I'm sorry about the med interactions with bf. That really sucks.
I got it last year because I didn't know it was poison ivy and ended up on steroids. This year I got a few spots and have treated with caladryl only. But with the eyes, that is so much trickier. Mine was all over my arm and legs and I have scars from it because j got black sap poison ivy and itched it too much before learning it was poison ivy. Is it possible there is still oil in your eyes?
If you really want to continue nursing, double and triple check on whether or not you can breastfeed while on your medication. Many times, women are told they can't because a doctor/pharmacist doesn't know for sure and errs on the side of caution (totally understandable). Infant Risk is a great resource for looking up medication. If you're content with stopping now, I'm glad you were able to know when it was your last time, so you could soak up every second. (& it's OK to cry! Weaning alone is emotional, not to mention everything else this weekend!)
Have the steroids. I can't nurse with them and I have to take them for 10 days. I'm nursing Viv right now because this might be our last time. I might have cried.
I am so sorry. I've been dealing with a skin issue for weeks so I know how much it takes a toll on you. But to have this end your nursing is just heartbreaking. It should be up to you and/or her, not stupid medicine. Many hugs.
I was able to nurse on Prednisone, but check Lactimed (I use the app on my phone). I've found the doctors at urgent care to be wrong or overly cautious about bf/med safety.
I agree. I would call your OB and ask about the drug interaction and see what they saw. The doctors at urgent care will be extra cautious but the OB may not be.

You can go to http://www.infantrisk.com./ If you don't see the med on there, you can call them. Babies get steroids for different things, so I can't imagine needing to stop. Big hugs.
I agree that doctors/pharmacists tend to be overy cautious. My dentist told me I shouldn't nurse after numbing for a filling and it was fine. Can you pump and dump? I'm sorry this sucks so much. Was it just the shot or did you get pills? The last time I had poison ivy I had both and the pills were tapered. If that's the case you may be able to nurse before the end of the 10 days.

So I just messaged my girlfriend who's a pharmacist and she told me even at 60mg it should be out of my system after 5ish hours so I could nurse tonight!! I'm so happy I double checked. Thank you guys!!!

The steroids will help with the inflammation ASAP! You should still be able to have fun this weekend. I'm glad there's not a huge amount of pain. And nursing after 10 days might still be possible, if, in fact, the steroid isn't nursing-safe. Either hand express every day or so, but I'd bet anything Viv will go right back to nursing. Good luck, M!
