H and I are going to do a Portland/Seattle trip in July. The Portland part is all set. From Seattle, we have two options for flights home on Saturday, 10:10 am or 11:30 pm.
We'll have Wednesday evening, all day Thursday and all day Friday in Seattle. Is that enough time to see the downtown area and see the main attractions in the city? Would we benefit from having the extra 12ish hours and taking the red-eye home?
I definitely think if your goal is just to see the sights of downtown Seattle, you can do that between the two full days of Thursday and Friday easy. However, unless you have to work on Sunday I'd go with the red eye on Saturday night just to give you the extra time in case you want to do something else that might take a half day...like taking the ferry from downtown Seattle over to Bainbridge to have lunch and walk around. That's often a "to do" when you come to Seattle. I happen to live on Bainbridge so I always have to recommend that
Ditto what ilovebed said. Also there is always Snoqualmie Falls if you want to get out of the city. Also not all the tourist attractions are downtown so a little extra time would be good. I would take the 11:30pm. 12 extra hours of food = ALWAYS YES.
I always prefer a red eye, and there is a lot to do in the different parts of the city so I would say take the extra time so you don't feel rushed and can just enjoy. There are also a lot of cool places nearby the city if you guys have transportation.
In addition to minion, & ilovebed, suggestions people like Boeing field and the museum of flight down in the Tukwila area. There is a kangaroo farm in Arlington which is like a 40 minute drive north, but you can hold baby kangaroos!
