance, ER, blood tests, MRI. All clear. She has a 10 am appt with her pedi, but the first peds neuro appt we could get was the 29th. 

I was terrified, and I am still scared shitless. She is very wobbly today - she described it as Bambi trying to walk. Please share your experiences, etc. 

eta: She is 8, no other health problems. 

Updated: She saw her pedi this morning, who said she looked great. About five minutes after leaving the pedi the neuro called and now have an appt for 1 pm, which is a huge relief. Thank you everyone for your kind words, it was very comforting to read. 

Updated again: EEG scheduled for May 9th, doctor thinks it's benign rolandic epilepsy, but the type of seizure she has doesn't fit that, so we wait til the EEG. In the meantime, she sleeps with me.

Oh no! My older daughter had a bunch of small seizures when she was a baby. It is so scary. Nobody could figure out why she had them and they stopped after 2 months; she's never had a recurrence. I hope the same is true for your DD.

I'm sorry. How scary! Did you just happen to be near her when it happened? I sometimes worry something like that will happen in the night & I'll have no idea anything happened.

My sister's friend had a Grand Mal seizure in the car on their way back from a birthday party when they were about your DD's age (if I remember correctly). It was super scary for all of the girls. She had all the testing done and didn't get any solid answers. To my knowledge, she never had another one...I am positive she didn't at least through middle school & almost certain not in HS, either. I don't believe she stayed on any seizure medication, either. I think sometimes people have a single incident with no explanation and then it never happens again.

I'm so sorry.  My 5.5 yo has epilepsy.  Seizures are very rarely life theatening.  As scary as they are.  The big thing is to remain calm and take note of duration and how it presents.  If she has another one, call the neuro and ask for an earlier appt.

did the hospital discuss seizure emergencies? Did they give you diastat or any other rescue med?

No, but I'm gonna talk to the pedi about it tomorrow.

She sleeps with me, because she hates sleeping alone. We were just beginning to put a plan into place to get her in her own bed and I'm so glad we weren't there yet.
